You have to load all additional people from the country you want to be and it helps to load the league nearest it as well e.g. For American Somaila you load Austrialia

My Afghanistan game is no more - the file corrupted. So I started a new game with Belize.

After two friendlies which went like this:

Belize 4-1 Grenada

US Virgin Isles 1-1 Belize

We were drawn with El Salvador in the first qualifier for the World Cup:

Belize 5-1 El Salvador

El Salvador 2-1 Belize

Which gave us a 6-3 aggregate score. The draw for the second qualifier has given me Honduras, again with the first leg at home.

Belize have moved to 163 in the world rankings as a result of this! icon_biggrin.gif

Are you still running this MadWoodster? I haven't seen any updates from you for a while...

I'm thinking I'll get back into this once the 8.0.2 patch is out. Do you think the rankings will change again then? I might try the Phillipines this time. With a population that large, it would be interesting to see if the AI respıonds by producing a larger number of regens.

As an update:

Belize 2-5 Honduras

Honduras 3-3 Belize

Which knocked me out of the World Cup qualifiers.

Have since had two friendlies:

Belize 1-1 Netherland Antilles

Anguilla 1-2 Belize

Before the Anguilla match my ranking had slipped to 146, but hope that will improve as a result of the Anguilla game.

I have two other friendlies coming up against French Guyana and Panama.

As I said a while back, I'm going to give this a go again with the new patch, hopefully reviving the challenge in the process icon14.gif

A quick check of the updated game shows that the world rankings are still the same as in 8.0.1 meaning MadWoodster's list of eligible countires is still valid.

I'm going set up my game and post my profile soon. Just trying to decide - The Phillipines and Luxembourg seem to have untapped potential and are tempting. However, I'm also drawn back to Africa after having a good run with Sierra leone last time. The Gambia maybe? Decisions, decisions....

Welcome Mikey Twigge. Good to see another challeneger icon14.gif

I've set my game up and decided to go for Luxembourg, the worst team in Europe icon_smile.gif The FA chose to remind me that Luxembourg has great potential when ı took over and want me to secure their future by promoting youth talent. Easier said than done!!

Active leagues are as follows: - France, Belgium, Holland and Germany (all divisions). All players from Luxembourg loaded too of course. (I actually found out after loading that there's one young player in Norway and one in Switzerland but it's only one apiece so I'll let it slide).

Anyway, here's my profile. I selected Luxembourger as a second nationality (somehow I got a full knowledge bar for France icon_confused.gif )

My star player at present is Jeff Strasser, a 32 year old DC/DCM plying his trade at Metz. I hope and pray he won't retire anytime soon!!

I've come in halfway through Euro 2008 qualifying and it looks grim as we are rooted to the bottom and have already played (and lost) the easy games with Albania.

One game completed so far. A qualifier at home to Slovenia. The first half was dreadful as they completely overran us and we went 2-0 down. I calmed the boys down a bit during the break and we came out much more positive and managed to peg them back to 2-2. Alas, a late goal secured a 3-2 win for the Slovenians.

I reckon it will take a few years to get some decent regens in. I've signed coaches from clubs in Holland, Belgium and Germany who will hopefully take some of the boys outside Luxembourg to develop.

Just a quick round-up of the rest of the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign (I actually wrote this yeaterday but the website went down before I could post icon_mad.gif )

In short, we lost all our remaining games. Away from home, we were poor especailly v. Belarus who beat us 3-0. We took an early lead against Bulgaria in Sofia and then restricted them to just 4 shot on goal in the match. Unfortunately all 4 shots went in as we lost 4-1. Another heavy defeat in Holland was notable for the fact that Gordon Braun scored his first ever international goals. Not bad for a 30 year old striker winning his 25th cap!!

There were some positives though. First was the fact that I got the team scoring goals. Luxembourg had scored 1 in 7 qualifiers before I took the helm. With me in charge we hit 6 in 5 games icon14.gif The home performances were encouraging too with narrow defeats 3-2 to Slovenia and, in our best performance so far, a tight 2-1 loss to Romania. I'll make Stade Josy Bathel a fortress yet!!

The final group table found us rooted firmly to the bottom with 12 defeats in 12 games. At least we can't get any worse icon_razz.gif

We played one more game in 2007, a diasappointing 0-0 home friendly v. Chinese Tapei. We were 20-1 favourtites for that as well...

Onto 2008. Here's hoping for a kind world cup qualiifying draw icon_smile.gif

In my current game, World Cup 2010 Qualifying Groups were drawn on 25th January 2008.

I was drawn in Group 8. Chance to get revenge on Belarus icon14.gif England aside, not a particularly tough group. There should be the chance to pick up a few points (I hope!!)

Quick Update (2008)

I just had two friendlies to start the year so I thought I'd give the results while holidaying through to the World Cup Qualifiers.

