[Discussion] There should be additional phases to contract discussion

I've been in many situations where I offer a contract to a player, think their demands are reasonable and we finalise the discussion...but then someone else comes in and makes an offer. They mull it over for about a week, but you see they've joined one of the other clubs, often a lower reputation than yours, because they offered a better contract. Well, damn, I could have paid you that much too if you asked me!

So why doesn't it become more dynamic, and the player/agent can come back and say, 'hey, x are offering y, match them and I will still consider joining you'. They could mention exact details of the contract, just the important aspects, or even vagaries, depending on personality and other factors?

I think this is a good idea. The agent could bring back counter demands.

This could apply to transfer negotiations as well. Clubs often just accept a lot of similar bids on players, whereas in real life, they would try to use the interest of other clubs to start a bidding war for a player.
