Ah! Unlucky in the playoffs :( To stay or to go now...that's the question.

I'll probably go. But I'll want to sign Luke Freeman on a permanent deal for them before I leave. I actually declared interest in the Ajax job, and their chairman was considering me, so I think I'll be able to get a top 4 club in France, Germany, or Holland if there are any vacancies.

EDIT: I'm going to leave. You will understand in my end of season update.

Unlucky in the play-offs.

Ajax is a good job. I guess we will find out who you are manager of soon :)

Feyenoord are interested too. PSV were somewhat interested couple years ago.

With my continental rep, I'll find a job I like. There's no way I'm staying in England though. I hate work permits. Prevents me from signing Canadians. :p

The Most Interesting Summer.

July 1: I resign from Gillingham with immediate effect.

July 1: Ajax sack their manager.

July 1: NEC sack their manager.

July 3: I resign from Senegal.

July 3: I sign with Greece.

July 4: Ajax job unsuccessful. :(

July 5: Applied for Celtic and AS Saint-Etienne.

July 6: AS Saint-Etienne job unsuccessful.

July 6: Celtic job offered, and delayed for one week.

July 12: Celtic job accepted. :)

Transfer Budget: $31 million

Wage Budget: $68 million/year

My contract is 3 year/$4.5 million, so $1.5 million per year.

Well done on the two new jobs rancer. So, we can expect some trophies coming your way now then? :D You've got a hefty budget too, any idea who you'll be bringing in? Any ex-Gills players

Yes. Trophies will be coming, along with my second taste of European football. :D (remember Distillery was my first ;))

I'm trying to sign former Gills player Renzo Gallo again. :p

I have already stolen (with a bit of bribery), my Ass Man Sandy Stewart, a GK coach, a coach with Senegal, all with The Gills who left with me, and my English, Norwegian, and Swedish scouts at Gillingham.

Right now I'm trying to trim my wages and get rid of players who I don't need. (like transfer listing some for $0)

The Gills are in the process of a board takeover so I think there's probably a transfer embargo atm.

July 20: vs Fulham - W 2-0

July 22: at Tokyo Metro Feliz - W 2-0

July 25: vs Juventus - L 0-2

July 29: at Getafe - L 1-2

July 2016

27th: vs APOEL - Champions League Champions Qualifying 2nd Round Leg 1 - W 3-0 - Lee Cattermole, Stuart McGwire (2)

Solid win in my first competitive match.

August 2016

3rd: at APOEL - Champions League Champions Qualifying 2nd Round Leg 2 - D 0-0

Not the best result, but we move on.

6th: vs St. Mirren - Premier League - W 2-1 - Mark Wilson, Tomislav Pavlov

Close game, but I get my first SPL win.

10th: vs Bohemians - Champions League Champions Qualifying 3rd Round Leg 1 - W 1-0 - Lee Cattermole

Cattermole scored in the 82nd minute, but I'll take the wins for now...

14th: at Hibernian - Premier League - L 0-1

First SPL loss...on a 90th minute goal.

20th: vs Dundee United - Premier League - W 1-0 - Lee Cattermole

We only win by one, but it's 3 points.

24th: at Bohemians - Champions League Champions Qualifying 3rd round Leg 2 - D 1-1 - Lee Cattermole

Cattermole scores in the 91st minute, to avoid E/T and help Celtic advance to the Group Stages. It was a subpar performance.

28th: at Aberdeen - Premier League - L 0-1

Bad game, and we were down to 10 for 2/3 of the match.

OUT:

Kevin Cawley - surplus of requirements

Paul Caddis - don't need a $2.1 million backup

Blake Ellison (regen AMR) - not in my plans

David Ball - I won't play him and making over $500k, $0 + 50% of next sale clause to Pompey.

Gordon Thomas - loaned out with future agreed fee

Steven Law - see above

Tomislav Pavlov - surplus of requirements

Andrew Turner - not needed, and had to get some funds back from my old team :p

Daniel Philliskirk - when in doubt, sell to Man City

Petar Skuletic - don't need a third striker making over a million per year

I still need to find a good striker. They're all only average, and Scott McDonald is getting old...

MeLikeFM: You're welcome mate. Bohemians were pretty tough. If they won, they would have went to the Group Stages! Good thing that didn't happen. :p

Welsh Wizard: I'm trying my best to leave UK. I definitely won't manage an Irish or Welsh club team though. :D

I don't need a decent ST. I need someone better than my current group. I could have signed a Brazilian striker for $9 million but he signed for Stuttgart. :(

And forgot this:

Champions League Group Stage (we are 4th seed)

Group A: Dortmund, Zurich, Man Utd, Dinamo Kiev

Group B: Besiktas, Lyon, Salzburg, Juventus

Group C: Standard, Porto, Celtic, Barcelona

Group D: sc Heerenveen, Arsenal, Olympiakos, Valencia

Group E: Spartak Moscow, Marseille, Hoffenheim, Liverpool

Celtic

September 2016

10th: at Falkirk - Premier League - L 0-3

An embarrassment. We got totally outplayed.

