  1. I agree there is more that needs to be done. There are aspects of the game that could be tidied up to be more appealing. I just think having big stars at arguably Britain's biggest club in a trailer for FM has to be a positive start. I think FM can be sold to a range of young people. Are there problems, yes? FM probably needs a real strong online aspect to it, because I'm sure that's how a lot of kids play games these days. I do think SI need to work hard on making the UI as user friendly as possible, but I also don't think young people will all be turned off by its current state. Im just happy to see SI, and Sega as I'm sure they had a big role in grabbing Gundogan et Al, try this approach. Discussion on this can only be a good thing.
  2. I really don't think you got my point. Have another guess and maybe I'll explain it afterwards. I merely meant young people won't necessarily ignore a game because the graphics are not the strongest and that games like Rimworld are examples of how graphics aren't everything in making a game popular. I suspect Minecraft is a better example of a game that is not really known for outstanding graphics being popular with kids. 🤔
  3. Im not trying to make you look foolish with this comment, but one thing I notice is that the more I think about issues with the engine the more I notice them. The match engine in FM is a simulation of the beautiful game and it is never going to be perfect. For it to be absolutely perfect managers would probably need a super computer to run it. There are going to be imperfections and little 'kinks' that are visible in each edition of FM. I just play the game as it is each edition. I just think that the more people get hung up on unavoidable imperfections the more they make playing the game harder for that person. Accept the game will have limitations, and that SI put in huge amount of effort to make as real a simulation as possible, and enjoy the game as many do. I have issues with a lot of the UI and some choices but I can get past them to enjoy the wonderful game that FM is. I do understand your concerns but positive playing is a great thing to achieve. Just enjoy the game for what it is at the time.
  4. No, but nor were you. You were giving the age old idea that the game is only playable after patch 3, weren't you. I'd love more patches but what a lot of you don't understand is that patching a game as complex as FM is not merely changing a line of code, or two. Understand that and then criticise patches.
  5. We're only talking 2000. The Playstation had been out years and the second generation of consoles had launched. No ones talking about all younguns, but having City stars playing the game is going to draw an eye. Some around here will doubt for doubt's sake. Kid's these days have PL footballers as their idols, and if these idols show they play the game they might well give it a thought. I think many here do a discredit to the imagination of kids.
  6. Rubbish. Young people play Rimworld, Among Us (if that's the correct title) etc. Graphics aren't everything. I do agree there are some who might baulk, but not just at the graphics, but the strength of FM is in it's gameplay and the strength of this year's match engine and the database. Nothing comes close to FM in that regard. Some tidying up and improving of the UI and some social features is needed but I have no doubt there are younguns that could love FM. Even I was young when I first played...didn't even have graphics then...just circles. EDIT: Actually it didn't even have circles back then. Just text. And, to add. The FM discord I chat on is all young people and many of them. They seem to love the game.
  7. I think it's always been a concern that FM is a game for the oldies more than it is the young...ies. So to get Gundogan, Foden, Rodri et al for that trailer really could open eyes on FM to a newer audience. Good stuff, SI And I love the fact it's been out so little time on YT that some people are probably asking "what trailer?"
  8. I agree with all of this. I love the ideas of the squad planner but it does need additions. My idea was to have a column where I could add my own star rating for a player, similar to how some might give a young newgen player a nickname that was a rating of potential. A column to which we can add thoughts such as 'train as MC' that outline your plans for a player's future would be nice. FM has had notes for some time now but I have always found them very user unfriendly. They include categories and reminders but always felt more hassle than useful to me. I'd like to see the squad planner integrated into the squad view screen in some way. One of my big problems with the squad planner currently is that it's a click away from my heavily curated list of my squad. Some sort of drag and drop tool, as in the tactics screens, would be very useful. Maybe it just needs to be another view on the squad screen because views are something I use a lot. Maybe one day FM could be made dual screen in some way, such as the ability to drag windows to another screen - but I don't know the programming possibilities of that some it's just a tangent thought. I've said a number of times that FM seems to do a lot to cater to persons wanting a new look to the game or those needing to zoom and those with colour blindness. I see it now caters to those wanting they and them in use. What it doesn't do is cater to age and lessened memory. SI removed logs of player conversations some editions ago and I would like to see them back. I see the squad planner as a first step to really refining the UI and giving managers a lot more tools to take notes. I'd love to see a much improved note mechanic along with seeing the squad planner grow into a tool that is extremely useful. Hopefully our feedback can be helpful in that.
  9. I can also use the spacebar to advance, as I said, but the fact remains that the timer is excessive and the menu, which I opened because I look for things, does mean two clicks when one should be sufficient. If the menu is redundant then it just echoes more poor design. Either way this whole new approach to draws comes out as a first pass on a new idea and one that I still don't feel is that good. It also doesn't advance to the next team, it advances through stages of a mechanic I do like the idea of but one which doesn't really work because it's too slow. It also did mess up the window for me. I had also opened up the overview and I don't know if that was what messed up the process. Before I did so I was seeing the 'show matchup info' button but it disappeared after I'd visited overview or advanced through the draw. I know someone at SI worked hard on this and I will again say that I think it's a fun idea. It needs refining though.
