  1. Did they nerf goals scored in general or maybe goals from corners (both seemed really high on previous ME) or they just nerfed open play goals from strikers? Strikers didn't really score much for me (exception were tall strikers on near corner kicks) despite high number of team goals and massive overachieving. If strikers score even less on this update I'm going back to FM 23 and my favorite 3241 PEP :D

Also, nice to know people still look forward/use my file. Some extra motivation for me to work on this, given I was losing a bit of interest as I am juggle a lot more work with my day job at the moment!

I'm also looking forward to this as I've been enjoying the Canadian Megapatch for years now though I didn't want to press you with requests! Joining forces with TMC, Saintscanada and magimastermind would make for a true canadian all-star team :D

  3. Support duty for Trequartista role

With only attack duty available, current interpretation of Trequartista role might be actually closer to a 'Fantasista' than a classic Trequartista. With a support duty the old school Trequartista will mostly stay on his favourite 'trequarti' position (that's literally 'three quarters of the field', hence the name of the role in italian) using his skills and creativity to unsettle defence with first time killer balls and smart passes, mostly looking to create chances for others rather than for himself. Contrary to Enganche the Trequartista/support won't look to play with his back to the goal or hold up ball against defenders as he'd often lack strength and rely instead on his agility and higher football IQ.

Side suggestion: short name of Trequartista sould be TQ instead of T. This would maybe underline the key 'three quarters' aspect of the role.

    Attack duty for False Nine

I would really like to have an attack duty for the False Nine role. With a support duty the F9 should mostly work as playmaking forward, creating space and chances for midfielders and especially inside forwards that would become main goalscoring threats of the team. With an Attack duty the F9 will still drop deep into AM strata looking to dribble and play key passes, but will also start one-twos, sprint forward, make runs behind the defensive line, beat the offside trap and make himsfelf available for killer balls. To me the Messi role in the Barcelona/Pep days would be closer to a F9/attack interpretation. A False Nine on support isn't meant to be main scoring threat of a team imo.

  4. Catching up with the story and the progress already seems amazing. Can't help noticing that this year seems much tougher for goalscoring keepers? You got us used to crazy GK numbers :D

I'm also a fan of the media comparison thing, colombian wonderkids are always a must for my brazilian saves and the next James Rodriguez seems to be the most common comparison. I did have a next Carlos Valderrama though sadly without the hairstyle. Still waiting for the next Higuita!

  5. Two new roles for AMC position:

False Ten aka limited shadow striker

With current player instructions (including Dribble More and Take More Risks) Shadow striker is a great role for a superstar AM/ST type though I'd suggest to add a more limited AMC/attack role similar to a central Ramdeuter for less creative archetypes.

Usually operating behind a False Nine or a supporting striker, the False Ten will work hard off the ball, make vertical runs and act as a primary target for through balls and more direct passes. On the ball he will play short simple passes and dribble rarely leaving playmaking duties to more creative teammates (including the supporting striker). When defending the False Ten will help the striker(s) pressing opposition defenders and defensive midfielders. This role would be best performed by hard working midfielders with a DM/box-to-box/ball winner background. Real life examples: Simone Perrotta (Roma 2006-2010), Radja Nainggolan (Roma 2015-2020), Antonio Nocerino (Milan 2011-2012)

Withdrawn/Deep Target Forward (unfortunately the Wide Target Forward has same initials :D)

I believe this role has already been requested in the past. Basically a Target Forward in AMC position, a common example was the Marouane Fellaini role at Everton and Manchester United, or more recently Wout Weghorst under Erik ten Hag. The Deep Target Forward will use his athleticism and physicality in the AM strata, playing with his back to the goal, competing with opposing players for headers, flick ons, and aerial balls while opening spaces for the striker or other attackers. Support and attack duty same as TF.

  6. The Carrilero role doesn't seem to be very popular in FM despite its potential and unique hard coded behaviour. I think the name and description of the role are part of the problem, btw I'm pretty sure carrilero really means 'full back' in spanish so not the best choice in first place imo. To me, this role should be a Mezzala on Defend duty which convenientely is not present in FM at the moment. Think of Mezzala/defend as a wide ball-winning midfielder in a midfield trio (Gennaro Gattuso in Milan's 4321 could be a good example).

Suggestion: rebrand Carrilero as Mezzala on defend duty. With a defend duty the Mezzala will protect lateral areas of the pitch and cover for attacking full backs, wingbacks and wide attackers as he 'shuttles' between the lines of the midfield to provide support where needed.

