Playing on macOS 11.7.10 (20G1427). I cannot seem to load/save tactic .fmf locally. In fact, the whole file system navigation seems to be broken. For example, in the attached image the Users directory is shown and appears empty meaning I can't navigate to my Desktop. I also tried using Terminal to copy a tactic file to /tmp and navigated there but the .fmf file didn't appear in game. It seems unlikely that this will be fixed in FM24, so it would be useful if a Developer could give us an idea of where the Cloud files are stored locally on macOS so we can try and access them that way (I cannot find any FM Touch directory in my iCloud so presumably it is mapped to some hidden library directory).

Maybe for FM25 then... Luckily I'm just playing on a Apple Arcade trial and won't be continuing when it ends.

When going on holiday, 'Use Current Match Tactics' and 'Use Current Selection Where Possible' do not work. I picked my tactic and line-up, went on holiday for a few weeks and when looking at the match stats, the AM had played a different tactic and line-up.

You can ask the board for an affiliate club which can help to recruit youth from that nation (assuming the affiliate is foreign, of course). I think the manager nationality and possibly HOYD/staff nationaloty also affect it. I'm sure I've read somewhere in the past too that it also depends on the city the club is from e.g. London clubs will more likely have youth with different nationalities which reflects the diversity of the city compared to a small town etc.

how to train new positions
CAE82 replied to Andrewcrawford131's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
You can select a position/role in training (assuming they have at least some familiarity with that position) but you really just need to give them game time in the new position and they'll pick it up eventually. -
@Zachary Whyte I’ve seen someone post on Discord saying that their new signings have ended up with the same hidden attributes as the player they used to welcome them. This may be related to the above. I’ve only seen increases in Determination for new signings, not the youth players I’ve been mentoring to try and exploit this bug

I'm in the process of uploading two saves - "Evan Ferguson - Det XX'" where XX is 11 and 17, before and after his jump. Note in the 11 save, he is in the 'Other' social group and in the '17' one he has moved to the 'Core' group (same as his mentors). Possibly this contributes to the big increase. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see montoring make a (postive) difference, but such a sharp jump hints at a bug, so maybe just tone it down a bit rather than squashing it completely, lol.

Average rating vs Last 5 games
CAE82 replied to thefmveteran86's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Looking at that screenshot, I'd personally think most players are in poor form (last 5 games) and so you should look to address it e.g. warn players about poor performance. But Last 5 games is not always clear-cut - players may have played for U21 for match fitness. You'll often find that your second string players may have higher ratings as they may play the easy cup games/home league players against poorer teams etc. -
p.s. Weaker Foot is just another 1-20 attribute, exactly as Finishing is for example. Imagine a SC has 17 for Finishing, 10 for weaker foot, 13 for Tackling and 157CA. Another SC may have 157 CA, with 17 for Finishing, 16 for Weaker Foot and 1 for Tackling. Who would you rather have? p.p.s. It's good that you question YouTubers! Just like the 24/7 football media they often talk rubbish in the relentless pursuit of hits/likes/views.

@Four3Three You're right. Don't get caught up on CA. Attributes are king. CA is essentially just an 'average' of attribute values (that depends on their position as Cadoni said). The Match Engine relies on attribute values, not CA. Training and development improves attributes. As a result, CA increases. PA effectively acts as a cap on CA. Suppose you have a Striker with CA of 150 and a PA of 170. So he has 20 'CA points' to develop. He has Finishing of 15 and Pace of 15. You may train his Finishing up to 18 which 'uses up' his CA points and so he is left at 18/15 for Finishing/Pace. Similarly, you may instead decide to train his Quickness and he is left at 15/17 for Finishing/Pace. Either way his CA may end up at his PA and so no further development is possible.

No luck unfortunately! The agreements didn’t do anything. I also tried adding Serbia as a Nation recognised as an EU nation, but that didn’t seem to do anything either. One possible solution could be to add Montenegro as a 2nd nationality to all Serbian players, but not sure there is a way to do that in bulk.

