Similar to mine but I don't aim the corners anywhere in particular. I've only scored 5 goals from corners so far this season and I'm in April icon_frown.gif

@Evon - try this thread mate, it's pretty close to mine, tho ofc as mentioned i've got both my CB's on their keeper

http://community.sigames.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1519717/m/9602060673

I've just hit Jan and i'm on 15 goals from corners in all competitions (11 PL, 2 LC & 2 CL)

Rio scored 3

Vidic 6

tho ofc other players have scored from corners aswell icon_smile.gif.

My problem is that Tevez isn't scoring and Saha is :|

I bought Cavani just after the transfer window so now i've hit Jan he's just arrived. My theory was that i'd sell Saha (probably my least fave MU player IRL), but if anything it'll be Tevez i get rid of icon_frown.gif.

game too easy so you only using 10 players in a lopsided midfield? icon_razz.gif

I assume you got RAM: Ronaldo? Also assume LAM is giggs backed up by nani, and not nani backup form himself?

Hey swordsaman, same predicament here. Got an offer accepted for Marcelo but he ended up choosing Inter even though I offered wayyyyy better terms.

Cant believe I just turned down a 17.5m bid for vidic from barca. He's been immense for me this season and I didn't think he was worth just that, although a 25-30m bid would be really hard to turn down.

Anyways guys, I need some help here. I'm currently in my first season, around 20th Jan. When I first came into the club i spent like a bulk of money on youngsters, torje, saivet, wijnaldum, dalla valle, edu valle, fleck, bostock, tuia, sakho, and a few more, and I got myself Garay. I think the Garay deal was done in a rush as now I kinda regret getting him then and not having enough cash in January although I've just sold Park for 7m to zaragoza.

I have a 7m kitty atm, and I'm looking around to see who can I buy. Jeremy Menez is currently unsettled by a few clubs chasing him and I'm wondering would he be a good deal.

Plus, can anyone please enlighten me on how much transfer money do we get at the start of the 2nd season?

This is because I'm thinking of getting in these few players, maybe not all, but as many as I can:

-Matias Fernandez (replacement for scholes)

-Aguero (to rotate with tevez)

-Silva (to replace giggsy)

-a goalkeeper maybe

-a right back

-a left back

I'm also looking to sell a few players, namely saha, silvestre, fletcher (he looks good in game tho, all my coaches think he's as good as scholes =.="), oshea (might keep him cos he's quite a versatile cover), dong.

Can any of you experts here please advise me on who to sell or buy? My situation is as described above and my team is the default starting team minus park ji sung.

Thanks for reading and replying guys!

I know but in other games with the same tactic that im using now Aguero was a legend.

In my 3rd season with Arsenal he got 89 goals in 52 games using the same tactics.

Im sure he and Tevez will come good.

I have good backup for them anyway in Zarate and Saha.

I decided to accept the Man Utd job in July 2010, after a succesful spell in Italy with Juventus.

They haven't won a trophy since 2007, which I quickly put an end too.. winning the Community Shield, 3-1 against Arsenal. Arsenal have dominated the league and cups for the last 3 years in England.

With SAF already having arranged the transfers of Bojan, Dos Santos and Gareth Bale before i arrived - as their were contracts up, i feel iv got a squad capable of success.

With only three major signings made in the previous 3 years - Toulalan (33m), Guardado (14m) and A.Zapater (7m), money was available to spend. Major departures included Vidic (24m), Fletcher (15.25m), O'Shea (9.75m) and Tevez (37.5m).

On arrival i shipped out Guardado to Roma for 41m, as he didnt fit into my plans, Carrick (14m) and Hargreaves (12.25m). Then brought in Messi (42.5m Release Clause), C.Zapater (16.5m Barcelona) and M.Richards (28.5m still at Man City). Along with a couple of youngsters.

So my team looks like..

GK Foster / Vono(Promising Regen)

DR Richards / D.Simpson

DL Evra / Bale

DC Ferdinand / Pique

DC Zapata / J.Evans

MC Toulalan / A.Zapater

MC Anderson / Adjei (Ghanian Regen - incredible stats already)

AM Ronaldo / Eagles

AM Messi / Dos Santos

AM Nani / G.Assulin

ST Rooney / Bojan

So im delighted with my team. Only problem is that Bojan, Dos Santos, Anderson or Nani haven't really developed too well. Which im hoping to change!

