A Restricted Nation – The Experiment

Escaia [Es-kye-a] are an independent nation off the coast of mainland Europe. Their football history goes back a fair while, but doesn’t consist of the greatest of histories a nation could have. As a major football loving nation, it was clear that there would be some talented players and teams. A decline in support for the sport came fairly recently after one of the biggest footballing scandals in history was declared, with FIFA imposing some extreme restrictions.

The Biggest Footballing Scandal in History

In 1999, the Escaian nation played their first international fixture, resulting in a suspicious 4v0 win. FIFA set up an investigation and found evidence of match fixing. Immediately, Escaia were pulled from all international competitions for one year and the footballing nations’ reputation was highly damaged. Years later, the football leagues had grown and flourished in to something fairly big, however one of the biggest footballing scandals was revealed in 2002 when FIFA found over 12 clubs making illegal transfers and over 200 examples of match fixing in the years gone by with more suspected to be a part of the scandal. As a result, the fans of the sport declined rapidly, many calling for a total revamp of the game in the country. Moreover to the upset of the fans, FIFA felt the need to dissolve many of the clubs found to be guilty of the scandals and further imposed one of the most extreme transfer embargoes ever.

dependence Upon The Youth

The transfer embargo immediately meant teams would not be able to sign players, leaving it all down to the youth academy and training facilities at hand. The Escaian FA realised the issues with the transfer embargo in place and sought to give the clubs some of the best possibilities they could get with the restrictions in place. Grants were given and youth academies were built across the country for near enough every club. The FA suggested that with the facilities they are providing, the country could become one of the most competitive within Europe without having to sign a single European player. All would be home-grown talent.

The embargo saw talent come through the youth system and people started to believe in a national league full of simply home grown talent. Before the transfer embargo was lifted on Escaia, the Escaian FA proposed, and imposed a new rule in the Escaian leagues:
A minimum of 11 home-grown club players in the first 11
and
a minimum of 18 home-grown club players in the match squad
. This simply meant every team would be restricted to their home grown talent that came through the system.

In 2009, the embargo was lifted and the new rules were put in to place, practically continuing what the transfer embargo had done for the past years in a bid to continue the legality of the leagues, keeping the illegal transfers out of the game.

Statistics And Objectives

Population: TBD

Spoken Languages: English

Capital: Rondai

Currency: Euro

The main objective of creating a nation restricted by rules of such that mean a team must play their home grown talent is to see if they will be able to challenge the big clubs from around Europe for Champions League Glory. Secondly, it is to see how the nation fares internationally with such good facilities. Or, will the restrictions cause Escaia to fall away, with none of the youths actually progressing to help the nation or clubs.

Basically, all clubs have youth systems. All top clubs have state of the art facilities with the lower clubs still having some excellent facilities.

The question is will the difference in facilities have a massive impact?

The answer should be yes in this case, with rules meaning players must come through the clubs youth facilities - so in turn this should determine the better teams from the weaker.

There may be other factors that will play in to the hand of some teams, such as the city they are based in. The bigger the population the more likely they will be able to snatch good youth.

The prediction, based on the facilities at hand suggest that the winner of the Premier league will be one of four;

Rondai FC

Prydell Utd

Prydell City

Morcliff City

For league one we can expect to see these two battle it for first, with a very tight league it could be anyones game (based on the facilities);

FC Plenkiev

AFC Helvantene

Alburias Juniors

For League Two, purposely the Escaian Juniors were given the best facilities possible, higher than the rest of the teams in the league by far for some. With these facilities, we can expect to see the Escaian Juniors excel above the rest. However, nothing ever works out right, does it?