13th: at Porto - Champions League - W 2-1 - Stuart McGwire, Manfred Maier

I'm very pleased with the win, thanks to a bit of luck (Porto had a player red carded in the 39th minute)

17th: vs Kilmarnock - Premier League - W 2-1 - Stuart McGwire, Michael Hughes

A nice come from behind win by the squad.

21st: vs Dunfermline - Scottish Cup 3rd Round - W 4-2 - Scott McDonald, Alex, Stuart McGwire (2)

Another good win in the Scottish Cup. Next? We're travelling to Ibrox for the QF. :)

24th: at Motherwell - Premier League - D 1-1 - Scott McDonald

We were down 2 men by the end of this match, so I'm relieved with the draw. I'm surprised that we scored our first away league goal and got our first away league points of the season.

28th: vs Barcelona - Champions League - L 0-2

I expected a loss so no complaints here.

2nd: at Dundee United - Premier League - W 2-1 - Nathan Delfouneso (2)

We finally get an away league win.

15th: vs Hearts - Premier League - W 3-1 - Manfred Maier, Stuart McGwire (2)

We dominated most of this game, and limited Hearts to 2 shots.

19th: at Standard - Champions League - L 2-4 - Stuart McGwire, Manfred Maier

Shocking result. We were down 3-0 after 25 minutes and 4-1 at halftime. We should have done better.

23rd: vs Rangers - Premier League - W 5-1

My first derby match as Celtic manager went very well. :)

26th: at Rangers - League Cup Quarter-Final - D 2-2 (lost 4-5 on penalties)

We lost on penalties, but the board didn't lose much sleep over this game.

29th:at Airdire United - Premier League - D 0-0

It was an even game. Both teams were down to 10 men in the latter part of the game. I injured 3 of their players, all gone for 2-3 weeks. :p

We win the home leg against Standard. One step closer to going to a knockout round, whether Europa League or Champions League.

We score 3 unanswered goals to for another league win.

12th: vs Hibernian - Premier League - W 3-1 - Felix Oduro, Nathan Delfouneso, Scott McDonald

Tied 1-1 past the 80th minute, I change to a more attacking tactic, and score 2 goals in 3 minutes to win.

19th: at Dundee United - Premier League - W 4-1 - Nathan Delfouneso (2), Lorenzo Testa, Alex

This time we score 4 unanswered goals against relegation threatened Dundee United.

23rd: vs Porto - Champions League - W 1-0 - Scott McDonald

We hang on for the win after scoring in the 34th minute, and resisting pressure from Porto in the latter half of the game.

Finally picked up your league form, good job as i think sitting behind Rangers wouldn't of gone down too well with the Celtic board ;) What a great result against the Gers and Delfouneso looks like he's performing well! How many goals has he got now?

Also, rated your thread.

Delfouneso has 8 goals in 24 games (although he has 8 goals in 14 league games, which means ZERO goals in European play). I fancy Stuart McGwire a bit more. He's only 21, and the $350k signing from St. Mirren a couple years back has 14 goals in 25 games (SPL and Europe)

I'll love it if the Gers to finish outside the top 2. :D

I got the next Ronaldo coming in June (he's not 18 by next transfer window) from a Brazilian club and a young GK. Leaving will be some players who are on high wages and I'm not playing much.

We face AC Milan in the 1st Knockout Round. :)

Celtic

December 2016

3rd: Aberdeen - Premier League - W 4-0 - Scott McDonald, Nathan Delfouneso, Dion Smyth, Lorenzo Testa

A good win even though Aberdeen had more possession. We just had more scoring opportunities.

6th: at Barcelona - Champions League - L 0-2

Expected result, although once again we hung tough till goals in the 62nd and 69th minutes.

10th: vs Falkirk - Premier League - W 2-1 - Alex, Stuart McGwire

A win against Falkirk moves us within 1 point of the league leaders.

18th: at Kilmarnock - Premier League - W 1-0 - Danny Swanson

It wasn't a pretty game, but a win is a win.

26th: vs Motherwell - Premier League - W 3-1 - Javier, Nathan Delfouneso, Stuart McGwire

Another solid to expand our league lead.

January transfers: still want a leading SPL quality striker. Maybe also a depth ML and DL.

Well done in euro. It will be hard to get past AC.

League is looking good and it would be funny if the Gers finished out the top 2. :D

I voted when I first read it 5*

Actually Celtic finished 8th a couple seasons back.