Im playing a counter-attacking 4-2-3-1, giving my AM's free roles due to the creativity there.

Any advice/tips are welcome. Hope i didnt bore anyone too much.

Will keep you updated icon_smile.gif

Just what are people doing with my beloved Manchester United. icon_confused.gif

Started reading through this thread and could not bare any more by the time I got about 10 pages in. There can't be many easier challenges in FM08 than managing this team and being succesful. Other than the debt there is next to nothing to worry about, the squad is more than good enough at the start of the game to be challenging for all competitions and the youth and reserve teams are filled with talent for the future. Seems many feel the need to sell off the clubs best assets and buy over priced replacements with big ego's. Why sign a 26+ year old for 30+M when you can find the next star of the game and sign them for nothing.

Season 1

For the first season I was happy to go with the original squad, other than Breno who is capable of playing the odd game during his first season the other signings were all for the future. Evra for 20M was the only player sold, mainly to secure the finances for the first year.

Transfers

A selection of player profiles from those signed (5 years on).

The Rio & Vida partnership of the future. Signed for less than 500K for the pair they are just now breaking into the first team and looking solid. Randrianoelison had Dutch nationality so no permit was needed.

Randrianoelison

Nuno Carlos

Sat next to a scouser on a long flight who raved on about this kid being the next schmeichel. My scouts liked him although I am not sure if his PA and CA are set in the DB. Is ready now to replace Foster and looking solid.

Dean Bouzanis

The most costly of my signings for the future but 3.1M already is looking like money well spent. Getting bids now for this kid of 30M+ and my scouts still expect him to improve.

Sergio Mota

The first Regen I have found to ever get the wonderkid label so far in FM08 poached from Bayern for less than 500K. Is starting to figure more the last couple of seasons. I expect him to smash Bobby Charltons scoring record for the club.

Karsten Moritz

The next John O'Shea happily sits on the bench, not the best player in the squad but perfect for the bench since he is competent in just about every single position. Not sure if he has fixed CA/PA at the start and requires a 3 year spell in Antwerp.

Dor Malul

Sidnei for 2.5M turned out to be a very poor buy along with a few of the others but all in all some excellent talent for next to nothing.

We went on to win the double that first season (Prem and C/L) and were beaten in the FA Cup final. The Veterans Giggs, Neville and Scholes played a hand in the success but for me the first years is all they are good for in this game. Neville probably has more in him but I think the sooner you get their wages off the clubs books the better. Ronaldo, Rooney and Rio were 1,2 and 3 in the footballer of the year awards.

League Table

Season 2

My aim for my second season was to replace Giggs, Neville but mainly Scholes. I decided to promote Simpson in the place of Neville and to search for prospects who could step up in the years to come if he didn't cut it although he does a good job from the start. Johnny Evans was also promoted to fill in after Evra was sold to AC Milan. Aguero was the major signing at 27.5M to meet his buy out clause young and ready made to step into scholes' boots he is still to date my only major signing into my 6th season. With the system I play as with most the AMC is the key player so I didn't want to risk messing about with kids. Eagles, Pan face (Silvestre) and park were all sold off on the cheap, Silvestre and Eagles were fighting with new signings so to avoid trouble I shipped them out right away both with 50% sell on clauses. Could have held out for more for PJS but in the end I rushed it through.

Transfers

Selection of profiles.

The 2 prospects for the RB role were Mark Hanlon and Donald Ayres. Both turned out to be right on the money and are currently rotating for the position leaving Simpson out in the cold.

Most of the other Signings are still progressing in the reserves.

Another good season saw us go a step better than the previous retaining the Prem title and defending the champions league trophy, this time the League cup was added to the list also. Aguero won the Footballer of the year in his first season scoring an impressive 34 goals on the way, Ronaldo coming a close second.

