Solid form in Europe, looks like Zagreb at home will be the deciding factor on who goes through there.

It could go any way Zargreb beat Kyiv so they are on 5 with 2 games to go, Kobenhavn beat us (somehow) in Denmark so are level on 4 with us

I think they're a long way away from that yet but but it's good other clubs are improving their facilities to bring better talent through and not just us, it is my aim to manage them at some stage as long as I stay in club management too

The international break came at a great time for us as we had a few injuries that didn't help early in November but by the time they were done we had almost a fully fit squad and as you can see there was some brilliant results in there including going to the table toppers and APOEL and banging in 4 past each also the Kyiv result which all of a sudden put us in a great position to get out of our group after looking out of it after the trip to Denmark.

Looking at the league from the position we are in i've got to be aiming for top 4 at worst. Anorthosi have been a bit of a shock package at the top as I always expected Apollon to be the first side to challenge APOEL properly for the title with their few years extra in the CL and investments they've made in the squad but at this stage I think it's the closest we have been to the title contenders so it is showing signs of progress but as we've shown in the past once we get in to the split we have a bad habit of falling away quite quickly but with the results against the better sides this season i'm more optimistic about us being able to get more wins in that stage than usual

knockout.thumb.JPG.c3a10f86035f39b4b10864aac7367466.JPG

I think it's safe to say that the European adventure will end in 2 games time :D but after some real heartbreak trying to get in to Europe it's great we got this far and hopefully as the club continues to grow i'll be looking at games like this in years to come as something we could win, but for now I just hope we put in the effort and keep the score down.

My post has changed considerably from what I was going to right as I was full of optimism that we'd be 2nd at worst but now i'll take 4th :D  I'm starting to regret never training Gounaris as a striker but it gives an earlier than expected chance to Konstantinou

konstantinou.thumb.JPG.846d8a390b14252b66a169596cb6c7b5.JPG

The United defeat ended up being disappointing as we led for so long in the game and they turned it around in the last 10 minutes where they finally broke us down but in terms of the way we played over the 2 games i'm delighted with the players

I'd have been delighted if offered 2nd at the start of the season but after beating Anorthosi with 2 games to go we were top with a 3 point gap and with Agia Napa one of the games left who were suffering the same sort of form we usually had in the split and a better head to head against Anorthosi we really should be champions. I don't blame the players for it at all, we were missing a lot of players for those 2 games and we gave it our all, it's just being so close on our best chance to win it that leaves a bitter taste.

There won't be a big influx of first teamers coming in this year, we have kids who can come in and do a job now so it'll be more about who leaves than anything, in fact my only major signing could end up to be Lazaros Labrou from Panathinaikos who was confirmed early in January and at the time I planned to use him at CM but with the Konstantinou departure last February he may be shoehorned upfront for the time being in bigger games to take the pressure of his younger namesake though 8 in 13 for 16 year old was a fantastic start to his career.

Just one player of note from the academy and with more upgrades coming to the youth training over this summer this part of the plan is starting to come in to place after so long with nothing

I would have liked a few more in Spurs beat me to one target after I thought I was in the driving seat but they came in from nowhere and that was that :( Labrou is still a dilemma as I had planned for him to play CM but relying on a 17 year old striker is probably too much over the course of a season  but at least I have options with him and with me already knowing I had him coming it saved me looking for another striker.

I'll be looking for top 4 again hopefully top 3 to save a few games but I don't see Apollon and APOEL having seasons like last year again given their transfers in (and the APOEL against me which i'll put in the next report) so it will be tough, i've let a few go over the summer too as you can see because i'm putting faith in the youngsters as back ups and give them chances against the usual bottom sides.

cl.thumb.JPG.650225c15c691e2370077cb64ba4dec0.JPG

Only 1 target here, pick up 4/6 points from the Steaua and hope it's enough for 3rd, I think last seasons Europa run shows that is achievable but the other games are write offs as far as i'm concerned and without looking at the league fixtures around that time i'll probably concentrate on that and rotate in the 4 other CL games.

Very good season!Very close to stun ManU .. CL money will change your level...

