  2. Anyone else playing as Merthyr? If so did you seem to get better than average youngsters coming through in the early seasons?
  3. Scott Spencer - Merthyr Tydfil : The Martyrs - Season 1 and 2 Update It's time for my first update. Really enjoying my time as manager of Merthyr! Season 1 League Table Squad We left it until the last game to secure our spot in the play-offs and managed to gain promotion beating Dover 3-2 in extra time in the final. Our main problem this season was finding the right tactic, I changed things around on numerous occasions and it made for a very inconsistent season. In terms of transfer activity I changed the majority of the team around, bringing in a host of Scottish youngsters on free transfers. JoJo Connolly was the stand out performer from midfield, coming up with 10 goals and 12 assists, while Grant Gallacher had a solid season at the back. We managed to snap up Paris Cowan-Hall just before the play-off final in preperation for next season which is a positive move. Didn't have much luck in the cups, with nothing noticeable to note. The board was taken over towards the end of the season and despite initial reports stating that I was to be replaced by another manager, I managed to hold on the job and the board are delighted with promotion. Main Aims for Season 2 Develop a consistent tactic. Bring in a more determined and experienced CM. Tighten things up in defence. Season 2 League Table Squad I spent a lot of time in pre-season working on our tactics, trying out a host of formations. I finally settled on a 4-2-3-1, using two CM's and two wingers. After spendingwatching a few friendlies in depth and changing the settings around to find the best match for our players I was finally confident that we were going to have a good season. We exceeded expectations, finishing first in the league. We didn't start as we'd have liked, three draws and a loss in our opening three fixtures, however, once we got to December we went on a run of 8 straight wins in the league to put us in contention. A solid period over new year followed by another stunning run of performances in February put us in second position. With Burton suffering mixed form we managed to take top spot with 6 games to go and didn't look back. Tactically we were spot on and I firmly believe that its one of the best I've ever made in my FM career! The main reason for our strong season was down to two boys who came through the academy. Dylan Wheeler was an absolute rock at the back, notching up some important goals and assists. He could do it all, and was deservedly crowned our player of the year. Ian Walters came through at the same time and tore defences to pieces from the right wing. It took some time to retrain him as an AMR but he's been a true revelation. Sunderland and a host of Championship teams were sniffing around them for the whole season but thus far i've managed to keep hold of them, I really think they could go down as true legends at the club. I've also got to give credit to our free summer signing Jimmy Ryan in midfield. He was fantastic, notching up 14 goals and really was the heart and soul of our team, giving his all in every appearance. In the FA Cup we made the second round after some great performances. We were drawn away at Peterborough, flying high in the Championship. Incredibly we achieved a 1-1 draw and brough them back to Penydarren Park for a replay. They did however prove too strong and blew us away 3-1, although the deserved to win by a bigger margain. Still, a good all-round performace and a decent bit of money earned. Main Aims for Season 3 Strengthen the team with free signings. Sell some of our mediocre players to generate some money. Get our finances back into positive figures. 4. Hi guys, i'm going to have a go at this challenge. Haven't done it before, done a bit of LLM management but im pretty inexperienced. Here's my profile - Scott Spencer As im from Wales I thought the natural choice was to go for Merthyr. I'm about half way through my season so i'll post an update once i'm done.
  5. Best i've come across in England are.. Arsenal H.Lansbury J.Wilshere R.Murphy Man City M.Johnson J.Hart N.Onouha M.Richards
  6. He wasn't intrested with me at first but after a week or so had gone once the window had opened.. he became interested and signed on a Key Player status.
  7. Got a bit of time this morning to play.. finally Almost finished up to the end of the transfer window in season 2 so update to follow
  8. Still in the transfer window before my start to league two. Made some really good aquisitions but im still struggling to find.. -A good all round CM -A RB Any ideas?
  9. Hehe.. I was aware of it but i favoured resting my players for the last 2 games ready for the FA Trophy final rather than going for it Plus it seems right that the creator of the Oxford craze holds the record!
  10. End of Season One.. and the U's are back in the football league!! Well.. What a first season it's been. League We strolled through the league, rarely getting out of first gear. My 4-4-2 provided to be a solid base. We dropped a few points in the last couple of games due to me resting players. With us confirmed as champions.. my focus went on the two cups. Here's the 'Final Table' FA Cup We met Reading in the third round at the Madjeski Stadium. After going down 1-0, Ebanks-Blake equalised and we went on to hit the bar in the 83rd minute before having our hearts broken, with Reading scoring in the 90th minute. A good display which deserved an least a replay. Setanta Shield We had a fairly straight-forward run up to the Semi-finals, where we met York. After winning the first leg at home, 2-0, they raced ahead in the second leg 1-0 inside 3mins. However, we did managed to equalise through R.Murphy, on loan from Arsenal for 3months. It ended 2-1 to us and Aldershot awaited us in the Final.. which we gave a highly unimpressive performance but snuck a 1-0 win, sub J.Legister scoring. FA Trophy Again, not too much trouble here. Stevenage proved to be the trickiest tie in the fourth round. We were locked at 0-0 until the 93rd minute where Ebanks-Blake scored a stunning 30yd strike to send us through! We faced Stafford in the Final. We won 2-1, goals from Ebanks-Blake and Balde, they are fantastic upfront together. Players Ebanks-Blake was amazing, scoring 45 goals in 46 games (31 in the league). Emil was also fantastic. 15 Assists and 6 Goals. R.Nylen chipped in with an amazing 20 assists despite not being classified as a first team starter. Nordtveit was a rock at the back, will do my upmost to take him on loan again, next season. Here's my 'Squad Overview'' *Lansbury and R.Murphy came on short-term loans and went back to Arsenal with Oxford on their favoured clubs list. Great news for the future! Overall Really happy with my first season. Will have to make some improvements next year but on the whole the squad is strong. A GK, LB, CM, ST are all required and hopefully my loanee's will be available for another term at the Kassam Stadium in League Two. Oh .. I'm already turning down job offers left, right and centre, which pleases the board when i deny my intrest so i suppose it's a good thing. Advice and reccomendations would be greatly appreciated, thanks
  11. Nice mate ^^^ Iv just won promotion to League Two. Update to follow
  12. Nice Did you sign him permanently? And if so.. how much did he cost you, in which season?? He's been doing great for me too. In my first season he has 43 goals in 43 games overall and 31 in the league.
  13. Does everyone expect back-to-back promotions on this thread? I mean, i would be highly suprised if i managed to all the way to the premiership. Im confident il make it through League Two next year but after that who knows!
