rancer890
Well, none of the vacant jobs were promising, other than the NEC (Holland) vacancy, which I rejected when they approached me, because of high wages, and I didn't want to get another team from debt into the black. I have some very good signings, which I will unveil after the August update.
Spleen!
Well done on promotion rancer. Survival in the Championship will be tough, but if you have actually made some very good signings you'll be fine
rancer890
Gillingham Pre-season - July 2013 13th: at Bury - D 2-2 15th: at Dag & Red - W 3-1 20th: at Port Talbot - W 2-0 26th: vs Sunderland - W 3-2 August 2013 10th: at Charlton - Championship - L 2-4 - Jeremy Helan, Renzo Gallo First game in the Championship for The Gills since 2004/2005. This game was a reality check. 14th: vs Colchester - League Cup 1st Round - W 1-0 - Renzo Gallo Well, the goal was on a penalty, but a win is a win. At least we'll win at least once this month... 17th: vs Leeds - Championship - L 0-2 An even game according to the match statistics, but Leeds scored on both of their shots. 24th: at Plymouth - Championship - L 0-1 We were very close to securing our first point in the Championship in 8 years. But we got 0 from a late penalty. 28th: at Stoke - League Cup 2nd Round - L 0-1 The only goal was from Mido in extra time (45 + 2). We had some chances late, but Stoke secured the win and advanced. 31st: vs Bristol City - Championship - W 1-0 - Renzo Gallo Yes. First win and points in 8 years. Standings Transfers Piers Ramsay - Free (former club: Man Utd) Renzo Gallo - Loan fee $450k; Future fee $1.5 mil Joe Hart - Free (former club: Man City) Chris Johnson - Free (former club: Man City) Jacek Wojciechowski - Free (former club: Osnabruck) Jules N'Sumbu - Free (former club: Chelsea) Glen Smith - Loan Troy Matthews - Loan Andy Mullin - Loan fee $975k; future fee $1.8 mil TRANSFERS I sold Adam Bogdan because of my new goalkeeper acquisition, and I had no room for Joe Jacobson. I tried getting Luke Freeman back, but he rejected the loan.
rancer890
Gillingham September 2013 14th: at Swansea - Championship - L 1-2 - Marcel Marcel finally scores, but in a losing cause. 17th: vs Wolves - Championship - D 1-1 - Renzo Gallo Wolves took an early lead, but Gallo's goal in the 54th minute drew us level, and both teams took one point. 21st: at Barnsley - Championship - D 2-2 - Renzo Gallo (2) Barnsley went ahead 2-0 after 32 minutes and into halftime. However, after some tactical adjustments, Gallo scored 2 goals for a draw. 28th: at MK Dons - Championship - D 1-1 - Marcel Minimal chances for both sides, and a draw was the likeliest result. Standings 4 of the 5 games in October are home games. Next month will be very important. We have to win some league games to stay above relegation. rancer890
Senegal 2014 World Cup Qualifying (Africa) 3rd Round Group 5 Senegal, Congo, Angola, Guinea Game 1: Congo 3-2 Senegal We just didn't deserve to win. Game 2: Guinea 2-2 Senegal We were up 2-0, and we gave it all back. We've dug ourselves a deep hole to get out of. Game 3: Senegal 4-1 Angola We need wins, and we need a little luck. Game 4: Senegal 3-0 Guinea Another must-win and win we did. Game 5: Angola 2-4 Senegal We're now winning again. And creeping up the Rankings again. --- Game 6, the final game of the 3rd Round Group Stages, is against leaders Congo. They are 3 points ahead, with a greater G.D. of 2. I just need to win the last game by 2 and we qualify. That's it. 2 goals. --- Game 6: We screwed up again 'Nuff said. We lost one too many games. Again. --- World Cup Qualifying (Africa) Third Round - Group 5 It was a disappointment. We lost games. We lost players due to injury. I'm not using it as an excuse though. That's why football is played on the pitch and not on paper. I'm not going to resign though, unless I get sacked of course.