League Table

Season 3

Little in the way of new signings for the season a total of 50K was all that was spent with a return of 2.1M. I was more than happy with what I had. We got the wages of Scholes, Giggs and neville off the books and I allowed Saha to leave on the cheap. He had played his part in my first two years and had managed to avoid the injurys but he wasnt getting any younger and I wanted to bring the age of the squad down. Campbell stepped up for the season to fill in and scored an impressive 27 goals in 18 starts and 13 sub appearnaces.

Transfers

The new faces are showing potential but I am still unsure how they will do, still all under 20 so time will tell.

A disapointing season really, we did win the one I always aim for the Premier League but that was about all. One of my biggest regrets was fielding a youth team in the 1st Knockout roundof the Champions League after securing a 4-1 away lead to Sevilla then watching the kids get beat 5-2 and going out on away goals. Rooney, Ronaldo and Aguero 1,2 and 3 in footballer of the year award.

League Table

Season 4

Another season with next to no transfer spending, the usual selection of promising talent was signed along with Bojan from Barcelona on a Bosman (100K per week wages). The rest was mainly in the opposite direction, Brown moved on for 2.5M he wasn't getting a game by this point and there was little point keeping him. Cathcart for some reason never improved and was sold on the cheap and Gibson grew tiresome with his constant sulking.

Transfers

Domestically it was a clean sweep of trophys winning the lot but Inter did a number on us beating us 6-2 away after a 0-0 draw in the Champions league Q/F. Ronaldo, Rooney and Aguero 1,2,3 again.

League Table

Season 5

Still happy with the squad I had which still only had an average age of 23 There were no signings made in the close season. One major departure was Carlos Tevez not getting any younger and with Bojan brought in the previous year I let him got to AT. Madrid for 5M upfront 15M over 24 months plus an additional 2.5M after 10 league goals and 2.5 after 20 Appearnaces. I made a bad signing in the Transfer window paying 9M for a defensive midfielder as a future Replacemnt for HArgreaves but he looks more like one of the Djemba twins.

A good season though winning the Prem and Champions league. With that 1,2,3 combination yet again of Rooney, Ronaldo and Aguero winning the Footballer of the year award.

League Table

Currently into my 6th season and things are going well I have 9 of the England U21 starting line up in my squad and 7 of the U19 squad. The clubs finances are in excellent condition due to the fact I have spent nothing net in 6 years, leaving me a 150M transfer kitty if needed.

|You Probably won't get more than 30M to spend in your second season sepending how you did the previous year. For the fullbacks I would look to Simpson and Evans both are more than good enough to do well in those roles. Silva is class but you will probably need 50+ to get him unless your lucky (62M buy out clause I think). I would go for Aguero but use him as an AMC playmaker not a Striker or a target man.

Are you looking for a GK for the future or one to go straight in. Francisco Guillermo Ochoa is a good option and usually available for a decent price early on. Saviet, Ochoa and Aguero would be my recomendations and promote Evans and Simpson.

If you really want Silva or that type of player then look to Messi instead, he will have a lower buy out clause.

You may seriously want to consider restarting, Evra is one of the best LB's in the game and 6m is very very low.

There's an excellent post on ~p36 which pretty much explains starting a game with manu - i'll post a link after this post.

In general the ppl you'll need to replace within 1-2 seasons are:

Giggs

Scholes

G Neville

VDS

And as Manu really aren't that rich - unless u win several competitions - you should prioritise these replacements before going for the fun big names.

For Neville - M RIchards & D Alves (both really need unsettling to drive the price down), Rafinha, Leyrielton, C Samba, De Silvestri plus more i'm sure.

For VDS - Akinfeev, Lloris, Ochoa, Kameni, Bouzanis, Grohe, Costil, Riou, that said, Foster from the reserves can be good once he's uninjured.

I thought it would be worthwhile to do a guide to starting a new Man Utd game. This will give everyone an idea of how to go about a new game and the main things to get sorted before the season gets underway. Let's begin with the current team and see how that shapes up:

Initial Squad

If you want to have at least one season with just the current squad, which is probably a decent challenge and saves you some time in the transfer market, then what team should you be using?

