BTW how do you find playing with over 25 leagues @Harper? I've never been able to play with more than 10. I imagine you have so many wonderkids to find. I can't imagine how laggy it would be in a long save through the 2050's though!

It's been ages since I've gone beyond five or six years in a single save game, to be honest. Maybe this year, with a laptop I can carry around and play on away from power!

After seeing the results @craiigman posted in the Benchmarking thread, I went out and bought my very first Apple computer. I opted for the MacBook Pro.

With this MacBook, I can comfortably play FM for a 3 hour session, unplugged.

For example last night, I played from roughly 9pm to 12am, with the following selected nations, with detail level for all nations set to "Senior Competitive Matches." My battery drained from 100% to 50% (in the white box)

Browsing through Steam is a little laggy, but FM is very responsive and quick.

I miss the lack of screen real estate, particularly when it comes to the match day tablet, but I have a 27" 2k monitor that I can hook up to if I desire.

It's nice being able to sit on the couch with the missus, without wires running across the room, playing on a machine that doesn't have fans kicking on every time it needs to engage the processor. My experience with the iPhone 11 Pro Max (my first Apple product in over a decade), sort of turned my attention back to giving Apple a chance. I haven't been disappointed with the performance, yet (but it's only been five days).

I did opt for the 16GB RAM upgrade. I have not run the benchmarks, yet.

I’ll have to look into the Steam settings. Thanks for the tip.

I already scaled it to the max resolution and either play at 85 or 95%. Had to do the later on my old laptop too.

Yeah, I haven't had it long enough to have a routine, though, I am not plugging it in overnight since the discharge is minimal in sleep mode. If playing in 2D is less intensive on the processing, I might switch to that.

I've gone through 9 cycles in 6 days; 1.5 cycles per day, on pace to hit 1000 cycles in a little under two years 😳 I think I did that math right.

Obviously, some of that is using the computer more than I would normally, while learning the OS and having a small portable laptop with excellent battery life for the first time. I did get AppleCare+, so I guess I shouldn't be too concerned and just plow through it with reckless abandon.

Yeah, I'm basically running down to 25-30% before I plug in. Been multitasking with FM in the background this evening (4ish hours) and I'm at 68% battery.

A year ago, I told my girlfriend I'd never buy an Apple product for myself. In December, my mom gave me her old iPhone 7 to stand in for my busted phone. I was impressed, so got an iPhone 11. And after reading about the M1 chip and seeing it's handling of FM in the benchmark thread, opted for it.

@jessejesster I can't recommend it enough, especially if you are looking for something that is both portable and FM capable. My only regret is not having patience for a 16" version of this machine!

First thing I did is download the anti-brexit mod (partly for political reasons - I wonder how long it will be before people realise they were conned to vote for tanking their economy and limiting their way of life just to make a few rich men richer - and that it won't have any impact on immigration either) because I don't believe SI's interpretation is how it will actually work in practice. As it happens, I've subsequently doubled my number of homegrown players and am prioritising youth...

I believe I tried signing Santi before the v21.1.3 with updated Brexit rules. I can't remember.

The real Brexit rules around football aren't as restrictive as SI implemented in 21.1.0 - 21.1.2.

I'm with you on the political reasons though, but as a US citizen, we have enough of our own issues, can't go around throwing too many stones around.

  4. I go for JAA and JPP > 15 for the European and South American regions. I guess 15 is kind of arbitrary

For Asia, Africa, and North American regions, I tend to opt for "local knowledge" that are from or have existing knowledge of a region. So, I'll favor the highest JPP available, then anyone the send to me gets more review from different scouts anyway.

I think signing Rambo back is a great idea, mate. I might do the same.

Every Arsenal save I do I am a sentimental wally in some ways, already got Bergkamp as a coach & Tony Adams as an U18 coach (even though his stats aren't good at all) - bringing Santi back for a season is a good idea too. The Ox is transfer listed on my save, been tempted by that, also.

Santi didn’t sign for me in January because he didn’t get a work permit! Argh!

Nice - thanks for the feedback.

So it seems both the Macbook Pro and Air are winners with this new M1 chip then.

Never been an Apple fan, but all credit to them with this.  They're even giving decent desktop processors a run for their money with the FM benchmarks.

Lolz - mate you just give that responsibility to your assistant manager (or anyone else for that matter). You literally never have to deal with it (I don't - it's a pain).

I love the training, I've only just recently got into it & I swear it's improved stuff (I might be wrong)

I review and set player individual trainings, but mostly leave general training to the Ass Man. Only time I get involved is if I introduce a new tactic or set piece routine. When I do that, I set the general training to heavy match preparation and tactical training, or set-piece training in order drill it in and get familiarity built up a little faster.