Welsh Wizard
Unlucky with Senegal but as everyone knows your only better if you win and matches are not won before they begin or on rep if they were it would be boring to watch:D A tough start but the gap in class between the Championship and lower division such as Div 1 and Div 2 is big as people find out in dafuge's challenge. Some good transfers you have manage to get in I think you will avoid relegation but it may be hard if results stay the same as moral will be low. You are experienced enough to turn things around im sure. Ill look out for the next update so good luck. Thanks. I have experience yes, but haven't played in the Championship in over a year. The teams are usually bunched up in the standings, even in mid-season during my first year with The Gills. There are some weaknesses in my team, and I'll deal with it, but it's all about survival. Marcel starting to score as well. 26th: at Birmingham - Championship - L 1-3 - Fabio Borini We really didn't have a high chance of getting points, but we did compete. 29th: vs Southend - Championship - W 3-2 - Renzo Gallo (2), Fabio Borini Another nice win as Borini scores the game winner in the 60th minute. Standings Month ahead: 2nd: at Burnley 9th: vs Portsmouth 23rd: at Nottingham Forest 26th: vs West Brom 30th: at Sheffield Wednesday A tough month. We didn't have much possession (43%) but made the most of it. 21st: at Blackpool - Championship - W 2-0 - Andy Mullin, Renzo Gallo Another fantastic result, against a team that was in the Premiership last year. Johan Roest got injured though. 26th: vs Charlton - Championship - W 1-0 - Renzo Gallo We win a tight affair with the club that rudely introduced us into the Championship. 28th: at Leeds - Championship - L 0-2 We lose to Leeds again, and could not score against the goalkeeper that I sold in the summer. rancer890
Nice first half the season. Will any signings be coming in? Could there be a late surge and you make the play-off? anything could happen. Signings? - Probably nothing more than a loan. I'm basically done spending. I'll probably offload more than signing players. I can still loan one more English player till the end of the season, and I'll do my very best to get another player on loan to strengthen my depth. Playoffs? - I'll be happy to survive. Not thinking about playoffs this year, but I won't rule anything out with the squad I have.

rancer890
Gillingham January 2014 1st: vs Ipswich - Championship - W 3-0 - Marcel (2), Paul Rodgers A good home win. Gallo got injured though, although it was nothing serious. 4th: vs Tranmere - FA Cup 3rd Round - W 3-0 - Fabio Borini (2), Johan Svensson We didn't have much possession, but it's quality of the opportunities that count. 11th: vs Plymouth - Championship - W 4-1 - Johan Svensson, Fabio Borini (2), Marcel Solid game and win as it was a total team effort. 18th: at Bristol City - Championship - W 2-1 - Marcel, Johan Roest Roest scored the game winner in the 61st minute. Gallo got injured, but he'll be ready for the next match, although on the bench to start. 28th: vs Swansea - Championship - L 2-3 - Marcel, Renzo Gallo The winning streak comes to an end. Standings Only one transfer coming in, on loan, from new parent club Arsenal, Robin Allen, who has the potential to be a leading EPL defender. Leaving the club include Luke Ayling (Dunfermline, $14k), Jonathan Kirby (MK Dons, $600k over 24 months), Ryan Conroy (Cardiff, $130k), and Johnny Managhan - YP2 (Stockport, $0k and a $20k buy back clause. I couldn't recall him from loan somehow, so I just sold him with the intention of buying him back). I have also been offered the managerial post at SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. However, I rejected the offer.
rancer890
Gillingham February 2014 1st: at Wolves - Championship - W 3-2 - Marcel (2), Renzo Gallo Fantastic away win. We're creeping closer to a playoff, something beyond my wildest dreams entering the season. 5th: at Doncaster - FA Cup 4th Round - L 2-3 - Marcel, Fabio Borini A disappointing result against a League 1 side at the lower end of the table. 8th: at Leicester - Championship - L 0-1 We lost because of a goal in the 92nd minute. Leicester were the better team this day though. 12th: vs Barnsley - Championship - D 1-1 - Sean O'Hanlon OG A bit thankful for the point, as the own goal was in the 88th minute. Shots were 15 to 2 in favour of us though, but that's football. 15th: vs MK Dons - Championship - W 1-0 - Andy Mullin Only goal was from a penalty. We had our shots, but few were quality. 22nd: at Southampton - Championship - W 2-0 - Renzo Gallo, Johan Roest A solid win against a struggling squad. Standings Transfers: I have signed Andy Mullin, who was on loan at my club for a whooping $975k, for an extra $1.8 million. I'm now trying to sign Renzo Gallo for the agreed sum of $1.5 million, but he's not accepting my contract...