  10. Well, that's why I'm giving feedback on it in a beta feedback thread... I probably am late to the party with providing feedback on this particular feature. I am sure many, many users have seen this and said what they think already. I only just have. FM gets a lot of stick for things that I find fine. This is probably the first time I've been really shocked at how a new idea is implemented. These things have to be said.
  11. This is just it. The CL draw should be something that people want to watch but implementing it poorly ruins the whole idea of making draws look better. Just sad that it comes across as a missed opportunity.
  12. I've just had my first look at the new way draws are done in FM23 and I am rather underwhelmed. It takes ages to run through automatically. Longer than a draw on TV We have a timer that seems to be 10 seconds and it's not always when a team is drawn out. The draw I am watching is the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup and features over 150 teams. It's been 5 minutes and there are 110 teams left to draw. Why is the timer 10 seconds? I timed the drawing of one fixture in the 2nd Qualifying Round and it was 40 seconds. It's not just 2 lots of 10 seconds to draw teams. There is preamble between the drawings that each take 10 seconds. The result is a draw for 150 teams takes absolutely bloody ages and way longer than it did in FM22. It is also bugged beyond belief. I can stop the timer and advance the draw to the next team but I have to go via the menu below to do so. Firstly, that menu disappears when you click an option. To advance again you have to click to open the menu again and then click the option. Secondly, because the timer is stopped the screen is showing the wrong information. The draw is showing St. Ives vs Chorley whilst the live reaction is showing that Hayes & Yeading are playing KIngs Langley. The screens don't seem to keep up. I love this game, and have done so for 20+ years, but I am sorry to say that this draw is one of the most poorly added mechanics I have seen in all my years watching FM. 1) It is slow beyond belief. Reduce the time between advances. In no way does it need to be 10 seconds. Rosie has it right with the most apt reaction I've seen. 2) The screen is poorly set up with massive amounts of empty space and a hidden away advance button that has to be clicked too many times to advance the ties. See that bloody great space on the screen in the screenshot above that showd St Ives and Chorley? Fill it with the advance button. Open up the different advance options so they don't disappear with each press (can be done nicer than I have done with paint, of course). 3) The twitter style reactions can be fun sometimes, but isn't the below a bit much at these stages of the FA Cup. It might be fun for the FA Cup 3rd Round, a European draw or the World Cup but it is way too drawn out to be something all but the most time free players of this game are ever going to want to use. I did eventually find out that spacebar advanced through the teams and I don't have to use that poorly implemented advance button but it still felt poorly implemented as a whole. In past FMs I liked just clicking the button to have the draw take place automatically. I could see teams drawn and had some tension regarding who played who that I was happy with. It didn't take 40 seconds to draw a tie and I didn't have to press buttons to advance. I could lean back and just watch the teams drawn. When my team came out the hat I'd normally then auto complete the draw. In this 40 seconds per tie format I got so bored I just quit to the end. I mean, who decided it need to be drawn out to 40 seconds a tie? We're not watching on TV here. I don't know that I want it to take that long if I was watching a draw for one of the events I listed that might be fun, above. I am someone who takes 30 minutes plus to get through matches in FM and I thought this draw format was way too drawn out. It takes me a month to do a season. If I am not the audience for this new format then who on earth is? I like the idea to flash up draws but it is very poorly implemented. The timer only needs to be a couple of seconds. EDIT: Went on a bit there, I know. Just really shocked at how poor this new 'feature' is. I hate to be so harsh on the game but I dunno what they were thinking with this.
  13. It may surprise some to know that I've felt the very same way before. I'm a glass half full person when it comes to FM and SI. I think that regardless of features, FM is a stunning game every year. There are many issues and I've had my grumbles here during beta. Ever consider it's a burnout thing? I played FM religiously from about 2003 to 2015ish. I do play other games but I played a lot of FM at that time. I got to the point where I had no interest in playing and I missed a year. It did my enjoyment of FM the world of good and I enjoyed FM22 immensely, though FM22 was some years after the year break. Doing anything to excess will cause burnout. You're welcome to your opinion of the game. It's your opinion, and you went in to detail. It just sounds an awful lot like how I felt when I missed a year. I still take 3 or 4 weeks off FM, and play other games, throughout the year. I feel better for it and enjoy the time I spend with FM more.
  14. I have had some thoughts on CDs myself. I'm playing at NL South level and seeing a lot of long ball football, though that's not the issue. For quite a few goals I see the CDs totally misjudge the flight of the ball and lose their man, only for him to run in and score a one on one. I wonder if it's the level I'm at. I'm not sure if it's as big a problem as there was a few FMs ago with defenders. I do feel for SI after going to the match engine bug forum though. Wading through that will be hell.
  15. Perhaps, as you're such a big fan of the game for 30 years, you might like to divulge a little on what's bloat and what issues have failed to be resolved. For what it's worth, I do agree that some issues remain from previous versions but no one can fix that if you don't say what they are. Give SI some feedback...as that happens to be why it's called a feedback thread and not an 'I'm off and why' thread. Maybe that way FM24 can be better for you and you can try for another 30 years. Not sure the beta's been like this for 30 years though. My post may sound a little snarky, but I'm just old. It really does help to expand upon reasons that you are not pleased with. Enjoy your other games though, there are some good games out there I fail to get enough time in because of FM.