Thanks, I think last season we benefited from Apollon and APOEL not being at the races all the time. The CL money is great for getting the training facilities up but transfer wise it isn't so import with this save as Cypriots and Greeks are cheap if you pick them up soon enough so I don't think you'll ever see me make a £3M+ signing unless it's an exceptional circumstances, though the divisions rep is pushing some prices up a bit

Solid start by us and i'm happy with the performances, we could be further if it wasn't for a few frustrating draws but it wasn't for lack of trying.  One thing that has been been a bit unexpected is the way the youngsters who were out on loan have settled in with their promotion to the first team squad when called upon

christodoulou.thumb.JPG.768eff1f4bc1fc280393682ad91977c7.JPGkonstantinou.thumb.JPG.fc8520dcb0f7b8c3217d8247b37c2388.JPGnikolaou.thumb.JPG.2f3b1eac630d89f080991a023969e848.JPGgeorgiou.thumb.JPG.f22b1e7a56f291681013000f30bd2d7b.JPG

Usually if i've rotated or been forced in to changes there's been a noticeable difference in results but this season these 4 have come in and done fantastically well which could save me a headache as Gounaris is attracting offers of around £10M now  and though i've said and maintain we don't really need money from transfers as it'll be hard to find Cypriots/Greeks for any kind of big money and with CL football we can continue upgrades and pay bigger wages to keep current players i've got to keep the save realistic as we haven't won a single trophy yet and players will want to leave from time to time for a bigger league so I will consider offers like that even if I don't want to lose them.

Our good form continued as we hold on to top spot, a lot of this I believe is down to morale as well, after a few were unhappy at the start of the season i've managed to get a lot of our big players to commit to new contracts over the last 2 months which I was starting to think would be something that wouldn't happen. We almost sneaked out of our CL group in 2nd place too,  we got ourselves 3-2 up with 3 minutes left against Napoli after trailing 2-0 but they stepped up and sucker punched us with 2 injury time goals but all in all I wasn't even giving us a hope of 3rd so I have to be happy that we even got ourselves in a position to be close in that group.

YR.thumb.JPG.c260ce3c9c684894eb53dace7d53c9dd.JPG

Another upgrade on the recruitment comes in handy, usually in saves this is the hardest for me to get but this time around it's the coaching that's taking a while to improve but at least we are getting somewhere

Cheers, I think it's going to take a while before I can think of winning more than the league with mostly Cypriots especially as I made a big mistake early in the save buying players for the here and now as Apollon, APOEL and Anorthosi were raiding the best 15-18 year olds from the likes of Aris, AEK Larnakas, Ancha ect; and they have some fantastic ones most of which would probably walk in to our first team now but at the time I was of the opinion that until we get the training facilities up i'd probably not get the full potential out of them so felt it was better to get ourselves in a position to break in to the European spots as I wasn't expecting the league to be as strong in terms of coefficients as it's become and be so comfortable as we have been financially even before we got in to Europe.

That said when I started out the save I wanted something difficult bordering on impossible because I knew I would have a lot of time to play this (another 2 weeks before the next check up at the hospital) and it's been nice to have a save where i'm making progress but yet to win anything even now (apart from the C Division but that seems an age ago) and i've surprised myself a little at the discipline i've had sticking to the rules I set myself :D I have a lot of respect for those that do youth only saves because even the limits i've set myself in this is tough enough :D

I agree. I'm not someone that has a lot of requirements in terms of players, but even I can't handle a youth only save. What if my CBs are short, what if fullbacks are slow and have low first touch, what if my DM has low bravery or teamwork etc.

3 defeats in the 2 months sees us drop to 2nd but we've won every other game so i'm happy as it hasn't been like we've had a mini blip or anything though it has allowed Anorthosi a chance to challenge too now so the remaining 9 games we are going to have to be on the top of our game to win it. The performances are mostly good but as you can see with the way APOEL are scoring compared to us it is going to be tough to keep the pace up.

