Fm 2012 best tactics testing thread

Hi all. I have always been a silent reader all this time. Think it's time for me to contribute something.

I know it's a bit early and not a lot of tactic has been out there but I will do this. And update this gradually as more great tactics are up.

I will use a tactic on a team, and then go on holiday for a season, with 'Use current tactic' ticked on. Pretty simple.

I've selected some of the best performing tactic here and over at FM-Base.

Green is tactic popular on both sites, Red is popular on FM-Base, Blue is popular in SI

Yes I know 'Go On Holiday' isn't the best way to test a tactic, but it certainly the most efficient one and most useful for people who just want to plug n play.

At the end of the season, I will post how that tactic performs.

So far, I can only think of three things to post:

1. League table

2. Team 'Selection info' Stats. (Apps, Goals, Assist, MoM, Rating, etc)

3. Team Report 'Goal Analysis'

Most testers will just test on 1 team, I'm going to test each tactic on 4 teams.

So that's 1 tactic, tested 4 times, on 4 different level of teams.

1. Demi-Gods of FC Barcelona

2. Genuine Title Contender in Napoli

3. Your Average Joe Team Hoffenheim

4. Lower League Team AFC Wimbledon.

This may seem confusing, but a picture speaks a thousand words.

So, I will just show three pictures as an example how the testing report will be like

Played : 39

Wins : 16

Draws : 8

Lose : 15

Goals / Shot on Target / Total Shot : 58 / 217 / 540

Conceded : 53

Goals / Game : 1.48 goals/game

Pass Suceeded / Attempt per game : 223 / 303

Best Player : Ryan Babel [ML] (12 Goals, 7 Assists, Av Rat 7.30)

Competition : 14th in League, German Cup Final

And then a ranking will be kept for each team which tactic performs the best and the overall best performing tactic. Well it gets clearer when I get things done

Yes I know 'Go On Holiday' isn't the best way to test a tactic, but it certainly the most efficient one and most useful for people who just want to plug n play.

Actually it's no way to test a tactic at all. Even though the AssMan will start out with your tactic he will always change the tactic during games to his preferred style.

On top of that no season is comparable with each other factors like injuries, bad run of form and a moral sink can influence the outcome of a season in far greater scale then the quality of a tactic.

If you have the time and nothing better to do you can still test it but you can be certain that the the more refined your tests become the more and more you will see the results getting more and more similar. For example if you would test every tactic with the same team each for 5 season you may see some variance but as soon as you go to 20-50 test season those will vanish.

The influence of tactics on the outcome of a season is about 10% imo and you won't really notice it if you test it over a long enough period.

That being said if you have fun doing it go ahead.

Thank you for the comment I know there are a lot of factors that hinders this being the most effective method to test a tactic. But as I said this is only an time-efficient way.

Soon enough some person is going to do it anyway, so I thought I'd start early so that things doesn't pile up

and at the same doing something a bit more comprehensive compared to others before.

If somehow there are a lot of willing support in this thread maybe in the future, we all can do something more accurate like actually playing during the match day for a season and using commentary only on full speed.

Eliminate all variable factors such as subs etc.

But for now since I'm doing this alone thought I'll just doing it something a bit simpler.

Sorry to discourage you, but testing tactics on holiday is really useless. I have made testes myself and came to that conclusion, and many other people here have said the same. And in the end, the results will be random, and you could end up discouraging people from using the tactics that randomly produces the worst results. For sure all of those tactics have their merits, and it's hard to say that one is better than the other, as that could depend on the strenght of your team, the country you are playing in, the formations and styles you are facing, etc. And for some people, a tactic that produces more realistic football may be better than one that exploits the ME, even if the results are not so spetacular...
