Yeah I'm not disagreeing. I'm assuming Henderson must have proved he's fit though, as otherwise JWP would absolutely have to have come. He's probably hard done to anyway tbf, even if I commented a couple days ago saying he was only gonna go if Henderson wasn't fit.
I think he'll see it a TAA or James can play in midfield if needed, but it shouldn't really be coming to that with a 26 man squad.

In fairness, we don't really have all that many options in CM with defensive abilities. Ward-Prowse could be argued to go instead of one of the RBs but he wouldn't be playing much.
This is why I found it staggering that Barry was suggesting leaving Phillips at home though, our CM depth is poor.

If it was 23 I'd possibly say no, but with 26 and his experience and leadership I don't think there's a particularly strong argument to not take him given the lack of particularly good option outside him as well.

ing at the suggestion he can play CM needs correcting as he definitely can, even if we clearly wouldn't want to be in a situation where we're playing him there.

James can play CM, was excellent there at times for Wigan. Haven't seen him play there for Chelsea but I don't watch them often enough.

By playing him in a position he's not as good in, obviously. There's absolutely no point. And you absolutely should have a back up for both, you're an injury or suspension away from making the first 11 loads weaker for absolutely no reason with what you're suggesting.

Phillips has had 3 years of Bielsaball, I don't think his endurance and stamina really need any questioning. If his injury keeps him out though then sure, but depends how much he'll miss.

Where did I say Bellingham couldn't play the role? He can, but it would be wasting him, and he's not as good at DM as Phillips is.
Bellingham should play with Phillips (or Rice), dropping Phillips and playing Bellingham at DM is completely daft especially when you've got 26 spaces.

Look at the France squad, they're taking 5 CMs total, and we're talking about taking about 8 or 9 players who can play there
So you'd cut one of the best DMs in the country to shoehorn someone in who "can do a job"? I'm sorry but no, if one of Rice or Phillips gets injured you're massively sweating on the fitness of the other because we will not be anywhere near as secure without them.
It's absolutely not having a rigid outlook at all, it's being absolutely baffled that you'd potentially leave the squad short in an important position for no reason. Of course you need versatile players, but you don't drop a player just because someone else could play there if necessary, that's nonsensical.

sorry to say, Watkins just isn't playing under any circumstance. Even if Kane and DCL get injured, Rashford is playing as striker
For me its between Phillips and JWP, and JWP brings something different from set pieces who i'd be bringing on as a sub with 10 minutes to go if we need a goal. The emergence of Bellingham has made Rice & Phillips pointless
No it hasn't
as pointed out, Rice and Phillips are DMs, Henderson and Bellingham box to box. If you drop Phillips, you're a Rice injury away from being massively weak at DM (which may happen with Phillips being injured anyway tbf but still)

Tbf in any case my argument isn't about dropping Watkins for Bamford anyway, both should be in a 33 man squad.

Only Kane has scored more goals than him, he's got plenty of assists, I can still understand not making the final 26, but a 33 man squad is absolutely ridiculous, especially naming a 4th keeper when it's obvious Ramsdale is getting cut from the squad so there's literally no point. At least if he picked Bamford he could have a closer look before making the decision.

Bamford should 100% be getting a call up in an extended squad. Maybe, maybe Jack Harrison though he has a load of competition so wouldn't be going to the euros

Some players, and managers, just get the first name treatment. Villa fans call Grealish Jack I've noticed, lots of Leeds fans call Phillips Kalvin, dunno why but I don't think we need to think all that deeply about it

Does anyone know anything about getting a reserve team? I've only got under 18s, been asking board to get an under 23s team but they just keep saying it's not the right time. We're in the PL, finances are fine, I've asked all throughout the season, not really sure when the right time will be?