And then promptly won the league last season. :D

Oh dear...looks like you'll have to start your rebuilding now! ;) I had to do it 3 times in 4 years! There's a thread currently in GD which is discussing the same thing about players wanting to leave. Another reason why I knocked FM09 on the head and reverted back to FM08.

Hope you manage to keep most of your players and get some decent replacements in.

I don't mind the rebuilding. I always do a lot of building in the first couple transfer windows no matter which team I play as. I know I'm the feeder club to the bigger teams, but I'm also the parent club to Swedish and Norwegian teams. It can only help with the Scandinavian domination of Scotland. :D

I rebuild my team every transfer window. :D

Celtic

January 2017

4th: at Hearts - Premier League - W 1-0 - Stuart McGwire

A good win but McGwire is out for a couple months.

7th: vs East Fife - Scottish Cup 4th Round - W 5-0 - Danny Swanson, Scott McDonald (2), Nathan Delfouneso, Michael Hughes

Good way to pad stats.

11th: vs Dundee United - Premier League - W 4-0 - Lorenzo Testa, Nathan Delfouneso, Michael Hughes

Nice win against better opposition than my previous game.

14th: at Rangers - Premier League - D 0-0

At least we didn't lose the Derby match at Ibrox.

21st: vs Airdrie United - Premier League - D 0-0

We should have won (Airdrie didn't even get a shot on goal...) but that's football sometimes.

29th: at Hibernian - Premier League - W 3-1 - Scott McDonald, Lorenzo Testa, Nathan Delfouneso

Solid win against Hibs, using mostly the lineup I'll be using the rest of the season.

Standings

Transfers

IN:

- Kevin Lee - the future No. 1 GK for Celtic (if he doesn't get sold of course)

- Ghassan Halabi - yes I see his low natural fitness too. But I think he's still very talented, and maybe some of my unhappy players to want more playing time will get a bit more.

- Marcus Salminen - another Swedish import. I'm very high on this kid.

- Jamie Adams - I've had him with TFC, Plymouth, and PSV during my FM08 career game. Yes, from 2008 to 2018, wherever I went, he went. Good memories.

OUT:

- Mike Wells - making way too much and I have no use for him.

- Kyel Reid - surplus of requirements

- Michael Zullo - wanted to leave the club. I'm paying him $175k/yr till June 2019.

- Alex - offer too good to turn down. We won't face him in the 1st Knockout Round though. (since he played for us! :))

- Lewis Bryson - fringe player

- Dion Smyth - wanted to leave, so he's gone

- Dean Whitehead - useless, so I just gave him just over $1 million and granted his unconditional release

Looking towards the future, I have a young Brazilian striker, touted as the next Ronaldo. His future looks bright. :)

Celtic

February 2017

5th: vs Hearts - Scottish Cup 5th Round - W 2-0 - Scott McDonald, Ghassan Halabi

Solid cup win as Halabi scores his first goal at Celtic.

11th: vs St. Mirren - Premier League - W 3-1 - Nathan Delfouneso, Scott McDonald, Danny Swanson

We controlled most of the game and got the win.

15th: vs Dundee - Premier League - W 2-0 - Nathan Delfouneso, Lee Cattermole

It was a close match, despite our domination with our possession, but we eventually scored a couple goals to seal another 3 points.

18th: at Aberdeen - Premier League - L 0-1

Our league unbeaten streak is over at 21 games.

21st: vs AC Milan - Champions League 1st Knockout Round 1st leg - L 0-4

I didn't expect us to get destroyed...two goals by Kaka and Miguel Veloso.

27th: at Falkirk - Premier League - D 1-1 - Ghassan Halabi

Not a pretty game at all. We probably should have lost this game.

March 2017

4th: at St. Mirren - Scottish Cup Quarter Final - D 2-2 - Scott McDonald (2)

Disappointed with the draw. But there is the replay at home...

8th: at AC Milan - Champions League 1st Knockout Round 2nd Leg - L 1-2 (L 1-6 agg.) - Tom Hall

We knew we had no chance to advance. But we did score one goal.

12th: at Motherwell - Premier League - W 3-0 - Ghassan Halabi, Scott McDonald, Nathan Delfouneso

Another good win. We went 3 for 3 in the shots on target department.

15th: vs St. Mirren - Scottish Cup Quarter Final Replay - W 3-2 - Ghassan Halabi, Danny Swanson, Nathan Delfouneso

Again, not a dominating result, but it's a win and we move on to the Semis.

18th: vs Hearts - Premier League - W 3-1 - Scott McDonald (2), Ghassan Halabi

We got off to an early lead and we never gave it up.

26th: vs Rangers - Premier League - W 3-1 - Zoumana Pruvot, Michael Hughes, Mark Wilson

Despite losing over half my lineup from internationals, and the SPL deciding not to rearrange this derby, we still won.

