Shottaz
Going to start this with an example just so you get it. Player : Jordan Mcmultiposition ML Jordan is a two footed left midfielder, he has a 12 for pace, acc, passing, crossing, finishing, technique, off the ball, creativity, decisions, flair and dribbling. IMHO, his stats would be good in ML, MC, MR, AMC, AMR, AML, FC, ST Say for example he was in my reserves as a backup, would there be any reason why I wouldnt want to constantly train him new positions. The main questions I have are... 1: Does the ammount of positions affect value? 2: Is it possible to train that many positions? 3: Why would you not have him training new positions all the time? I ask the question becuase I have a player who is DMC but his stats are suited to AMC, I have trained him up and now he is so much more useful to me as an AMC with DMC if the need arises. Thoughs/opinions/input?
Elrithral
1 - Probably, it will also increase his hidden versatility attribute. 2 - Maybe, maybe not. If he can't do it, you'll get told, but theoretically it will be difficult. He won't be natural in all positions and as he learns more/gets used to more, his ability in the other position may decrease, due to lack of training and match practice. If he has the stats you could play him in those positions, regardless of what it says in the positions section. 3 - He could get annoyed because he feels he is naturally a winger and doesn't want to be a striker. Wiitastic
earlier on n my current save when managing Liverpool, I had a player I trained in almost every position on the pitch except for GK. Obviously not as Natural for each position though. Also on FM08, I kept training Gerrard so by end of his playing career, he was able to play in every position on the pitch except for GK

Thoughs/opinions/input? My experiance is that a player's position not only effect how well they can play in different places, but the way in which they play. For instance I usually find a DM/AMC will place differently to an AMC even if his stats are virtually identical.
phnompenhandy
What training and training in a new position do is redistribute the CA points. For example if you have a striker on high shooting/low defending, points will come off tackling and go onto finishing. If you keep moving him around new positions the points will go all over the place, ending up with a 'jack of all trades; master of none'. I'd say a couple of positions is fine, especially if the key attributes are the same, but overall players need to specialise in their strongest position. I/we could be wrong - you're best off asking the experts in the tactics/training forum.
ReeNah
Is there players who are not natural in any position? Surely everyone is natural in at least one position right?

There was a good discussion in T&T about positions not so long ago. Basically for each position each skill represents a % of CA points. For example for a striker finishing, shooting, composure are important skills and count heavily towards his CA total. Whilst at the other end of the scale marking, tackling etc are viewed as not at all important and are basically free skills taking up hardly any CA points. Other skills inbetween take up varying % of CA points depending on how important the skill is for the position. So basically the more positions a player can play, the larger number of skills become important and the more CA points are taken up leaving less scope for improvement resulting in lower overall skills.
