homebasedgg
a simple but good idea would be to have certain squad numbers such as the number 7 at man utd only given to great players etc
YesYesOhYay
well you can select squad numbers already so that shouldnt be a problem! welcome to the forums btw!
homebasedgg
thanks. there could be a news bulletin stating that the man u player with the number 7 could be under extra preasure to successful because of the great players that wore it before him. ie. cantona, beckham etc
YesYesOhYay
that would make more sense! but then id retire number 7 for cantona!
smithers08
Will squad number assignments affect player morale in FM09 ? e.g a backup keeper given the goalkeepers number 1 jersey will be delighted or feel too much pressure is on him etc ? I hope so .
CMBlade
I like this idea, does happen in real life within the media. For example, recently when Robbie Keane was given the number 7 shirt at Liverpool!

I hope so . But squad numbers mean so little in real life. No teams above a certain level have 1-11 as their starting line up, do they? There are exceptions, of course, such as 7 at United and 9 at Liverpool, but these are rare.
Jonfun1980
In FM09 players will tell you the number they would like.

Bjaart
Number 6 at Ac Milan .... Baresi's forever... another example not applied in fm.At lyon, the number MarcVivien Foe was wearing (17) was not given anymore until Jean II Makouin used it again because he was a cameroun player. When he died, man city removed number 23 as well. Still true i do not know. At Ajax, number 14 will also never be used again becasue of Cryff ...... Enough talk about retiring shirt numbers at Ac Milan. How about retiring some players every once in a while?

Number 25 at Chelsea for Zola and 36at Man Utd for Jimmy Davis...... And number 12 for us, the supporters, the 12th man on the pitch in many clubs (Rangers, PAOK, Lens, Feyenoord, Fenerbahce...) At Dinamo Bucharest number 11 for Catalin Haldan..... At Dumferline Athletic number 4 for N.McCathie ..... Would be funny to see it in fm