rancer890
Your team seems to have found there feet in the Championship now and your aim to survive looks to have been achieved so lets hope you can keep the momentum from the end of February and make a push for the play-offs! Thanks. I know playoffs is probably pushing it, but we'll see what happens. And next year, I definitely want to make the playoffs. Of course, I'm not ruling out any potential job opportunities...I would want to stay with the team if I can somehow get Gallo signed. Of my three strikers, only one (Borini) is signed. Marcel's wages are too high for my liking, so I might just sell him for more funds. Joe Hart might be gone too. I have a contract offer to Costa Rican international Keylor Navas, who wants a much lower wage, and I can get over $2 million for Hart. I need to balance my finances a bit and avoid overspending. rancer890
Forgot to post this. African Cup of Nations 2014 Group: Senegal, Congo, Liberia, Ivory Coast Game 1: Congo 0-1 Senegal Game 2: Senegal 2-1 Ivory Coast Game 3: Liberia 1-1 Senegal Group Stages We squeak by the Group Stages. We should have won all the games. I'm losing confidence in my squad, which is never a good thing...Quarterfinal draw, and we're against Cameroon. Quarter-final: Cameroon 2-1 Senegal I'm really running out of options here. I think my time as Senegal manager is nearly over. The FA are disappointed at my performance, and my job is 'very insecure'.

We were down 2-0 at halftime, but I rallied the troops to get a point. 22nd: at West Brom - Championship - D 1-1 - Fabio Borini Supersub Borini saved the day again! 29th: vs Sheffield Wednesday - Championship - L 1-2 - Marcel Our playoffs hopes suffer a (minor) setback with this loss. WH
I think the playoff would be too soon for you. A promotion would see another big jump in the quality of the opposition which would be hard to compete with for a team that does not stand out in the Championship. Promotion would be great but another season to build your team up would give you a better chance of surviving in the premier League.
rancer890
Thanks for the comments. I need to finish as high as possible to persuade Renzo Gallo to sign. rancer890
Gillingham April 2014 5th: vs Nottingham Forest - Championship - L 0-1 A late goal in the 86th minute costs us one valuable point. 12th: at Coventry - Championship - L 3-4 - Renzo Gallo (2), Marino Rikharosson I rallied from 4-1, but the deficit was too much. Our playoff chances are already very bleak at this point. 19th: vs Huddersfield - Championship - L 0-1 The finishing blow. We cannot make the playoffs. 21st: at Hull - Championship - W 1-0 - Hayden Mullins OG With nothing to prove, I decide to play my backup GK, and we win on a lucky OG. 26th: vs Blackpool - Championship - W 3-0 - Renzo Gallo (2), James Dunne We surprisingly dominate against playoff bound Blackpool... May 2014 4th: at Ipswich - Championship - W 4-3 - Renzo Gallo (2), Marcel (2) A fantastic match. When one team scored, the other simply had an answer...until the 93rd minute goal by Marcel, with no time remaining for Ipswich to attack, we win. Standings Oh what could have been...if I played my backup goalkeeper, who won the final 3 games... Now my priority is to get Renzo Gallo and Sebastian Advic signed for next year and beyond. Full season update coming after the playoffs finish.

rancer890
My off-season plan with The Gills: sell Joe Hart. I have Costa Rican international GK Keylor Navas signed to replace him. rancer890
Gillingham Preseason: July 12th: vs QPR - W 1-0 - Fabio Borini July 21st: vs Le Mans - W 3-1 - Fabio Borini (2), Johan Svensson July 23rd: at Canvey Island - W 5-0 - James Dunne, Johan Roest, Luke Freeman, Sebastian Avdic, Daniel Wilson July 30th: vs Arsenal - L 0-3 August 3rd: at Carshalton - W 3-0 - Johan Roest, Luke Freeman, Johan Svensson August 2014 9th: at Southend - Championship - L 0-2 Not the best start, but it's one game, and nothing to lose any sleep over. 12th: at Watford - League Cup 1st Round - W 1-0 - Fabio Borini First win of 2014-2015 against League One side Watford. 16th: vs Crystal Palace - Championship - D 1-1 - Johan Svensson We get our first point of the season from a late goal. 23rd: at Nottingham Forest - Championship - W 2-0 - Luke Freeman (2) Two early goals by Freeman lifts the Gills past Nottm Forest (I think supporters might try and burn my house down if I said Notts Forest ) 27th: at Plymouth - League Cup 2nd Round - L 1-2 - Jacob Mellis A strong effort, but Plymouth took control in the latter half with 2 unanswered goals. 