On Attack, the Libero never quite did that, unfortunately. For years, he would just sort of cross the halfway line and hang around there, I'm not sure if was a game breaker or anything but I think it's better now it's D/S only

The "Quarta role" might be a good feature request

Yeah I thought with new rotations and positional play a Libero on Attack could be viable and personally I think the 'John Stones role' irl is a but more aggressive than current version of Libero on Support. Maybe traits/PPM's like gets forward whenever possible or gets into opposition area could help?  Fun fact: Quarta lacks any relevant trait for the Quarta role atm :D

Will post a request for the Quarta role at some point

  2. I'm liking new roles and rotations though I'm a bit disappointed by lack of Attack duty for Libero. Was hoping to recreate the role of Lucas Martinez Quarta at Fiorentina i.e. a CB that not only steps into midfield but also attacks the box and get in scoring positions. Can't seem to achieve this with a Support duty.

Big fan of the new inverted fullback though I'm not sure this is an ideal term for the role. It seems to suggest a similarity with the inverted wingback while the two roles behave in very different ways. Also the inverted full back isn't really 'inverted', it's mostly a more defensive version of the wide centre back role from fullback position as correctly explained in role description. I'd simply rename this role 'Wide Defender', seems more suitable and should avoid confusion with IWB. Very minor issue but still :D

So you can manage the Wellington reserves? Of you send send them from your 1st team to the reserves and then they automaticly play in the NZ league?

Yeah you can manage the Reserve team if you fire/don't hire their manager and take over staff responsibility :D I don't actually manage them directly (I already manage first team + national team including U23, U20 and U19 in major tournaments!) but I make sure the manager uses my tactics and I pick the first eleven so my best prospects get the desired playing time. I'm using a custom NZ file so it's an active league (using Timo's file as most of the others I've tested had weird issues with Phoenix reserve btw if TMC wants a new challenge for FM 24 I suggest the incredibly complicated NZ structure )

I remember the day this happened.

Rene Higuita  scored 41 club goals and 3 International goals in real life and is a very very decent starting point for a Goal-scoring GK in this save. :applause:

I wasn't actually aware that there were loads of fixtures in Colombia. All I know is that the rules are a bit mad and that I think you are relegated based on an average number of points over 5 seasons or something, but I'm honestly not 100% sure.

Yes by the way, my GK's will absolutely be taking pens and free-kicks in this save.

You need to hire him as a GK coach at some point :D

    Looking forward to this!

That looks brilliant. The groups are probably a bit easy for Phoenix but it's better than coming straight in at the knockouts I think. San Diego-->Hawaii is a fun idea because it's an instant rival at a roughly similar level

Love the joint club/country saves like that, I used to get a kick out of Bermuda in the US fourth division along with their national team (Island Games ftw). Same with Puerto Rico + Puerto Rico FC, or Toronto FC and Canada U20s, etc. Just have to ignore the temptation to call up all of your rivals' players for meaningless friendlies just to weaken them when they overlap with big games

A-League is not much tougher esp after first year (AI struggles with all the roster rules). Phoenix/NZ are great for developing youngsters for both club and country. Usual pathway for best prospects is: OFC U19 Championship, U20 World Cup, U23 Pacific Games, U23 Olympic Qualifiers while also playing for Phoenix Reserves in NZ league. This gives them lots of playing time at decent level at 16-18 and massively helps their development. Top prospects like Keegan Kelly go straight to first team :D

@Vakama2619 tbh he scores a lot (too much) from corners though his physical attributes alone make him one of the best strikers in A-league! Is he in your save? Found him at Western Springs as I was looking for a striker for U19 OFC Championship and looked good for his age - immediately signed him at the club on a scholarship contract! He has since developed better than I expected and made him first choice in second season, his numbers are crazy and I love to inflate them against tiny teams in Australian Cup or OFC (CL and international qualifiers) :D. I'm sure he could break every goal scoring record at both club and international level

  6. Perfect ending for a fantastic career, great timing too :D

Recently started a save in Portugal (Maritimo ftw) and it looked like a really entertaining league, with a lot of teams playing attacking football (and conceding lots of goals) and a surprisingly well balanced schedule even with two national cups. Definitely a solid choice for a save in FM 24

What's people's feelings re Saudi league'd madness being added in? Will it be effective and a game changer? Will be a shame if we all have to download an add on for it.