  16. I believe this is the black kit bug from previous versions of FM. I just experienced it again myself. I was playing Barnet - match pkm included - and their players suddenly appeared in an all black kit. Sadly, I didn't take a screenshot. At first it was justr 3 players but a late sub they made appeared on field in a black kit. I checked replays from the match but the kit colour change can't be seen. I assume it only happens during a match and it is very random or triggered by a very specific instance. I have added Salisbury v Barnet.pkm to the cloud if it helps.
  17. Ooh, I never bothered to check filters. Thanks Last 5 are indeed all agents offers
  18. Did SI say there'd be less scout reports delivered to our inboxes? I was getting that many last year.
  19. Im always wary of overloading the QA team at SI. There is an abundance in the community of people suggesting bug reports are ignored. I don't believe that for a second, but I do wonder if they have the resources. I like to think there's someone at SI reading everything said in this thread but, mainly from comments, I wonder if that is true. I do feel, however, that there are UI issues I mention, or see mentioned, yearly that never are fixed. Fixed is iterative because FM is changing all the time. Im saying a lot about nothing really but I sometimes wonder if there's enough transparency in FM. I follow MMOs and see so much chatter and requests for feedback/discussion from devs. Then I turn to FM and feel that the only time we really see discussion is the release build up. I just watched that FM23 roundtable and feel it even more so. I know SI care enormously about FM but would love to know if UI issues would ever change. The big one for me has been QoL; the taking of notes in game and the loss of tools to see past conversations with players. Just frustrating that I mention these things yearly and never know if there's ever a chance to see it resolved. But I just don't know if they're aware or even if they consider it an issue. Of course, they can't make promises but a simple "that could be fixed" or "we took out tools to view player conversations because". There are many games that give feedback on choices. Probably rambled a bit there when the point was to explain why I debate bugging.
  20. I've actually found that's been a little less prevalent in FM23, though my experience is with WBs rather than wingers. I've seen some lovely quick crossing from my WBs. I must try wingers at some point, but after the ability I am seeing from WBs I'm in no hurry. I do think you should consider their ability to find the man in the box. Not trying to dismiss your point, because I have seen similar over the years in FM, but I suspect there is varying levels of what constitutes a free man in the box. I have often wished that there was more range in instructions for wingers. Currently there is cross from byline and cross from deep. There is also get in early crosses. I'd like a simple instruction that tells a winger to get a ball in as quick as possible. From what I have seen of early crosses it is not quite the same thing. Quite often, in FM22, I saw wingers with acres of space take too long to deliver a ball and they are then blocked by defenders.
  21. This window. Why is it that after happening in many FMs to date does this window constantly close on me? Its is one of the most annoying issues in FM. I'll be going through a list of players, chosing certain ones to play in youth matches, and all of a sudden the window closes. It always resets to the top of the list too. I scroll down again, only for the window to then close...again. Two of the most annoying UI issues in FM that have been present for a number of editions.... 1. Windows closing or not closing. This window closes when it likes, the player information window stays up and you have to click somewhere on screen to get rid of it, 2. Numerous lists in FM - these available players for youth team lists, fixtures come to mind immediately - default to the top everytime I go to them.
  22. Is it really so hard to get this player selection for youth teams window to stay up? If I have my mouse over the window why does it disappear? This has been an issue for a number of FMs now. I wasn't going to bug it, because I figured it must be known, but I will because it is such an annoying issue and really shouldn't still be a thing for the past however many FMs. This is one of two really infuriating UI issues that have been in FM for many years. 1. The above window closes whenever it likes. However, if I click on a player's small profile window it is a right pain to get rid of. I find I have to mouse off the profile window and click on screen to remove it. It is as if each different aspect of the UI has its own little personality. 2. Lists defaulting to top position when I move through screens. The biggest expample of this is the fixtures screen. For some reason it always defaults to the start of the season so when I'm playing matches after Christmas I always have to scroll down to get to the matches I want to see. Then, when I click on a match, I go back after to find the fixture list is again at the start of the season and I have to scroll down again... The window that is the subject of this post is another example. Every time the window closes it defaults back to the top player and I have to scroll down again...I get to the player I was on before the window closes...and the window closes again. These are little things that I am sure could be fixed in next to no time at all. They are issues I have seen reported and have myself been mentioning for a number of FMs now. Are they ever fixed? No. Surely they can't be things put on hold for the next FM. Even if there is some explanation for them happening, I have never seen it. I love this game so much that little things like this are so infuriating. I believe SI strive for perfection, so why are little issues like this allowed to remain? Would a browser or word processor program allow little issues like this to persist? No, so why does FM?
  23. Is anyone else getting lots of tutorials/inductions for every aspect of the game? I am pretty sure I set my experience to not needing any tutorials. I can't find a way to turn them off.
  24. I'm not even in a network save. Why did I get this achievement? I'm not sure how much control over steam achievements SI have.