First up, Hong Kong away. Again we were favourites, again a draw. We went 1 up early in the 2nd half but failed to make our domination pay and Hong Kong hit us on the break with 5 mins to go icon_frown.gif However, after this game, we moved up to 195th in the world icon_biggrin.gif

Up next, Egypt in Cario. A daunting task on paper but my youngsters took the game to Egypt and came away with a highly impressive 1-1 draw. I can honestly say, we were unluckly not to win.

I'm now waiting to see if any promising regens pop up over the summer. Here's hoping icon_wink.gif

Hello one and all, my apologies for the lack of posting this year, it has been a bit crazy with my day job sending me round the country, attempting to kick start my part time website design business and helping out with my local church, I haven't had a lot of spare time.

Thank you DodgeeD for listing the teams available with 8.01 and 8.02

I have yet to try this challenge with 8.02 but am hopefully that the grey player problem we were experiencing has been fixed, certainly it is there in the changelist.

Sadly it seems they have not updated the rankings to anything recent, nor have they changed the hosting of major tournaments.

Big congratulations to rhinosrule for winning the oceania nations cup

The website has continued running in my absnece and sees rhinosrule at the top of the leaderboard. With Axefighter and BS_8, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Welcome to the challenge those who have joined it this year.

Good to see you back MadWoodster icon14.gif

I was waiting for the new patch to get started again and the grey-player situation seems better. I managed to beat an Andorran team made uıp of greys and draw with an Egyptian team with about 7 of 'em - couldn't get those kind of results in 8.0.1

I'm a few games into my World Cup Qualifiers. Will post deatils when I'm home later.

Quick Update - World Cup Qualifiers

We started the new season with a friendly against Andorra, ranked 131st (50 places above us!). We managed our first win, a deserved 2-1 though they made me sweat a bit towards the end.

That put us in good spirits for the visit of Wales a few days later. An early penalty gave us a further boost and even when Bellamy hit back, we kept on taking the game to them and went ahead again. Alas, Wales got another equalizer and that's how it finished, 2-2

Next, our biggest test so far: England at home. England dominated but only managed one first half goal as we played a tight defence. Then, with 5 mins left, a quick counter attack, a telling cross punched away by Carson.... straight onto John Terry's head and into the back of the net!! Final score 1-1 icon_biggrin.gificon14.gificon_biggrin.gif

One more qualifier to round off the year, away to Israel. Star player Strasser came down with flu before the game leaving us short in defence. Nevertheless, the boys produced a good display to just lose out 1-0 (our first defeat in 7 games!!)

All of this resulted in a world ranking of 118th. Things are looking up for Luxembourg icon14.gif

Have read the thread and really like this challenge.

I will give it a try with the mighty Mongolia.

Currently ranked as 182 in the world, but hopefully the mighty hordes of Djengis Khan will soon rule the world again. icon_smile.gif

rhinosrule managed to win the Oceania Championship with Tonga and I think that's the best performance so far.

If you check back earlier in the thread, I think you'll find Montenegro are actually excluded from the challenge. Their ranking is only low at present due to being a new member of FIFA but should rise irl pretty quickly.

Played my first two friendlies.

Got off to a good start:

Mongolia - Bhutan 2-2

But then I got quickly down to earth and realised how though task this is:

Mongolia - Chinese Taipei 0-11 icon_frown.gif

I can't believe how bad my players are. I let in about seven goals from corners, they can't mark and can't head.

Now I'm facing North Korea for the world cup qual.

It could be nasty.

Mongolia is definitely not in the world cup this year.

Managed a decent result against North Korea.

H: Mongolia - North Korea 1-3

A: North Korea - Mongolia 4-0

Take a look at the attendance click

It may be little to do in North Korea. How many would show up if Brazil came? icon_wink.gif

Luxembourg 2009 Review

Qualifying for the World Cup 2010 is complete but, alas, Luxembourg will be missing/missed again icon_biggrin.gif

Friendlies

Just two friendlies in 2009 (our third against turkey was cancelled due to their involvement in World Cup Play-offs).

home V. Cyprus 4-1 defeat. We scored early on and were unlucky to concede late in the half and go in 1-1. That goal spurred the Cypriots on to overrun us in the 2nd half.

home v. Armenia 1-0 win!! icon_biggrin.gif A quiet game where we just did enough to secure the win.

World Cup Qualifiers

away v. Belarus 3-0 defeat. I just can't seem to get a result against these guys icon_mad.gif Same story as last time...

home v. Serbia 2-1 defeat. I was so close to a first competitive win here. 1 up and playing well until the 70th min when Serbia hit us on the counter attack and then grabbed a sickening injury time goal to inflict a harsh defeat.

away v. England 4-0 defeat. This was always going to be the toughest match, no surprises this time.

away v. Wales 1-1 draw. The result of the campaign for us icon_cool.gif We didn't play that well but frustrated Wales after going behind early on and then hit a late equaliser as my centre back Yannick Loose hit a volley from the edge of the area. Sweet goal! And our only top flight player, Jeff Strasser of French Ligue 1 side Metz, was suspended too.

home v. Belarus 1-0 defeat. Again outclassed by Belarus, thye should have scored more.

home v. Israel 1-0 defeat. We were unlucky here as we matched Israel for most of the game.

away v. Serbia 6-2 defeat. My first real thrashing as Luxembourg boss. Dissappointing but not really unexpected either...