Coaching Badges - Staff Attributes
CAE82 replied to CAE82's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Yes, I think that too. I've several 4.5 star staff with low (e.g. 10) values for discipline. I'm sure you used to need 15+ in DDM to get 4/5 star ratings in the past. Will probably wait for FM24 and then do some experiments to see for sure. -
Coaching Badges - Staff Attributes
CAE82 replied to CAE82's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
December update. So coaching badges seem to be double-edge sword and if staff fail it will kill their motivation and since we know DDM affects star ratings, then it will affect their coaching ability. Didn't check his CA/PA before the course, but maybe was at his PA and so couldn't improve so was destined to fail... -
This is something I've suspected for a while but am not 100% sure about. Has anyone else noticed a drop in 'motivating' attribute when a staff member is struggling on a coaching course? Example 4th June, Nista studying for his Pro Badge, 15 in Motivation 30th June, get a news item that he is struggling. Immediately following this his motivation has dropped to 11. In a different save, I am sure I've seen the motivation attribute drop very low and think it was for staff who failed courses. I'd never sign a staff member with low DDM so think that failing the coaching badges is causing the motivation to fall.

To add to what holidaysong says, that tool is useful to tweak your tactic during a game. For example, if I were Milan in that situation, I’d consider lowering the mentality of the RB to guard against the attacks down the right. Since only 14% of their attacks are down the Milan left, I’d make the LB attacking since there is less risk in being caught out and focus play down that flank for a while to try (I’d guess the opposition are currently focussing play down their left flank).

Swansea University: The 65,535-year-old club?
CAE82 replied to cerud's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Lol. 65,535 is the largest value you can store in a 16-bit unsigned value. It’ll be interesting if next year it ticks back over and then they’ll have a 0 year history! -
Using Machine Learning to Predict Current Ability
CAE82 replied to CAE82's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Yes, I did write that a few years ago and know all about the weights. That works for a single position, but not multiple positions. The aim of this ML model is to take into account the effect of the positions, since we don't know the formula and so that is the unknown. Although we know the weights of the attrbutes for each position, we do not know how the attribute weights are weighted for players with multiple positions e.g. The overall CA is not a simple weighted mean of the CA for each individual position nor does it appear that it is a simple maximum weight. I could never deduce the relationship and hence resorted to using ML which does exactly what is it meant to do - we provide the attributes and positions and it gives a pretty good prediction of the CA. In terms of linearity, if you look at an individual attribute, then it has a linear relationship to CA e.g. However, the method posted on FM Scout seemed to breakdown for players with several high-valued, high-weighted attributes. For example, Dan James was an 'outlier' due to his very high acceleration, agilty, pace and stamina; all highly-weighted for wingers. Adama Traore was another. This hinted at some non-linearity at the extremes (see the graph on FM Scout - it is clearly linear in the range 6-16 but then the CA caps at 200. I imagine this is why players like Haaland, Mbappe and De Bruyne have some very low values for some (albeit irelevant) attributes. Marking, positioning, tackling are typically very low. Of course, you may say 4 is appropriate but it could also be because if it is 6 then they'll hit the 200 cap. Anyhow, the model does what I wanted it to - I can now provide attributes and positions and predict a fairly accurate CA. No one knows the underlying formula for sure and with ML we don't need to. I've not seen a more accurate model of CA in the FM Community and so I am happy with the outcome of a fun experiment one weekend when I had a few spare hours (after too many years I'm bored of the game itself, hoping for some genuinely new features in FM25, not expecting much from FM24). -
Using Machine Learning to Predict Current Ability
CAE82 replied to CAE82's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Actually, regarding multicolinearity, I guess you are referring to the fact that the attributes weights are affected by the position ratings? So the position rating inputs essentially affect the attribute inputs too?