Well, the Man Utd squad at the start has a very good depth to it and plenty of cover for every position except for strikers. That said, the best team to choose based on a 4-4-2 for simplicity is probably:

Van der Sar

Neville Vidic Ferdinand Evra

Ronaldo Hargreaves Anderson Giggs

Rooney Tevez

I personally use a 4-4-1-1 (or 4-2-3-1 in attacking versions) as the lone ST exploits space well and with Rooney and Tevez you can use them both and have them swapping positions.

In my opinion the rest of the squad is more than capable to fill in in times of injury, poor form or rotation. Kuszczak, Brown, O'Shea, Pique, Silvestre, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Scholes, Martin and Saha are good players too. The youth players such as Jonny Evans, Danny Simpson, Richie Jones, Darron Gibson, Chris Eagles, Dong Fangzhuo and Fraizer Campbell are also good enough to fill in if needed.

Transfers

The initial squad is full of quality and easily capable of winning the league at least as well as being able to progress far in the cups. However, we get around £10m to spend at the start and we might as well use it. Mainly the squad needs another striker, but what players are expendable that we can ship out? The following players can be sold (some with approximate prices):

- Thomasz Kuszczak

- Phillip Bardsley, £2.5m

- John O'Shea, £5m

- Darren Fletcher, £8.5m

- Chris Eagles

- Louis Saha, £8m

- Park, £7.5m (more likely in January)

Selling Saha is not really advised unless you're using a formation with a single ST. Likewise with Kuszczak - his stats are only average but does a good job as a backup. You can sell him if you can buy a decent young keeper on the cheap. Foster is a good keeper but is injured until March, so it's probably best to keep Kuszczak for the first season. I use a 4-4-1-1 and kept Saha but the AMC is more of a forward than a midfielder. Fletcher is another good player, so only sell him if you buy a midfielder. So who to buy?

Keepers: Lloris, Ochoa, Ustari, Riou, Grohe.

Defenders: Cassani, Sakho (free), Breno (£7m), Barzagli (£7m), De Silvestri.

Midfielders: Banega (£3m), Van der Vaart (£13m), Matias Fernandez (£10m).

Forwards: Amauri (£10m), Aguero, Owen, Pandev (£15m), Ashton (£11m), Adriano (loan), Bojan (loan).

Obviously, you're not going to be able to afford all of them unless you sold Ronaldo and Rooney. Some of those players you might be able to get very cheap or on a free, which is fine, but save your money for a striker, so more on them:

What type of striker do you want? If you're after a target man then Amauri seems a very good option as he's also got the abilities to play as a quick ST. Dean Ashton has good qualities and isn't expensive as well as keeping the team more English. For quick strikers, then unsettling the likes of Aguero or Owen will be well worth it. If you use money elsewhere, then loaning Adriano or Bojan is also worthwhile.

As for me, I signed Matias Fernandez as he has the versatility to play on both wings, in centre midfield and also upfront, although he'll need to be retrained on the right wing and at FC. At £10m he is an absolute bargain and I cannot recommend him enough. He was the only senior player I signed at the start and has been one of my best players. He is a must to sign in my opinion and doesn't even need unsettling to get the price down to £10m icon14.gif

Other Youth players to buy for the future:

Saivet, Stancu, Kroos, Torje, Vela.

Coaches

You always need to sort out the coaches at the start of the game, so here's which initial coaches should do what training:

- Queiroz: Defending, 7 stars

- Dempsey (promote from youth coach): Ball Control, 7 stars

- Meulensteen: Shooting, 7 stars

- Coton, Hartis: Goalkeeping, 7 stars

- Harrison: Set Pieces, 6 stars (Cannot find any 7 star set piece coach in the game!)

So you need to buy other coaches to fill the rest of the training. There are usually some very good regen coaches at the start which should provide you with a cheap 7 star trainer if you're lucky and one is my 7 star tactics coach, but I've also found:

- Aroso, Duverne: Fitness, 7 stars.

- Steve Burns: Attacking, 7 stars.

I think that's all. If there's anything glaring that anyone wants to add, then shout up. Please refer new people to this when they start a new game and ask for "who to sign/sell etc".

as promised ^

If you're going to sell Evra for £6m you may as well give up now. He is the best left back in the game. Nobody can match his defensive and offensive skills. And the edited version of that guide is better. More accurate prices and more players icon14.gif