  8. I rattled off a 23 game unbeaten run, only to lose on the final day to Aston Villa (who, despite winning, got relegated).

Villa was even with Newcastle on 40 points, but needed to over come a significant GD deficit (Villa was -29 to Newcastle's -10)

Gotta love that Spurs form. 1-5-9 in the last fifteen matches. Dropped from 6th place at round 35 to 9th after Round 38.

Conversely, Brighton were 14th after round 35 and clinched the Europa Conference League spot on the last day.

You're looking at the top 9 point accrual week by week (Point Total, Result)

Wow, *20-ish secs faster than the 8GB M1 MBP which has an impressive time as it is. **

Are you able to let us know how it performs in general after a decent session? As is heat, fan, waiting times between match days, etc? And what settings you have it set to, how big a database you have loaded, if the 3d match engine performs well, etc?

Would be great to know how it performs after at least 2 to 3 hours of playing time (which I guess would be an average-ish session for most of us?)

Mine (M1 MBP 16GB 512SSD) is due to arrive between the 16th and 23rd of December and I'm hoping to be able to start a Journeyman-ish save on it.

    * EDIT: In regards to Benchmark A time - please correct me if I'm wrong craiigman but I read your time as 2:22 because that's what was put into the Combined Results spreadsheet, but then upon review I read your post as 2:02.

** EDIT: Benchmark A time has been confirmed by @craiigman as 2:02 for 8GB M1 MBP

I remember someone saying they sold Luiz and everyone kicked off, has anyone sold him with no problems?

I don't recall any issues with Luiz.

In my first meeting with the team, I indicated I would not stand in the way of big transfers and that I would reduce the size of the squad.

Somehow, Xhaka is mad that I failed to keep my promise of reducing the squad size when I sold Luiz, Mustafi, Kolašinac, Lacazette, and Macey. Sent Cedric and Saliba out on loan. And brought in Kris Ajer and Greg Taylor.

For some reason, Pablo Mari is happy, but Ceballos and Marí are not, despite a net reduction of five players. Enough to register everyone within the confines of the Europa League registration rules at the end of January.

Xhaka and Aubameyang were upset by selling Özil and Lacazette, but were assuaged by the youth player promise.

  11. Seems weird to me that Kieran Tierney is clapping from the time he delivers the short corner to Willian, while he receives the balls from Willian, passes it to Saka (who scores a beaut).

I was playing in 2D with 3D replays. I noticed it in the replay and had to double check.

This is screen capture of the replay accessed by clicking the notable events link: https://imgur.com/8fAUSlb

Had to pay kola off 2.5m to go but that was a steal for me!

Mustafi even accepted speeding up his decision to go.

@Harper how does Ajer play for you? I have just agreed a contract. He adds height, determination and leadership which is why I picked him.

Anyone have any good suggestions for backup LB? Can AMN cover well enough?

Sorry, not sure how I missed your question.

Ajer has been my go to DC purchase the last few iterations. I haven’t opened my game up yet this morning, but he does everything right. In FM20, he was a set piece wizard, thumping headers into the back of the net or across the face of goal for someone else to poke in. The DM versatility is a bonus.

Greg Taylor, another lad from Celtic, has been a surprise for me at LB. He is only rated two stars by my staff, but his attributes are appropriate for a backup. Was in a pinch cause I got a surprise offer for Kolasinac and needed a backup for Tierney at the deadline. Was the easiest one to get done. Also loaned Cedric out, so didn’t want to rely on AMN. Worked out because there was a week or so where Bellerín and Tierney had overlapping periods of injury in the height of April FA Cup/EL/PL congestion.

Does anyone think that partey is actually any good in this? he has been my b2b player in this and doesnt seem to really do a brilliant job, last year i was using nididi as a bwm and willock as a b2b as that was an intense combination, actually am thinking about selling him as well as tierney, he is to injury prone for me, am using a 4-2-3-1 formation to

He's good for B2B and I've used him in that role significantly. I like him more as a BWM with risky passing.

Looking to strip the squad down in 1st window and add some quality youth players by selling the following

Mustafi,  Sokratis,  David Luiz (possibly),  Cedric,  Kolasinac,  Elneny and maybe Lacazette.

If you have had success selling these in the first window can you indicate who they went to, the fee etc.

From Lacazette, I was able to get £60M from Real Madrid in the beta; £50M from Manchester United in v21.1.2

I haven't tried selling Elneny, yet, but everyone gets interest, even Özil. I had to include some wage contribution on Luiz and Sokratis, but it's only a season and still frees up money.
