Mahr
Do I have to keep Steam running if I choose to buy the game via Steam? I like to not let everyone know how long I've played and so forth - it's nobody's business really; and Steam tends to track that sort of thing. Can I for example dl/install/patch via steam and then uninstall steam?
BayernMB
You don't have to keep it running... I think you should be able to do that...
Quackje
You can hide your profile on steam if you are so concerned...
BayernMB
But you don't have to be running Steam... you don't have to be online...
Scott McC
Steam can run in offline mode. I'm not sure if it'll still track how long you've played, but Quackje says you can hide your profile. If you're buying it from Steam then I imagine you have to have it running in some form to play the game.
turnip
No, you don't have to be online, but you do have to be running Steam. Steam has an 'Offline Mode'. BUT, most Steam applications will only launch via Steam and you'll probably have no luck trying to run the game without it.

Carradona
If you launch the game from steam, it has to be running. If you launch it directly from fm.exe, it doesnt. I think
Eduardo
When you install via Steam it asks you if you want a desktop shortcut... the game can be launched directly from the desktop icon but Steam still needs to be running in your taskbar. By default, unless you delete the startup entry - steam app should already be running. If you try to shutdown Steam app... game closes too.
guiza
i dont know about full installation but demo works at least by going on "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\football manager 2009 demo" folder and clicking on fm.exe. By this way you dont need to run steam even in offline mode. I expect same to happen on full installation though.
Mahr
You can hide your profile on steam if you are so concerned... Only because of the 'insane' amount of hours I put into the -08 version. The same is queued up to happen with -09, I can feel it.
BayernMB
I think it was mentioned somewhere that you don't have to run Steam...
