Jpayne
Seems like the big boys from Npower Champ are really interested in my 16 year old Matt Stepney who's came through the academy and has attracted a good load of clubs, Blackpool, Leeds, Swansea. Trying to hook him onto a deal to keep him until 2015.

Jpayne
Yeah, it's a lot different to the league sides. Not much money is thrown around and you have to work with a really tight budget most of the time which means you have to really wheel and deal to get the right players on the right contract, I've cashed in on 2 players that I bought for free. Tony Diagne who I off-loaded for 7k and Tommy Amos who I off-loaded for 28k and my board said I should have got more, but it's really good and I recommend it to anyone! You just need to pick a random team really and go with it. And thanks!

Jpayne
My youngen who will probably lead the strike force for the rest of the my managerial career (Unless we get to the premier league ) has the potential to become and good Npower Championship striker which I'm really happy with because he's only currently 16 and he's doing really well in the season so I'm happy that my crappy youth academy might have just pulled a gem out of the bag! Jpayne
This is pretty much a small preview of what tomorrows review will be about - Currently Basingstoke town sit in 20th in the League 2 standings after 10 games, having won 2, drawn 4 and lost 4. We have conceded the most in the League which has led me to change my formation various times, however we have scored the 3rd most in the league and the leagues current top scorer is Matt Stepney with 7 goals. Much more to come tomorrow!

Jpayne
I've found my pattern on how we start seasons now, we always fail to win our first 3 games as we have never won the first 3 games in my career and we don't get well on some form until end of October - early November so now I know this I can try to work on it but I think it's how I buy a lot of players in the transfer season and it takes time for them to blend together. Well we've started our time in the real leagues well, our first two months saw my team blend together as a whole and we have got through about 4 losses and draws throughout them months in which we didn't do very well but we have turned it around to get a mid-table position in the League. Onto the FA Cup, as you can see we got drawn non-league side Hyde United and softly put them to bed and shortly afterwards our win we were drawn again NOTTS CO of League 1. If we can get to the round 3 which is my goal but the Boards goal is to get to round 1 which is pretty easy. Onto the Johnstone Paint's Trophy, we've recorded 2 wins now which have got us to the semis a 3-2 against Oxford and a 3-2 penalty win at Colchester in which my 2 top scorers both missed their penalties but their team put the last 3 wide which gave us the edge to go on and win. That sums up the first months as a professional club and we're doing quite well. Basingstoke player of the months: Josh Morris, playing very well lately and has been really helping out the club. Basingstoke young player of the months: Matt Stepney, my academy gem has put in great performances which is getting him interest from Npower Championship sides as he leads our scoring charts for the season. Basingstoke top scorer of the month: Matt Stepney, 4th in the League tables holding it with 11 goals in 15 appearances.

