  1. A Question to all the people saying "this tactic doesn't work" "i cant win with this tactic"

How long do you try a tactic for before you deem it not to work?

    A few factors to consider.

-Players will take time to familiarise with tactics

-If you bring in a bunch of new players they will need time

-Does your team suit what being asked of them? (Do they have the stamina and work rate to press highly)

    - January/Feb always seems to be a rough month for me loosing games.

All of Knaps tactics are successful, but YOU have to put the work in finding the right players/teams.

Any suggestion for difficult games such as lowering mentality or LOE or you have just played with defo tactic?

I play the games, I don't change the tactic or the mentality at the start. If we are winning near the end 75/80 mins ill move to cautious.

I will turn of "tight marking" on the wingers for the other team as I find I always give away pens, especially if they have good dribbling. But that's the only change.

I would also suggest using the shouts guide that Knap linked, it was posted by someone with a Newcastle guide but cant remember his name.

Tested this and the Kingstonian 4141 version on Brighton.

With the idea you could rotate both tactics for tough games. Surprisingly the 4231 conceded less, maybe you could just run two versions of the 4231 with a lower mentality for away/tough games.

Out of interest who are you managing and how are you doing? I keep switching between letting my AM do my training and using downloaded schedules. Still trying to work out which is better. Probably just me being paranoid but I'm sure it has a huge impact on results and I'm not sure if it's a positive or negative :D

I like RDFs GenGen Press version. Its in the pack he released with the ones for KNAPS tactics.

Interesting stuff. Looks like the two centre midfielders struggle for decent ratings?

Yeahh seemed to work well for the more attacking players. In the other test with Salzburg where i actually play the games Szoboszlai got one of the best average ratings, but thats helped by his quality.

The striker appeared to do really well in all tests  987990817_Salzburg4231S.thumb.PNG.5207977395ef3a65fd3ff21fa1024e24.PNG

  6. More tweaks!!

Versions for Wingers and Inside Forwards depending what suits your team.

Arsenal won the double at least with both tactics!

Tests with Arsenal for sub top and elite with Liverpool.

Really happy with the results, thanks @knap for testing with Liverpool.

Please let me know any feedback if you test. I will provide player traits if tested.

These work on the latest match engine!!!

  7. Tweak to 4231 Paris Walkways.

I have tested this with Middlesboro who are underdogs and with Salzburg to see how it does against bigger champions league teams.

Santos is a current test with some traits added.

Middlesboro finished 2nd (1 point off champions!) and so far in Austria we are unbeaten. Beating Bayern and Chelsea on the way and finishing top of the group:)

In Salzburg I have trained the strikers to "beat offside trap" and "play one-twos" and both wingers to "get into opposition area" All the front three have great pace, accelerations and decisions.

Anybody that is able to test, I would appreciate your feedback.

I am working on a "best traits" list for the tactic to help get the best out of them.

Don't expect Sheffield to be winning the league obviously but I don't know who in the premier League is predicted to finish 20th in the game but say it is Sheffield and Liverpool are predicted to finish first.

You used the 2 teams to test it and Liverpool finished first and Sheffield finished say 8th-10th. It'll show that this tactic is useable with smaller teams and would make it easier for people who are managing underdog teams to use this tactic to outperform where they're expected to finish?

Just thought it would make the testing a bit more interesting as obviously with all of your testing the top team that you pick wins the league whereas if you added a second team, I'm sure they would fluctuate positions on each save and as a result would help determine which tactic is the best and which one outperforms the game?

There are tests with other teams that are lower rated on the spread sheet.

I plugged the attribute weights Knap provided into Genie Scout and the player ratings seem reasonable. Only thing I would say is that I suspect physical attributes are bit too highly rated. A ratio of roughly 3-1 between physicals and technicals for i.e. wingers seems a bit high to me. I have spent many years tinkering with attribute weights in FM (as well as in OOTP), and it's an impossible thing to get "perfect". The weights provided by Knap all seem to mostly make sense to me. I haven't tinkered with them at all except to increase the weights on my "club dna" attributes as mentioned below.

I am going the "club DNA" route for scouting; I look for bravery, determination, team work, work rate, acceleration, and stamina. I also require that they don't have a negative in big matches, or a really big negative in consistency or injury proneness, in the scouting report. After filtering on the club dna attributes (basically I require all of them to be >11 except bravery on attackers, which I require >8), I will load a shortlist up in Genie Scout and try to pick the best rated player I can afford.

This sounds like a really cool idea!

I think work rate and team work are really underrated as most of the tactics use high pressing. Also use "get stuck in" a lot which I think plays into bravery.

    Let me know your results

First tactic that hasn't got us promoted (lost in playoff finals 1-0 to Bournemouth), but I have had good success in personal saves with this formation.

DOF seems to have sold both goalkeepers which might have had a effect.

Have tests for pretty much all the popular shapes now. They can be found in Knaps tactic table under the Middlesbrough tab.