Happy we're through in the Europa, Zenit for any club is a potential banana skin so I went in to the game knowing it could go either way and after a tight first leg I expected the worst but we demolished them in the 2nd leg to go through comfortably. Celtic are next and though Scottish football is poor atm you never know how good Celtic are until you've faced them so again it's a tricky one but if we play like we have been then we have a chance

It feels like we're turning in to the Bayer Leverkusen of Cyprus :D we led until the Anorthosi game  even with the increase in defeats but it put us a point behind them and they matched our final 2 results to win on the final day. The cup final after hammering APOEL days earlier just added the insult to injury to what was a disappointing end to the season, we should really have made the Europa semi too but yet another injury time goal knocked us out and with a tie against AEL in the semi i'd have backed us to have made the final :(

That said I feel happy about the season on the whole, the kids have come in and done superbly and I think with Parpas and Fotiou promoted to the first team next season to add to the squad we'll be close again. I don't think apart from the young keeper we've signed there'll be many brought in next year though with Apollon not making the CL there's 1 or 2 that I wouldn't mind taking from them if possible.

job.thumb.JPG.ccceb0da3436174fd589a0cf9805e368.JPG

Amazingly this is the first time i've been offered a job in this save, it was tempting as the facilities and finances are better than us but unless sacked this will be a one club save so they were politely turned down without an interview.

expansion.thumb.JPG.4587686e4ead2970ed4bc7e949077566.JPG

I nearly asked for a new stadium as i'm alone as a legend at the club but whenever this happens and I go for a new stadium it ends up being named the name of the club so i'm going to wait until i've won something a few times if that ever happens  :D

pleasing to get these done again, the youth ones should be getting close to top end but at senior level we have lots more to do.

Also a couple of great prospects for the future there.

Thanks mate, obviously we fell short again but we're getting closer each year and producing talents that like will hopefully get us there eventually

If this was in one hit i'd take it there and then but i'm going to reject   it's going to cause problems with him I know but the 50 games bit puts me off, plus if he's not playing he'll not get those 10 caps for ages so that'll be no good. I can replace him easily between Labrou and Butcher but that sort of offer makes me think I can squeeze more

The league ranking is really having an effect on prices now so unless we end up mega rich at some point it'll be Bosmans and youth only coming in to the club for the foreseeable future , I tried to snatch 2 players from Apollon and they were wanting £20M + for each. Don't get me wrong I understand the rise in the division bumps prices up considerably but we only had a £8M kitty otherwise i'd happily have paid it. In fact i'm going to give Butcher a few games this year with the intention of having him as my main striker next year with Antonis Kostatinou moving out wide and look to cash in on Gounaris, also i've promoted the 3 young CM's from the under 21's (i'll link below) and i'm going to let Labrou go at the end of the season too to enable me to have a completely Cypriot side. That doesn't mean I won't buy Greek again but i'm trying my best to avoid that now as having those 2 in the side isn't really making that much of a difference to us now but just leaves me the option if I spot any talent over the water to bring those through properly without breaking my 2 player limit rule.

Kissonergis is a strange one, in some places he looks really good for his age and in others he needs a lot of work doing so i'll give him a ear on a standard keeping regime and then spend 6 months at a time trying to balance him out with special focus on whichever attribute I feel is needed.

Panagiotou is our most expensive player ever, usually in this league that amount is a risk but you can tell by looking him once his mentals are improved he's going to be a class CB for us. I nearly didn't offer the loan back option but he'd get more games at Ermis and we have 4 that can play CB so it is best for him and us if he's the big fish in a small pond and getting those games.

Booker had a sight taste of first team action from February last year and did well but it's time to bring the next generation through and they'll play at least 10 of the 22 games each.

another unlucky end to your season but you are getting close.

Thanks, it's a little frustrating but you can see each year we are not that far away even though APOEL can go out and spend £15M+ on players we've still been above them for the ast 2 years though you would expect to be champions if you did that usually :D It doesn't concern me though as it is showing how good this division is now and having a few teams going for it makes it more exciting and I expect a lot more rewarding when/if we finally get a trophy

Results wise it's been our worse start for a few years but the performances are there and losing the keeper for 6 and a half games and throwing a 17 year old in to replace him hasn't helped with a few of the results :D It is a little disappointing as I did want us to be right up there this year but I think top 4 is probably the best we'll get with the inconsistency.

