The Substitute Keeper

Recommended Posts

I usually have a keeper, a defender, a midfielder and 2 strikers. My theory is that i want to balance the bench with more attacking players because if i need to change the game then I have the option to do that. If someone is injured I have cover for all areas of the pitch and there is probably some way to organise the players in the back four to play ok for the rest of 1 game.

yes i always keep a sub keeper, and my decision was vindicated hugely in FM07 once:

Jens Lehmann got injured 2 days before my final day of the season, must-win game away to chelsea. Almunia gets injured in the 3rd minute, thus Vito Mannone has to play in goal for me, and then 10 days later in the champions league final. can you imagine having a chance against chelsea with no keeper?

Yes in FM08 i have lost keepers to injury and red cards before, enough times to always keep a sub keeper, i have at least 5 subs so its little excuse not to, i can cover every single position pretty much.

Normal breakdown of subs:

(5) - GK - DC - MC(/DM) - MR/L - ST

(7) - GK - DC - FB - DM/MC - (A)MR/L - ST - ST