30th: vs Ipswich - Championship - W 5-1 - Marcel (3), Luke Freeman (2) 4 goals in 17 minutes and we cruised the rest of the way. Standings Transfers: Ray Avery - on loan from Chelsea. A depth signing. Daniel Wilson - depth at left mid, a Canadian signed from Swindon Jacob Mellis - can also play centre mid. Has good EPL potential. Johnny Monaghan YP2 - resigned him after letting him go on a free. He'll play actual games. Lee Taylor - depth at right back Luke Freeman - he finally returns. Softens the blow for losing Gallo, although whether I would want long term is to be seen. I'm also close to signing another good young striker. He's not Renzo Gallo quality, but he's solid. Leaving the club include former Arsenal and Pompey defender Len Sowah, last year's number 1 GK Joe Hart (to create transfer funds), Anthony Grant (surplus of centre/defensive mids), and James Dunne (high wages and wanted to give playing time to other players). rancer890
Gillingham September 2014 13th: at Middlesbrough - Championship - D 2-2 - Andreas Wojtanowicz, Marcel Fantastic result considering we were down 2-0 after halftime and playing with 10 men in the final third of the match. 16th: vs Plymouth - Championship - L 0-1 We didn't have many chances, and we were caught off guard by a 2nd minute goal. 20th: vs QPR - Championship - W 1-0 - Andreas Wojtanowicz A 27th minute goal by our new Polish striker is enough for the win. 27th: at Sheffield United - Championship - W 2-0 - Lasse Hansen, Marcel First goal for my new LM (more details at the end of this post) in the 1st minute and by Marcel in the 78th gives us another 3 points. 30th: at Huddersfield - Championship - L 1-3 - Johan Roest There were chances for both teams, but Huddersfield just scored more. Standings Transfers: On transfer deadline day, EPL club Blackpool make a surprising bid of $3.7 million for Johan Svensson, which is quickly accepted by my chairman and left the club. While still in shock, I quickly look over my scouting reports from Sweden to find a replacement, which I did in Danish international Lasse Hansen from IFK Goteborg for $2 million. We got a garbage goal in the 90th minute. 13th: vs Wolves - D 2-2 - Championship - Andreas Wojtanowicz, Jacob Mellis We salvage a point despite another poor performance. 20th: vs Southend - W 2-0 - Championship - Luke Freeman, Tommy Elphick OG We finally get a win this month. 27th: at Crystal Palace - D 2-2 - Championship - Luke Freeman, Marcel Another draw. rancer890
Thank you. Looking good. Promotion I'm not sure if I would want promotion. My team is still regional rep, and if I get to the Premier League, I'll probably go straight back down, which I don't want at all costs, since I have several relegation release clauses... But we'll see. I'll try my best for promotion.

Its very much a lose lose situation but also win win. Whatever you look at it.
rancer890
Gillingham January 2015 3rd: at Ipswich - FA Cup 3rd Round - L 0-1 Dull game, but Ipswich scored on the few scoring chances for both teams. 10th: vs Nottingham Forest - Championship - W 2-1 - Michael Morrison OG, Luke Freeman Two of the three goals in this match were own goals, but we take the win. 17th: vs Middlesbrough - Championship - W 4-3 We never led in this game. I went out all-attack in the 80th minute and got 3 goals. The screenie says it all. 27th: at Plymouth - Championship - W 2-1 - Luke Freeman, Marcel Another change of tactics late in the game gives us another win by Marcel's 89th minute tally. 31st: vs Huddersfield - Championship - D 1-1 - Fabio Borini We salvage a point despite dominating for most of the match. Standings Transfers: IN: Nico Gordon - free, Pape Cissokho - $5k OUT: Barry Gough - Ipswich ($300k), Reinhard Breinberg - Bradford ($100k) I accomplished what I wanted in the transfer window: get Cissokho who I've been capping every game for the past two years, and lowering my wages (cut around $400k). Its very much a lose lose situation but also win win.Whatever you look at it. In previous games when I reached the EPL, I usually bolt for another country, usually Holland. I'm trying hard to stay this time, but can't help looking at that Feyenoord job...and the Man Utd job (I know I won't get that job if Bruce gets sacked), in a surprising 11th in the Premier League. MeLikeFM
Move to TFC. Loved playing as them in FM, I was much better than Cummins even without De Ro. I think it would be unfair on yourself and the Gills for you to leave upon promotion. At least be a man and face at least half a season of a prem relagation battle. Then Jump ship. Any ambitions to becoming Canada boss ?
