Stuniverse
Sunday 17th March 2024 Derby County (1st - League One) v Sheffield United (20th - Premier) FA Cup Sixth Round -- Team Selection -- Substitutions -- Final Score: Derby County 2-2 Sheffield United a.e.t. Sheffield United won 4-3 on penalties -- Manager Reaction 22 minutes and Conor Hourihane gave us the lead with a volley after Anel Ahmedhodzic's headed clearance fell to him. Five minutes later, Sheffield United came close when Cameron Archer's long-range shot hit the bar and went over. And then, Conor Washington hit the post for us. Just before half-time, after good work by Andre Ayew, Ryan Nyambe chipped the ball over Sheffield United's backline into the path of Conor Washington to score on the half-volley. 68 minutes, Sonny Bradley headed Kane Wilson's corner against the far post. On 82 minutes Sheffield United grabbed a lifeline. Gustavo Hamer hit a piledriver from outside the penalty area, Joe Wildsmith got both hands to it but couldn't keep the ball out of the net. In added-on time, Bene Traore sent a low cross into the six-yard box and Yasser Larouci prodded it over the line. We both had chances to win it in extra-time but couldn't score. And so it went to the lottery of penalties. Louie Sibley and Sonny Bradley feel bad for missing but I'm proud of them for being brave enough to stand-up and be counted by taking one of the penalties. -- League One News Following yesterday's League One games... Stuniverse
Episode 11 - April 2024 "Remaining Fixtures" With Conor Hourihane and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing still refusing to enter into contract renewal negotiations, I decided not to select them in the remaining games of the season. I also decided to give young players from our Academy playing opportunities in the final few games of the season which, unfortunately, means Manchester City loanee Oscar Bobb may not feature too much either. Derby County 4-2 Leyton Orient -- Wycombe Wanderers 0-2 Derby County -- Cambridge United 0-1 Derby County -- Derby County 3-0 Carlisle United For our final game of the season, I decided to let the Rams fans give the team and squad that had done the double (League One and EFL Trophy) a send-off the players deserved. Stuniverse
Until Next Time… As I mentioned in the original post on this thread, this Derby County save was intended to be a short-term save ahead of me starting my main, long-term FM24 save which will be based in Norway and Scandinavia. I may well be back to continue this save, at some point, managing Derby County for Season 2 (2024/25) but, in the meantime, my Norwegian (Scandinavian) save will start within the next few days. If you've enjoyed this Career Update, I hope you'll join me in Norway here... -- Any questions... Thoughts, comments, general feedback appreciated. maxjam
Congrats on promotion at the first attempt and completing the lower league double by also winning the FLT 5-0! Interestingly Portsmouth were my nearest league rivals in 2nd place, but they just missed out on the play-offs in yours. Off the top of my head the bottom four look very similar. We also received a similar youth intake of 2 elites and 6 top prospects. Good to see you sticking with the original Derby squad, I went down the wheeler-dealer route banking on achieving promotion and buying some youth to blood for the Championship. My top sale being Louis Sibley to Mainz 05 for £1.1m. If and when you do decide to pick up your Derby save again you'll have to let us know how you get on prepping for season 2... Good look in Norway!

Thank you, @maxjam. The first third of the season was quite difficult with all the injuries you inherit as Derby manager at the start of the save plus the ridiculously high number of goalkeeping injuries I was getting. Fortunately, the rate of goalkeeper injuries was toned down in the minor update that was released on Monday. Once I got the close to a healthy squad, I was able to select a much more settled starting 11 and results improved building confidence, momentum and good dynamics in the squad. A couple of good signings in January also helped. 4 hours ago, maxjam said: Interestingly Portsmouth were my nearest league rivals in 2nd place, but they just missed out on the play-offs in yours. Off the top of my head the bottom four look very similar. We also received a similar youth intake of 2 elites and 6 top prospects. That’s interesting. I must admit I’m fascinated by how much things like that stay the same, or vary quite a bit, from save to save. 4 hours ago, maxjam said: Good to see you sticking with the original Derby squad, Thanks. I must admit, when I’m managing Derby, I usually only do short-term saves because I get unsettled (in a way that tends not to affect me when I manage other teams) once the squad and, more so, the starting 11 becomes different to the squad and first team in real life. 4 hours ago, maxjam said: I went down the wheeler-dealer route banking on achieving promotion and buying some youth to blood for the Championship. My top sale being Louis Sibley to Mainz 05 for £1.1m. Well done. I wish I could do that when managing Derby sometimes. I guess I’m just too attached to players I watch play in real life week-in, week-out. 4 hours ago, maxjam said: If and when you do decide to pick up your Derby save again you'll have to let us know how you get on prepping for season 2... Will do. If I continue with this save, I’ll continue updating on this thread. If not, I’m sure I’ll do another Derby save at some point. 4 hours ago, maxjam said: Good look in Norway! Thank you. That save got underway tonight and I’ve started updating that Career Update thread as well. And good luck with your own saves 🍀⚽️🤞 Thank you very much for reading and following. I really do appreciate it a lot. Edited November 19, 2023 by Stuniverse