Jpayne
Basingstoke take home the Johnstone Paint Trophy! After getting through to the final with a series of crazy results and tantalising penalty shoot-outs we finally reached Oldham city where we held them to a 1-0 win from a Dennis Souza volley in the area. First round: Got a bye. Second round: Oxford 2 - 3 Basingstoke Quarter finals: Colchester 0 (1 or 2)- 0 (3) Basingstoke Semi finals: Brentford 0 - 0 Basingstoke 1st leg - 2nd leg Brentford 0 (2) - (4) 0 Basingstoke Finals: Oldham 0 - 1 Basingstoke. It was a great year where we overcame problems with my chairman walking out only to be replaced by a local businessmen who doesn't like to help with the transfers (-.-) and as we go into the Npower Championship the lack of Chairman ambition frankly scares the living poo out of me as I think that he won't give me much of a war chest to work with so I'll be forced to use my youth products who aren't ready for such a big competitive league. As well as people trying to poach my best players it won't take long for them to think they can move onto better things then the Stoke but hopefully they'll stay. I plan on unluckily getting rid of some of the old, experienced Basingstoke players such as Moses-Garvey who has notched up 174 appearances for the 'Stoke as well as my old keeper James Gilpin who has notched up 172 appearances so I'll need replacements for them and the costs are rising so I really hope my chairman will give us some good money. Jpayne
Well not good 433tom, recent financial figures released reveal we lost a staggering 1.6 million pounds last season so we're really in the black and this new chairman has taken out a 28 grand loan from the bank that we have to pay off but I have always been well below my budget but I don't like the future of Basingstoke under my new chairman, oh why did David Hunt leave . EDIT: Following the 2.9 million pounds of TV rights being given to us my chairman has announced he will be prepared to fund me with a 3.9 million pound war chest along with a 38 thousand pound wage budget to avoid relegation, sounds good to me. I didn't spend a lot in the transfer window from my 3.9 million pound budget given to me by the board because I will probably want to strengthen the side in the January transfer window and if we get relegated it could go into a good cause other then players. I bought a few good players of the free market which is really good because they're now starting members in the squad and now I'm just trying to iron out some deals for people to come in come January to bolster the squad as I really need another defensive midfielder, the one isn't enough because if he gets injured I'm not in a good position. I'm bringing in an extra striker in the summer to replace Michael Ngoo who's contract I won't be renewing when the time comes and I feel that I have enough people in my squad to cover injuries in the squad and if It comes to the point where I need to bring some players in for vital positions I have great young players in the youth club and 3 players out on loan. Good start to the season and we've brought in some real gems, we have been holding a steady position in the upper-half of the league holding our mits against the promotion contenders, we did have one terrible run-out when my team did not show up with was our 5-1 thrashing by Stoke who really put us the sword but we rallied through and won our next 5 games, 3-2 against West Ham, 1-0 against Southampton, 5-0 against Coventry and 5-1 at Ipswich until we was well beat by Derby 2-0. Shortly after this all happened we went against Cardiff City and we well beat them 3-1 but at the end of the game, around the 87th minute Matt Stepney got around the defender, shot and it rebounded to Will Keane yet while this happened a vicious slide tackle from a Cardiff player slaughtered young Stepney and he's now out for 4-5 months which is the rest of the season. Knowing this I immediately needed to rally up my strike force and the game following his injury Will Keane stepped up to the plate, scoring a marvelous hat-trick against Ian Holloway's Huddersfield. However both of my strikers were unfit, Michael Ngoo wasn't reliable and Jamie Mclaren was a youngster in progress who couldn't do much against the Npower sides so I scouted out Harry Kane and bought him out for £800,000 from Manchester City which is a bargain considering he's a hot prospect for the future as well as Adil Nabi who I NAB-bed (get it? Adil NAB-i) for a free transfer. So all is going well and I hope Harry Kane can step up and produce some goals after he has got over his injury. We was also knocked out in the league cup by Spurs in the 2nd round, 1-0 loss and we have Bury in the third round of the FA Cup which I am about to play. Transfers. Well I am pretty happy yet slightly annoyed at the same time, good news first is the fact that I found my replacement striker - Harry Kane for a bargain 800k and he's already started to perform with Will Keane up front, scoring 3 goals in 3 appearances. I also bought Will Keane's brother who was on the free transfer and I was amazed to see his potential can lead him to becoming a good defender in the premier league. I also loaned of some of my good youth prospects to teams lower down the divisions such as Kettering, Walsall, Rushden and Wimbledon. Bad news is that I was in the market for Benidorm's left back and I placed a bid for him and the transfer window shut so I failed to sign a left back which has left me slightly annoyed. Great first year in the Npower Championship which led us to a sixth place finish, we ended up loosing 4-1 on aggregate to Stoke in the semis of the player-offs but I expected a lot less then what we have delivered this year especially when half of the season my star striker was injured, for Harry Kane, Adil and Will Keane to step up and play like they did was really good. Hopefully we'll run for automatic promotion next year of contend for the play-offs. The squad has exceptionally performed this year and without doubt some people have proved that they can seriously fight for a place in my first team squad, as well as my youngesters who are also contending. I going to off-load the flops of the season though, being Maclaren, Lacombe, Britton and some more to free up some space. Hopefully I can bolster up my back-four for the coming season and get a few center mids in for the 4-4-2 formation I've recently adapted to. The big boys. Pos Inf Team Pld Won Drn Lst For Ag G.D. I didn't spend much but I would have spend 4 million more on a wonderkid from Brazil but his work permit was turned down. . I also bought Paul Robinson to replace James Gilpin who's had a run of poor form and Robinson has turned in some great performances, saving a penalty as well to ensure a 1-0 victory over Coventry. Jpayne
BASINGSTOKE TOWN: End of December 2015 update. Results for the first half of the season. Manager's comments on the season so far. Well we didn't start of the season to well with a terrible 2-1 loss to newly-promoted Crystal Palace which got our campaign off to a real bummer and from that moment I saw that we couldn't challenge for the title this season. The start of the season got even worse when yet again we got drawn against an inferior side to ours and we again we lose, happened against Bury last year in the FA Cup and it's happened against Torquay this year. Our first win eventually came round the corner against a strong Southampton side who went 1-0 up at the half-time break only for us to capitalise on some sloppy defending and an own goal to win the game 4-2. However our luck ran out again when we faced Swansea early in the season like last season and they soundly beat us with a 2-0 win which secured us a place in the bottom half, but lucky for us the points were tight and an away tie at relegated Blackpool proved a tough one as their side tore my defence apart and we didn't have any real chances throughout the game which disappointed me but I wasn't expecting much going against a stronger side without home advantage. From then on we got ourselves on a small winning streak which was ended by a 3-0 loss to Birmingham. One of the highlights of this season was when I was told that West Ham were having a fan day at Upton Park and it would help them promote their club and it would be a sell-out. We dominated that game with a hat-trick from Matt Stepney and Harry Kane as well as the odd goal from Tommy Hoban scoring a header, 7-1 victory over a 33000 strong stadium which made me really chuffed with my side. Not much happened until we went against Crystal Palace again, they had beaten us 2-1 earlier in the season. I was suffering a touchline ban for constant remarks against FA Referees so I didn't see this match, but luckily my assistant done well with what was provided with him and went out as outright winners. We've been knocked out of the League cup in 1st round but we have a tie against 20th place Leicester who recently sacked Emile Heskey due to poor performances. Hopefully we can progress through the FA Cup this year and I'm really looking at a 5th round exit from my boys so hopefully we can progress to the 5th round and maybe onto more. Jpayne
AK22, I must have asked about 10 times for a new stadium. I mean a 6000 capacity in the Npower Championship is stupid and we were pulling in 6000 every week we were at the Camrose, the only awkward thing is if they don't name it The Camrose the Basingstoke badge is going to look real weird. Jpayne
I'm very pleased to announce that a 2nd player from my youth academy has stepped up to fight for a place in the first team and has been given a debut against Sheffield United, Wayne Caton 17 years old and is a striker who will be partnering Harry Kane up front in the absence of unhappy chappy Matt Stepney who thought it would be wise to be unhappy in my team. Jpayne
BASINGSTOKE TOWN: FA CUP 5TH ROUND. Summary over the whole FA Cup's runnings and the 5th round. I was really disappointed with the FA Cup fifth round overall, the overall factor is that every big squad fielded a side full of youngsters that couldn't match a League 2 side. I was really unhappy when I found out the score for the Nottingham Forest game in which they thumped Man United 5-2, I checked United's team and I couldn't know even one of them and I knew why. 80% of them came from their under 18's side and the rest from their reserves. I knew Fulham wouldn't put up their strongest side as they were to play AC Milan next but they came out with what was their worst squad and it was shown by the utter dominance from my strongest set-up and I was worried for Fulham but they were using their reserves and about two players from their first team. We played a good game, scored one stunning goal and could have won the game 5-2 if it hadn't been for the woodwork. The people left in the FA Cup are hardly reputable, most contain Npower Championship and relegation candidates in the premier league.
Maw74
the only awkward thing is if they don't name it The Camrose the Basingstoke badge is going to look real weird. It already does with Football having a gap in it. Anyway good luck with the stadium, and you are doing really well with Basingstoke, hopefully you will be in the PL soon. Jpayne
Yeah, Maw74 it is a pretty weird badge but it was kind of a random pick and hopefully I can guide them to a good premier league season but I'm not sure if I feel my team is ready to enter with the big boys. However my current youth team looks very promising and just won the under 18s cup against Middlesborough.