In international news Cyprus followed up their Euro 2020 qualification with a World cup one too, I was hoping they fail so I can apply for the job :D

The clubs have been great at getting out of groups which is the main reason for it as once the knockouts start it's the odd few that have filtered in to the quarters and semis, English and Spanish clubs are so dominant that it makes it easier to break through the rest. At this rate I don't see me winning a trophy before my 10th year :D we keep getting in good positions to win stuff and mess up at the final hurdle :D:(

A much better period there and things are starting to click in terms of results finally. Thinking about it we've come out flying in recent seasons and then struggled towards the end so the start might not end up being a bad thing as we're gaining the momentum at a brilliant time. Pleased to get through that CL group even though 8 points is hardly great but it was a tough group and teams were taking points off each other and thankfully we capiltalised on that. We have Arsenal next but tbh getting knocked out by them is worth more money to us than a few Europa games.

Hopefully we can carry on the recent form the kids have been superb when called upon which is very pleasing, I was always willing to sacrifice a title challenge for bedding them in this year so in that regard they've surpassed my expectations so far.

Congrats on qualification. Very good win over Dortmund to help get there!!

Thanks, I didn't expect 3rd even after our start but luckily Napoli were pretty poor and that win was the key

Thanks, with the fees rising this year we're going to need them to bring in any established domestic players :D

We've kept our good form going and have managed to sneak in to top spot, i've been here so many times before only to see it go wrong that it's hard to get too excited it but what I will say is for a transitional season we're doing very well at this stage to be anywhere near the top especially given our start.

The win against Arsenal came as a shock, not so much that we beat them as we've shown over the past 2 years we can give any a game at home in Europe but the scoreline was beyond my wildest dreams though i'm remaining cautious with Arsenal obviously a much better side than us so they are more than capable of overturning the deficit but we've given ourselves a great chance.

EDIT: No sooner had I finished typing and went forward a day this happened

That really is a big blow, we could get away with it in the normal part of the league season but in the split and with Europe this is a big problem as Kissonergis still needs a lot of work on parts of his game, but it is what it is and hopefully a second extended run will do him some good

Despite it being a case of the same old i'm not too disappointed about it this year, we did well to catch up after the bad start and considering the kids got a lot more chances including a 17 year old keeper being forced to play 20+ games than I had planned we've had a really good season imo. Goals scored and against are the best we've managed in the division to date though we are a point down on last year but there is certainly signs of progress.

The CL loss to United was disappointing, without our first choice keeper played a part in the 1st leg imo and we'd raced in to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd but were down to 9 before half time, if we'd have had the full 11 I am convinced we could have at least forced extra time but it was a good learning curve for us and will certainly help our rep doing as well as we did in the tournament.

Good to get all these upgrades again I am especially pleased the board only extended the stadium rather than get a new one as i'm determined to have my name on one after years and years without :D

Not a lot happened this summer as I just narrowed down the squad a little in midfield as I was packed in there with the youngsters coming in last year so out went Spoljaric and Artymas was allowed to leave on a Bosman because even though he could cover CB which was the reason for keeping him an extra year as I allowed Dimitris Panagiotou to stay at his club for a year summer but he's done so well that he'll be the spare CB for us now. Typically with Gounaris when I didn't want to sell him last year I was getting offers of £15M+ but after offering him out for that the best I could get was £5.5M + 50% of next sale so I took it. I was going to let Labrou go as I had offers touching £20M but his versatility stopped me in the end but this will be his last year.

Thanks, last season didn't bother me too much in fairness I made a lot of changes during the season to allow the kids game time so to get that close with them playing so many games was brilliant in my eyes. All of them bar Parpas and Kissonergis could easily be starters now so it's going to be interesting to see how they do this year.

Pretty crap for a 3rd seed but we've played United a few times and the games have been close apart from where Kissonergis started at OT, we've beaten Celtic too so realistically i'm looking for 3rd this year

This is the sort of thing i'm facing with APOEL makes being so close to them even more impressive, they've also signed Bernardo Silva and Granit Xhaka on top of a few other £10-15M regens from South America :D

Holy shirtballs :eek:  This is mental to even be competing with

Hard to get carried away but a good start all the same and we've shown APOEL aren't invincible which is pleasing. The biggest problem I have at the moment is keeping everyone happy as i've a bunch of players not happy playing 1 missing 1 but i'm trying to keep it fair :D The CL has gone as expected in terms of our results though I wasn't pleased with the performance at United but Celtic beat Barca in their first game which has opened the group up thankfully.
