Arsenal_Fan_1986
If I am managing a team in England and their is a fantastic coach that doesnt speak English, does it matter? Will the coach be less effective coaching players of different language to his?
VonBlade
Theoretically. Although I've yet to notice any major ill effects. Although I'm sure him speaking the same language helps. There is a side effect to the languages thing. If I'm managing in England and, for example, I'm Spanish and only speak Spanish, and have a squad entirely full of Spanish speaking players and Spanish speaking coaches, we still all end up learning English and don't gel as well until we have. Which makes no sense to me.
kktheboy
It is in fact very important. I've had many players complain that they can't communicate well with the manager and ask for transfers because I spoke only german and was managing Inter Milan. Since then, this is what I do: I take a Swiss/Cameroonian nationality. That gives me at least four languages...English-French (Cameroon) German-Italian (Swiss). Believe me, it works. Taras_Shevchenko
A swiss should speak german, french and italian (+ english). We all learn it at school

Arsenal_Fan_1986
I never thought of that. I always just put that i'm English because I am lol. A lot of people in the football world speak English so it's not too bad, but if I was to manage in a foreign league I'm sure I would struggle. Thanks for the info! cpa
I never really pay attention to languages, i think it can affect a player settiling in though?
chengharry
The only bit I saw lanuage being important is personal tutor between players.... While managing Colchester United, I have a young winger from Romania and want him to learn from my first team winger (Alex from Brazil), the first time wasnt great... After another 6 months, this young Romanian start packing up English and I try the tutor option again and this time it went perfectly.
Bianconeri_tifosi
I remember starting a game with Rennes, and first few months we played very inconsistently. Until i got French as basic language we started playing more consistently - might have been a coincidence with players adopting to the tactics but anyways, thought this might be interesting. simon07
Languages should play a major role witihn the game. With coaches and players but specially with a manager giving instructions to his players. For example, if an English manager goes and manages in Germany, irl the ,manager would struggle initially to give instructions. An assistant that could speak both tounges should then be used! Serdar
Logically thinking language should have affect on relationship&communication and team play but it is really hard to say how goes in FM. I would love to see more information about that somewhere in the game.
thnigelfc
If Poyet and Ramos is working for us...I hate to see what happens when it doesnt then....LOL
Insert_Goal_Here
does having players from the same country in a foreign team help them settle in?
Alekos
Well it would be nice to add from the beginning the languages you speak.. For example I speak greek as my fluent language and english too.. So why am not able to choose as second language english?

pelicanstuff
does having players from the same country in a foreign team help them settle in? Yes, in fact sometimes your Ass Man recommends bringing another player from the same country in to help the first one settle. Works very well indeed for me. Works very well indeed for me. Does it have to be a first team player to help him settle in? Or could you just sign a cheap or free youngster to help him settle in, put him in youth team until the othe player is settled and then offload the youngster? pelicanstuff
seems to work with a youngster for me.... Edit: though sometimes you can come up with something nice. I was looking for a Chinese player to help Chen Tao adjust and then I noticed just how well Gao Lin was playing, and he turned out to be the better signing in the end.