Summary

Final Group Table

2009 Fixtures and Results

Rankings Graph Our ranking peaked at 110 in October 2008. We started the year slightly lower at 123rd. We fiished the year back up a little bit at 120th.

Best XI (2009)

Best XI (Overall)

Not the best of seasons with only one friendly win, but not the worst either especially the away point v. Wales. Apart from the games away to England and Serbia, most of our defeats were narrow ones too. We are playing very well at home. Hopefully the Euro 2012 qualifying draw will throw another minnow our way so we can pick up a win or two icon_wink.gif

By the way, I thought I had a good idea for geting coach reports on my players. I only have 4 players outside Luxembourg, whom my coaches have watched many times. I then had the idea of having my coaches watch the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and UEFA Cup as well as the First Round of the Intertoto. Good idea in theory but in practice my coaches only watched 2 or 3 players a game, all of whom were squad regulars anyway. Plus, one team with no squad players was completely ignored. icon_mad.gif

Anyway, I have a revised idea for next season which I recommend to anyone doing this challenge with Luxembourg, San Marino or any other of the European minnows. Find out which domestic clubs are going to be in Europe and instruct your coaches to make individual reports on all memebers of the repectice squads - you never know, you might spot an overlooked gem or get a good insight into a new regen icon14.gif Oh, and it helps if you set the European competitions to 'full detail' i the options menu too.

Quick Update

The qualifying groups for Euro 2012 have been drawn.

Full Draw

I was a bit dissapointed to see Luxembourg in the very bottom pot with only San Marino for company. However, this means we have a fellow minnow in Liechtenstein so there's a good chance for a win icon14.gif Hopefully, we can get a result against Latvia. Wales and Israel will add a sense of deja vu to proceedings and we'll be looking to go one better against them this time round. As for Romania, Turkey and Portugal, we'll just have to try to avoid total humiliation! icon_razz.gif

Hi all, been following the challenge and think my this could be my comeback to single player FM. So if you'll have me i'd like to take up the challenge with Sierra leone? They started 155th in the world with the latest SI patch. It was a toss up between them and Pakistan, i've loaded all players from sierra leone and Pakistan and fully running every league in asia and africa plus all the bigger leagues in europe.

Guest DonnyRainboe

Sierra Leone start with Nigeria, DR Congo and Lesotho in group I African Nations Qualifying and only one automatic spot available. To make matters worse only one second placed team qualifies from all 13 groups.

Newsflash (in my imaginary champo world all newsflashes are read out in the style of a ESPN bulletin by a certain long legged blonde sports sports reporter)

“Today in International soccer Donny Rainboe is hired as manager of Sierra Leone in the wake of too defeats away versus Nigeria and DR Congo and was reportedly told to enjoy the experience of playing in the qualifying rounds. At the press conference today, and I quote 'There is no enjoyment enjoyment to be had from losing'. Donny Rainboe went further stating that a Fifa world ranking of 155 was not befitting the great Nation of Sierra Leone.†<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/?action=view&current=StartingStats.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/StartingStats.png" border="0" alt="StartingStat"></a>

So I start with no points only up side is that I have the two hardest fixtures out the way will face Nigeria and DR Congo at home.

Results;

4-0 vs Lesotho

2-0 vs DR Congo

3-1 vs Lesotho (away)

3-2 Nigeria!!!!<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/?action=view&current=Dibujo.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/Dibujo.jpg" border="0" alt="Last minutes Vs Nigeria"></a>

It was down to the wire but I pulled if off before the result didn't matter to Nigeria they where save in first place. Obi Mikel was great plus the ref gave them 7 minutes of added time... but most importantly other results when my way and I qualified in second place with 12 points from my 4 games in charge.<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/?action=view&current=AfricanQuals.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/AfricanQuals.png" border="0" alt="AficanCupQualifying"></a>

Newsflash, “Sierra Leone where the surprise qualifiers for the African cup of nations with a historic 3-2 victory over Nigeria. With Equatorial Guinea losing 0 to 4 and Uganda losing 0 to 1 on the same day it finishes Sierra Leone 12 points Equatorial Guinea 11 points and Aganda with 9. Manger Donny Rainboe said that his players simply wanted to win more and slated the Nigerian team stating only Obi Mikel played with any real passion. When asked about Sierra Leones chances in the cup of nations:'If we can play with fire our hearts like today only God can stop us.'â€

The details of the closing down 4-5-1 counter attacking tactics employed to defeat Nigeria where not discussed at the press conference icon_smile.gif

In all my years of playing i've never seen this before my assistant says the players are willing to die for each other icon_redface.gif <a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/?action=view&current=WillingtoDie.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/DonnyRainboe/WillingtoDie.png" border="0" alt="WillingTo Die"></a>
