Help with my tactic

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm having a nightmare at the moment in the Skrill South, my team just can not put a run of wins together, or draws for that matter.

I thought, as it was lower league, I would go for a fairly simple tactic, nothing to adventurous, but there seems to be something majorly wrong.

Looking at most match stats I'm not getting many chances at goal and the ones I do get are often not finished.

Looking at my tactic can anyone see where I'm going wrong?

I'm happy to take any advice, even if it means changing the formation all together.

That's not simple/cautious, that's downright catenaccio :p

You have 1 player that's not standing still, watching the ball go by and that's your MCR. You have too many defending duties, mixed with support duties at the wrong spots.

-defence: they're all set to limited so they will not even try to,play football. They win the ball, kick it a mile forward and say "there, it's your problem now".

-midfield: all on support means that they are pretty much static (just like your defence). No one will be able to link play and your lines will be detached from one another.

-attack: your AF will be feeling like Akon ft. the Lonely Island: very Mr. Lonely.

My advice would be to have a look at the stickies :)

Ah, that will explain the lack of chances...

The reason I gave my defence Limited roles is the only players I can attract specialise in the limited form of their position. They are given 2* for Central Defender but 4* for limited defender.

My midfielders have a bit more skill and would ideally be the players that my defence play it out to.

My main worry is that I created this formation after reading the stickies- I must have interpreted some (most) of it wrong.

Not much wrong with that.

I'd argue that there's no value in having "Automatic" Duties - they are dictated by your Mentality so your Automatic guys default to Support on your Mentality.

In addition, keep an eye on the gap between your defence and midfield when you are attacking. The DLP on Support will join in with attacks, so if you play sides with AM line players, you could be stretched when your attacks break down.

A quick update, incase anyone's interested.

My team had a real turn in fortune after altering my tactic. I noticed my DLP and CM(D) were often occupying the same space so I changed the CDM to a BWM and the CM(d) to a DLP(s), works a treat now.

Having won promotion through the playoffs to the Skrill Prem I'm now coming up against teams that have a lot more quality than me so I'm trying to create a more counter attacking plan B tactic.

A follow up question:

I've noticed I'm conceding a lot of goals from through balls fed to wide man through the gap between a CB and FB on whichever side.

The FBs are usually slightly further forward than the CBs and the space made is often utilised by my opposition.

What would be my best bet to stop this?