  7. With the new positional rotations the Half-Back role could be revamped and offer new options. I always found this role a bit limited despite being the only role in FM that effectively replicates the popular Salida Lavolpiana mechanism. This could change adding Support and Attack duties to the role (or alternatively adding a specific player instruction for other DM roles like DLP or Regista, thus allowing them to drop deep between defenders like current HB role).

With a Support duty the Half-Back will drop deep between defenders then step into DM position as the play develops (similarly to Libero/support), looking to carry the ball through the middle and create chances from deep.

With an Attack duty the Half-Back will drop deep between defenders then move forward to AM strata as the play develops, looking to play through balls and attack the box (similarly to Volante/attack) if opportunity arises.

  8. With the new positional rotations an 'attack' duty for the Libero role could now be viable and effective. The revamped Libero/support aka the John Stones role was an excellent addition in FM 24 though one could argue this role is a bit more aggressive irl as Stones would also make the occasional forward run inside the box. Anyway we can maybe try to create new roles/duties in FM even before Pep does it irl :D

Suggestion: with an attack duty the Libero would move up to DM position in build-up before making forward runs to AM strata and even into the opposition area, similarly to Volante/attack.

Real life example: Lucas Martinez Quarta at Fiorentina usually plays as a 'regular' centre back in a back four when defending, moves up to DM strata in build up (similarly to Libero on support in FM 24) then often goes forward to AM strata and inside the penalty area. My interpretation of Libero/attack would be very similar to his current role.

  9. Can't really say I notice much difference between a Sweeper Keeper and a standard Goalkeeper in FM. Sure SK might stay a bit higher when defending, or briefly run with the ball sometimes though modern possession-based strategies might use goalkeepers in a more aggressive and risky way, and I find this impossible to recreate in FM atm.

Suggestion: with an 'Attack' duty the Sweeper Keeper will move up between defenders and play similarly to the Half Back role, becoming actively involved in the build up of the play as he works with defenders to beat opposition pressing and create chances from the back.

    Sill looking at Jesus.

Tough games so far ARGUS 352 and AM OIs.

    There's still hope :D

In my Fiorentina save the league top scorer is Lorenzo Lucca at Udinese and they play a 352. He's the only player in the league scoring at elite level (one goal per game with no penalties) while the rest of strikers are stuck at 0,5 per game so maybe the 352 can help (or maybe the 6'7 Lucca just dominates on corners). Weirdly conversion rate of most strikers across the league is through the roof (35-40%) which means strikers actually score at outrageous rate... in the few chances they get that is!

Btw I'm very much overachieving and scoring lots of goals using the 4231 TH + Wolves 31 with 18 wins in 20 games between league and cups but goals are equally spread between striker and AMC/R/L (all around 0,5 per game) and the best chances are always cutbacks from WBs and IFs for the attacking midfielders. I'm rooting for the Jesus experiment :D

I have been highly critical of SI in here, and stand by it. But I want to give kudos that a completely central tactic, such as below, is completely viable in this version. The WCBs and SVs track wide to challenge. In previous entries you'd get destroyed on the wings as nobody would step out wide to close or tackle. Its bringing me actual joy to watch it work so wonderfully well. Kudos on that front guys.

Interesting concept! In my experience wide play seems to be a bit too powerful in current ME and cutbacks from attacking wingbacks seem to be particularly effective (the number of assists of my fullbacks is insane). You solved this by removing any fullback or winger, smart play :D Will try to copy your ideas in a similar 3331 or 3313 formation in my quest for more central play and more goals for the striker btw nice signings there, would love for my beloved Fiorentina team to sign the likes of Baldanzi and Colpani irl!

Yeah, I'm seeing this to, got trouble getting even Harry Kane to score and have him 7+ ratings, while the rest of the team is scoring so easy and have good ratings. tried ton of formations

I'm afraid it's a trait of current ME regardless of tactics and formation. A big striker on near post corners should do though :D. I have tried 3430 strikerless above and the style of football seemed more enjoyable for me so will give it a go. Had lots of success in FM21 with a strikerless 41230 (and AMC scoring at very high rate :D) hopefully FM 24 can be similar.

It's weird in FM24. It looks like IF/IW/W are not crossing to the striker but cutting the ball back to the edge of the box to your CMs/IWBs just like in FM22. I guess this is SI's way to limit strikers racking up 80-90 goals a season. I also notice some odd behaviour from defenders just standing around and not tackling when an opposing player dribble straight at them. In some occasions my player will surge forward with the ball and then just stop to let opposing defender take the ball.

    It's very frustrating

Having similar experience with strikers and cutbacks, also central play and killer balls seem to have regressed quite a bit which harms quality and variety of chances (esp for the striker). Not the most enjoyable ME for my tastes atm.
