stabwest Posted April 1, 2012 Author Share Posted April 1, 2012 After spenting the past seven seasons shifting between the Premier and Championship we finally managed to stay up and finish a respectable 14th in the Premier, spending a massive FIVE thousandpounds on a player that was later sold to Valencia for £2m+ without playing a single game......although its still unclear why Valencia where so keen to have him, neverless £2m I won't knock that back. still trying to build a club without much backing from the board in the way of financial, as you can see its all free transfers in....with Sanders being the big name signing after being released from West Ham, the Dutch international striker finished with 9 goals Henderson and Baudry both signed as covering full backs, both have since became 1st team regulars with Oliveira taking up the centre back role. Zygouris and Anyona both strikers, have limited EPL experience but with lack of funds to attract the right calibra of player too the club, one must do what one has too. I had no concerns over the cups, as they would hold us back at this moment in time, as we're not a established club and staying up with the view of coming a established club in the EPL is my only priority. Nautico Posted April 1, 2012 Share Posted April 1, 2012 Expectations were demanding at Bayern for the forthcoming season, first place was the target set by the board but after last season was a bit too much for now.. With that Stevens went out and spent £140 million on transfers. The season began ok-ish and after last season it wasnt what i was expecting from this team and to be honest it wasnt something to be proud of. Bayern this seaseon round would be playing european football in the EURO Cup and were drawn to scottish club Motherwell, a 1-1 draw in the first leg just wasnt good enough in my eyes. Then second leg of the cup tie was all Motherwell with them taking a shock 2-0 lead into half time, and with Bayern only managing to pull 1 back it just wasnt enough coming from this team. In the end i walked..goodbye Bayern. Now that Stevens had plenty of time on his hands he decided to take as much time as possible to practice his golf game. Now it wasnt anywhere sunny it was his back garden.. a few windows were sacrificed in his search for the perfect game. A few applications were made to clubs needing a new manager but nobody got back ;( Desperate for a job Stevens fell down a divison to take over at Cardiff. Cardiff were really struggling in the championship but it was going to be a challenge, the team had some good games and some very bad ones. However 2 rays of light appeared over the Cardiff City Stadium.. Ian Abbott a former youth player at Liverpool and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney who even at the age of 37 was still able to bang quite a few goals in. In the end it was all looking very bad for Cardiff looking down the bottom of the barrell and in the relegation zone, Stevens felt that he should walk away from the club and then waltzed straight into the Peterborough job. Keeping this one quiet Stevens quickly moved into the Posh job hours after resigning from Cardiff, Peterborough themselves were in a relegation battle but were doing alot better than the Bluebirds underachieving with a media prediction of 4th. 1st game in was a tough one with a 2-2 draw with Colchester in a game that was looking like a first win at the Posh until 10 minutes from the end. As the end of the season approached Peterborough were sitting around mid-table and with Stevens now looking to move on and into next season a squad clearout was needed to improve. Fernando Davis Posted April 1, 2012 Share Posted April 1, 2012 Season Overview: The new season started off well with some good solid performances in the league and in the Europa League. In Europe we eased past the qualifying round against Russian side Minsk 2-0 on aggregate and was drawn in the group stages along side Shakhter Soligorsk, Dnipro and Braga. We struggled for form in the league in the final few weeks as players became tired with all the midweek matches and injuries began to creep into the squad, we finished a disappointing 5th in the table and missed out on a Champions League spot once again. The board was not happy but had said that performances in the Spanish Cup and in Europe had been great for the club and for the fans and was looking forward to next season. We would have to do a little rebuilding in the summer and I hope the board can match my ambitions and give me the money to bring in the best talent we could find to improve the squad. He would face the task of keeping Doncaster in the Blue Square North with a -10 points deduction. This was gonna be a tough task for manager Kieran O'Malley as the club was also placed under a transfer embargo and did not come out of it until the end of July after some generosity from Valencia boss Neil Davis. Doncaster's feeder team Crystal Palace managed by Andy O'Malley sent the club 3 of his brightest prospects on loan for a full season. The club then brought it 16 new signings once out of the transfer embargo pick of the bunch being top scorer Scott Smith, Czech striker Miroslav Besta and Gambian midfielder Ebrahima Badjie . The season started off quite badly with the team needing to get back to plus points as soon as possible with Donny losing 7 games on the bounce a lot of them by the odd goal and with first team keeper Donald Sutherland injured manager Kieran O'Malley was forced into signing any keeper that would join him which caused him problems. The breakthrough of the season came against Stockport who sat 4th in the league only to see there side crumble to a 4-0 defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium thanks to a brace from Summer signing Scott Smith. Doncaster then faced Southport who were defeated 3-0 thanks to goals from Scott Smith (7th of the season) Doyle Middleton and Palace loanee Brian Paterson. An early exit from the FA Cup after a 4-2 defeat away at Altrincham which disappointed manager Kieran O'Malley who was hoping for a cup run to garner some income to reduce the clubs loan debt. Doncaster will be hoping to carry on there good League form and get there season on track with 2 more wins to put the club into plus points and hopefully climb up the league! Thats what the fans sang as we lifted the La Liga title by just 2 points, all season we were trailing the holders Real Madrid and we managed to steal 1st place away after a Monday night game against Barcelona at home. We smashed Barcelona 5-1 to go top with 1 game to go, the game had originally been scheduled for September but due to playing in the Europa League and Spanish Cup the game had to be played on a Monday and squeezed in-between a Saturday league game and a midweek cup final against At. Madrid in the Europa League. We wrapped up the title at home in the final game against R. Sociedad 3-1. Final Fixtures: It was a hard end of season fixture list with tough game against Barcelona twice and and also the Europa League and Cup ties but we managed to come away with the League title and the Europa League