  1. I still play FM06 every now and again. Pretty much everything you wrote above applies to that version as well. Although, I got used to the sliders (thanks to TT&F, which I still read occasionally for old times sake), I find the new tactics system much more user friendly and easier to make changes on the fly.

  2. The first thing I'd suggest is, the next time this happens, change your key highlights to extended, or even full match for a bit and see why and how the opposition is able to nullify your attacks.

On the surface, I don't do much different to what you described above. Although, I do play full matches, rather than using key highlights, and I make all sorts of micro-tweaks as a match progresses.

If the opposition go down to 10 men, I'd typically give it a few minutes to see how the opposition has adapted to the change (again, easier to do on full matches). Depending on how the match was going up to that point, I might be happy just to grind out a dull draw against a stronger team.

If I was looking to press my advantage, the first changes I'd typically make would be to play wider, and deeper, shorten the passing a bit, and play a lower tempo, so that my team moves the ball around more and more patiently probes for spaces and overlaps. With that in mind, I'd probably look to get my fullbacks up the pitch a bit, as the most likely place to find the extra man would be out wide. However, I'm not talking crazy attacking, as by the same token, I wouldn't want them bombing up the field so much that it compresses the space and makes it easier for the 10 men to defend.

However, it does depend on the team and the situation, and how the opposition reacts. Under some circumstances, I might be inclined to take advantage of the extra man by using a more luxury player like a trequartista or a raumdeuter, or possibly changing my (usually 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1) system to something different to try and make use of the additional space.

  3. Partially. But it's also the season after West Ham won the Cup Winners Cup. It would be a fun save trying to improve on that, Especially getting to play with such a famous crop of players in the squad.

The 85-86 season was West Ham's highest ever league finish, eventually finishing in 3rd. It would be a fun save trying to finish a couple of places better.

That said, I don't usually play FM as West Ham, as I prefer extreme lower league management. I'm currently managing a team in the Essex Senior League.

  4. Partly for the tactical side, partly for the editor, and partly for the overall package. The visuals aren't that important to me in the way the poll probably intended, as I play my matches on 2D, and I find the 2D engine in FM20 much more fluid than previous versions.

I selected the editor option, since that's where the majority of my time ends up going.

  5. What I  believe you need to do is add regional boundaries to each league, so that teams will be relegated into the correct region. You'll probably have to add GPS coordinates to the top division teams, and some of the regional Premier teams as I may not have done that for the teams that already existed in the game, but I did do it for all of the new teams

Then, for each regional Premier division, you'll have to change the number of allowed teams max and min values, so that it accepts a range.

There's probably other stuff that I haven't thought of, but those are the main things as I understand them.

Cheers mate. And apologies to everybody for the lack of news and updates. It's hard to explain how busy and stressful the past few weeks have been.

I hope you are all doing okay, and your family and friends are all happy and healthy.

Now that I'm working from home for the foreseeable future, there is a small chance that I might find some time for future updates. I don't want to make any promises though, as I still have a full time job and three university papers to keep on top of. (My university has closed for a month, so hopefully I can get ahead in my study which will give me more free time for updates.)

Yesterday, for the first time in ages, I actually started up FM19, and played a couple of matches of my Clevedon save.

I actually like some of the complaints. Seems that people why try to replicate gegenpress or are using a very attacking mentality are suffering the most in this ME version. 'Oh my plug and play downloaded gegenpress tactics aren't working anymore, my striker can't score and I concede a lot. Plz help'. To these kind of people: keep in mind that 3 FM's earlier a thing like gegenpress didn't even exist or was non-existent to replicate, so go ahead to the tactics forum and learn the basics. Make a balanced tactic that suits most teams and most match engines.

I haven't played the updated version yet, but that's what I'm hoping for. In the beta (with my system at least) , even a pacy defensive line on the deepest setting was conceding several one on ones a match.

If, in the current implementation, teams that play a very high line and press aggressively are getting hit more with balls over the top, but teams that play a low block are not, then I'll be a very happy chap. It's these sort of real world pro and con balancing acts that make coming up with the best tactics for a team, and for an individual match, such a challenge and such a joy when done right.

  8. Correct. The teams and leagues are currently just last year's file ported to FM20 with a few playability improvements. I won't have time to update all but the highest divisions this season due to time constraints. (the NRFL divisions will be updated at some point in time thought as they're high enough up the pyramid).

Regards the OFC qualifications, it worked last year, but I haven't specifically tested it this season.