Jpayne
Yeah but I was really looking for a challenge and I have been drawn against Aston Villa so I wouldn't mind if they fielded a better squad then what I faced against Fulham, but yeah Caton does look like a nice prospect for the future and I've already had Everton place a 450k bid for him in the January transfer market and I tried to negotiate it up to 1.5million but they wasn't having it so they pulled out. Jpayne
The 'Stoke progress through the FA Cup after 3-2 thriller at The Camrose. Summary over the FA Cup progression. First half. This FA Cup bout' brought Aston Villa over to the tightly cramped Camrose, it was a great start to the match as by the 8th minute we were 2-0 up, both goals came from their goalkeeper parrying out to one of our players and those two lucky ones where Brian Nwtambe and Matt Stepney who had us an established 2-0 lead and I was buzzing until they got them both back and by half-time a brace from Daniel Sturridge killed us a bit but that's what football is about. As well as the goal we lost our star striker to an injury which made me sigh. Second half. The second half was touch and go, both sides where missing chances and Robinson made an amazing save to keep us in the game before the goal from Harry Kane to send us 3-2 up and eventually win the game. Overall the Villa side wasn't their strongest but they still fielded a good side against us and we prevailed so it's looking good for us and this is the furthest I've ever gone in the FA Cup for the 'Stoke!. Jpayne
MONO E MONO - - - PAYNE vs BARNES - - - 'STOKE vs THE ROVERS - - - FA CUP SEMI-FINALS. Information. As we go into our historic semi-finals against Blackburn we go without some strong members of the squad, our all-time scorer Matt Stepney who yet again tore his hamstring like last seasons injury and put him out for 3 months, Nick Powell and McDermott. Blackburn enter the finals with a full strength side, no injuries and most of them are I PRESUME match fit unlike my squad who had a game 4 days ago. ODDS Basingstoke 7/2 - - - - - - - Blackburn Rovers 4/6 (Favourites). We're yet again the underdog, just how I like it seeing as we're always complacent against sides who are in lower-leagues. Basingstoke kill of Blackburn in extra-time after comeback! Brilliant game, 1-0 until Harry Kane put away a shot from just inside the box that rebounded off the post and into the post only to be red carded 2 minutes later for a vicious two-footed tackle which I later deemed in the press conference disgraceful and he's been given 2 weeks of a fine, fully deserved. We progressed into extra time and I thought it was about time to bring on more strikers for the penalty shoot-out but Will Keane came again in extra time like at Oldham them 3 years ago and put away an extra-time winner to bring about the game. This past year has stated our mark in the Npower Championship and I can see us going up next season but unfortunately we lost out in the semis again to Blackpool as they scored a 74th minute goal which put us to bed. However with us coming second place in the FA Cup we've been granted a fourth qualifying place in the European cup. I doubt we can make much of a mark in that competition but it can be a good way of income. End of season squad.