Trophy after our 5-2 win against recently relegated At. Mardrid. Next season will be Champions League and we will be strengthening the team in the summer to make sure we are well prepared for the new campaign. Final League Table: The final table shows Valencia as Champions by just 2 points and scoring an amazing 107 goals on the way to the title. League Posistions: After a shakey start to the season we managed to find some form and sneaked into 1st place with just 1 game to play. and it was heartbreak for poor Foth as he blew the title in the game against me. We won 3-1 at home and I later heard after the press conference that the Real Madrid manager was fuming about his own choice of tactics during the game, if a manager doesn't have the faith in his own abilities then he should not be at a top club like Real Madrid. Next season I am hoping to still be here at Valencia but there is circulating rumours that are linking me with a move back to England... We shall see.... Nautico Posted April 11, 2012 Share Posted April 11, 2012 There and Back again, Craig Stevens' journey its been a little journey off the radar of the 'top leagues' for Stevens but this was a Peterborough team that after last seasons disappointing go around needed to be shaken up from top to bottom and it was. Most of the failures from the previous season found themselves heading out of London Road and heading off to pastures new in the mass cull, this helped to raise some funds but not enough to get a few other signings but most of the key ones were made. The season began quite well with results going our way and looking pretty good in and around the play off places in the Championship, the new players had found themselves working in harmony with the surviving members of the cull at London Road and were performing on a regular consistant basis. With all of the great results coming through for Peterborough the Posh fans were ecstatic when the club had reached 1st place after only 17 games, the Posh went on to stay top of the Championship all season after that and managed to stay around 12-15 points ahead of 2nd place for the remainder of the season too. Not bad for a complete new team who were left with a media prediction of 17th. Cup wise it was another brilliant run for Stevens at a small Club with Peterborough reaching the FA Cup semi finals and losing to Manchester United and losing the League cup semi to Tottenham(pre O'Malley) so i cant complain with that as The Posh were a little bit in debt at the time but the cup runs helped push the clubs finances back into the black. The Championship Title was secured with results going our way even though we lost to Preston at the time 2-1. Andy1979 Posted April 15, 2012 Share Posted April 15, 2012 After winning the championship title Crystal Palace were back in to Promised Land of the premier league again. It has been a long time in coming and fans and chairman alike could not believe it. It has come as a shock to the media pundits who had palace down to finish in the play-offs at best. The truth is though they never looked in danger of losing it leading form start to finish. Manager Andy O’Malley had made some shrewd free transfers and loan singing. How long they will hang on to these youngsters’ remains to be seen but the future is looking bright with the average age down to 22. The manager himself is been linked to bigger jobs, one being Chelsea once a major force in the game but now find themselves struggling to finish top half. Could that persuade O’Malley to leave remains to be seen? On another note, the club is in great shape compared to when he took over and is now making a profit every year and we have seen the youth set up upgraded and plans a foot for the training ground as well. Palace will be everyone’s favourites to go down, anything better than 3rd bottom will be seen as a huge success and will gain the manager more rep. Once again starved of any real funds to strengthen the team, I was left with no choice but to plunge into the transfer market for frees, but at the same time helping to keep the books balanced, with 6m coming in did help to keep the club afloat for awhile and a loan from the board helped to tie things over to the end of the season. After a poor start to the season we finally picked up our 1st win at Huddersfield mid Sept but our season didn’t really kick-start until late Oct with wins over Everton, Sheff Wed, Chelsea and our biggest win of the season 5-0 thrashing of Blackburn. Only our bad form at the end of the season saw us finish 8th one point away from Europe. Over-all moving in the right direction with surely my step is EUROPE!! Andy1979 Posted April 21, 2012 Share Posted April 21, 2012 After all the party’s that took place after clinching promotion back to the premier the hard work begun to build a squad capable of staying up. We had been given a transfer kitty of 30 million and O’Malley wasted no time in spending it. In came a 21 year old left back from Dundee for 3.6mill, a 26 year old striker from Sheff wed for 6mill and a centre half for 6 mill . Also, three free transfers soon took all the transfer money and what was left was put into wages. The training and youth facility’s was upgraded as Palace looked to spend the money they were going to get wisely. There were no 48-month transfer deals taken out either. Our best centre half had his head turned by bigger clubs and soon put a transfer request in. As tough as it is going to be to lose him centre back is our strongest position. With the centre half not singing a new contract Palace need to cash in or lose him free in 6 months. Palace touted is name about for 10 mill but the best offer was 5 mill so off he went. The season soon started and palace started as they left off last year. After 10 games palace was 5th and flying. This didn’t go unnoticed and Chelsea came knocking for O’Malley. As tough of a decision it was he turned it down. Chelsea is in a mess and had an ageing squad, a lot of debt and it would of taken years to sort it all out. As the season wore on many was talking of Europe, Palace had been in the top 9 all season so 7th place was not beyond them. After a poor season, Man u sacked the manager and O’Malley was 3rd fav for the job. Although he never got it, he was offered the Tottenham job after they lost their manager to Man u. It was a job you do not turn down. They have a great young squad and plenty of money to make signings. Spurs went on to finish 6th and made the League cup finial and the F.A cup semi finial losing the Man c on both occasions. There is not much that needs changing at spurs so it is more likely that we will be looking to find the best youngsters around and a new keeper is necessary. We have one of the best centre backs in the world at the minute in Rodrigo and a top striker in Felipe. There is a need to trim the squad, as it is excessively big and a few players in the reserves who are on 175 k a week. Some of the players seem to be struggling to motivate themselves for O’Malley so he will have to prove is worth and win them round. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