Thanks. I always like to be financially sound wherever I manage. With Distillery we were in debt, so the priority was to cut wages and get back to the NI Premier League asap. I think when I left the club I had over US$200k, not bad considering the club was over $100k in the red when I joined. With The Gills, they had a $5 million debt, and a few million in the bank. Once again, had to get rid of all the deadweight at the club, and switched parent clubs from Coventry to QPR to Arsenal. Six years later, one of the promotion contenders to the EPL this year (I'll take a bit of credit for that :D), and if my calculations are correct, they should have more than US$30 million in the bank.

With Celtic, finances are not a problem, although losing over $30 million last year. I still make sure to balance the books though as best as I can. I target Scandinavians (low transfer fees), and Brazilians and Spain (release fees) for financial reasons, and the fact that they're pretty good players too. :p

5th: vs Kilmarnock - Premier League - W 3-0 - Scott McDonald, Ghassan Halabi, Stuart McGwire

A good game from the lads.

15th: at Dundee United - Premier League - W 1-0 - Lee Cattermole

The game was a bit closer than I would have liked, but it was a relief to take home 3 points.

23rd: vs Dundee United - Scottish Cup Semi-Final - W 2-1 - Lee Cattermole, Stuart McGwire

McGwire scores the winner in the 80th minute, as we come from behind to make the Final.

26th: at Rangers - Premier League - L 0-2

Squeezing a little bit of FM here, July transfer season with Celtic hasn't been exactly fun. I realize that no one who has good footballing abilities with that extra bit of skill to take us to a deep European run wants to come to the team...or they just stay for a year or two and leave. They rather sign with Championship clubs...

I've been selling a lot more than buying.

But there is good news, looking towards the future, as I am now a World Class manager. :D

Good stuff in Europe. Now seems the time to play man utd.

It's still early days in the league but if rangers start to pull away it could be a long way back with few points being dropped by the top teams.

As you want out of the UK what are your long term plans? Is Celtic just a stop gap?

As you want out of the UK what are your long term plans? Is Celtic just a stop gap?

I resigned from the Gills a couple years back and I was highly touted to become the next manager of Ajax. But then Ajax hired Celtic's manager, and so I became manager of Celtic. I'm looking at top tier jobs in France, Germany, and (especially) Holland with relaxed non EU restrictions. And my players want to move to bigger clubs, which is probably my biggest gripe about being at Celtic (and Scotland in general...).

Why I want to leave the UK

  • work permits. I like signing Canadian and American players. And I've lost out on some great foreigners because they weren't born in the EU.
  • competition. :p
  • everyone likes it, I might as well be different. :p

Great story Rancer kutgw

Thanks mate. :D

I'm torn between this save and my Beverly (part of my CSE challenge) save, not to mention EHM, and something called uni coursework, so I haven't been playing this save much. I'm not planning to get FM10 till Christmas, so I'm not going to give up on this save.

Speechless about our loss to Patrick Thistle, and annoyed about a 91st minute goal by Chelsea, which means we have to score at Stamford Bridge in the return leg.

Celtic

March 2018

5th: at St. Mirren - Premier League - L 0-1

10th: vs Ross County - Scottish Cup Quarter Final - W 2-0 - Stuart McGwire (2)

14th: at Chelsea - Champions League 1st Knockout Round 2nd Leg - L 1-3

The media after the game said it was an easy victory for the Blues. No it wasn't. We had two chances to get an upset at Stamford Bridge, if not for the Lee Cattermole OG, and Javier missed the bloody net. They were dominant, but we should have won if not for two mistakes in regulation.

18th: vs Rangers - Scottish Cup Final - W 5-0

21st: at Rangers - Premier League - D 1-1 - James Wesolowski OG

31st: vs Airdrie United - Premier League - W 1-0 - Massimo Bucci

April 2018

8th: at Dundee United - Premier League - D 0-0

18th: vs Hibernian - Premier League - W 3-0 - Scott McDonald (2), Stuart McGwire

21st: vs Motherwell - Premier League - D 0-0

29th: vs Dundee United - Scottish Cup Semi Final - W 4-1 - Ghassan Halabi (2), Mark Reynolds, Stuart McGwire

Standings

We were struggling these months, despite actually losing one game. We had too many winnable games turn into draws. The Chelsea game was exciting, but you can just imagine my reaction once Javier missed the penalty. Not that we were going to win in the Quarters, but the Champions League 1st Knockout Round has always been a challenge for me...

Final Games:

May 2018

- 2nd: vs Hearts

- 5th: at Falkirk

- 12th: vs Rangers

- 16th: at Airdrie United

- 19th: vs Aberdeen (Scottish Cup Final)

- 22nd: vs Dundee United