I'm still hoping for a late announcement re it being added.

Tbh the quality of some middle-eastern custom files has been astonishing this year (yep I'm looking at you @themodelcitizen) so finger crossed :D

Btw I was thinking all the biggest saudi clubs have already filled their quota of foreigners and most of these players are virtually 'unmovable' due to their absurd wages. I wonder if these clubs will be actually able to make any new signings until those contracts are expired (at least in FM - irl they'd probably just buy out contracts)

  8. I promise this is my last attempt for FM 23 :D

2nd place with Maritimo (predicted 15th) in Portugal, always using the original 3241 Pep

Massively overachieved and could have won the league with a bit of luck though actually spent most of the season in 3rd place before Sporting collapsed in the last month. Led the league in goals scored (94)  while defence was also surprisingly solid (25 goals allowed)

    ClubeSportMartimo_Overview.thumb.png.fb22fc4f1afc86d50da9c1b602f0572b.png

Maritimo squad was a great fit for this tactic esp at STC and AMC's (these positions are usually the stars of this formation) I added a couple of pacy wingers (Djalo and Langa ftw) and some cheap back-ups for squad depth

    BrayanRiascos_Profile.thumb.png.fa388ffe3f7f7b795420bfa4765ccf2c.png

Bryan Riascos is fast, strong and moves decently off the ball: that's really all you want from your striker in this tactic :D 45 goals in 40 apps including 30 in 32 in the league (european golden boot) were an excellent return esp as he didn't take penalties (went 0/2) and wasn't main target for corners. Goals/xG ratio was also ok but not specacular (as it often happens with better strikers). Might try to finish the Mbappé/PSG experiment and see if he can get to 100 goals in a season!

Mind if I ask more about this because you wouldn't have had access to continental competitions back then?

It was CM 2003-04 so it's been a while and I don't remember exactly though I'm sure Australia was still in OFC so I guess all clubs in the NSL (from both Australia and NZ) would reguarly qualify for OFC continental competitions. Btw I also remember that for maybe a couple of FM editions Phoenix were eliglible for AFC competitions as their status was unclear IRL and FM treated them as a regular A-League club.

Little irrelevant/off topic but wanted to celebrate somewhere, having a little test run with my edits as well as yours and I noticed that the club based in my city (Ipswich), and who I plan on managing had back to back promotions to the top tier. Albeit on view only mode but good enough for me. Funny part is they didn't win the title once

Looks like a great file where can I find it :D

  11. Barring some terrible hidden attributes (i.e. consistency, big matches, injury proneness) I definitely prefer Drage, he has good attributes in the right places, better personality and at 21 should have room for solid improvement. Donnum also not the most desirable team leader with his balanced personality so I'd just sell him and start Drage :D

Going to start a new save with PSG

You can go for elite players then :D

I'd say Mbappé STC, Neymar AMCR and Messi AMCL are ideal for this tactic. I'd retrain Hakimi at AMR to use his excellent pace. Verratti, Fabian, Vitinha and Soler are a decent group at DM's. Marquinhos, Pembele and Mukiele are OK at CB's.

I'd look to upgrade these positions in particular (try to sell useless players on high wages to free more budget):

AML: Leroy Sané or Alphonso Davies (you can retrain Nuno Mendes as a back-up)

AMR: Kingsley Coman or Ousmane Dembele (rotation with Hakimi)

DCR/L:  Gvardiol and Diomandé (add some pace)

STC: A back-up for Mbappé. Osimhen if you have enough budget, otherwise just a cheap pacey striker (I like Beto from Udinese). Or buy Haaland and move Mbappé at AMR :D

Long term top targets to replace ageing players could be Tchouameni, Camavinga, Bellingham, Musiala for DM and AM positions.
