Scared the hell out of me too, ignoring the executions, the game was extremely tense and very different from anything else at the time

I'm guessing it's down to something legal and SI want nothing to do with it. Imagine if Haaland slaps Ronaldo in FM, then the clips hits social media, it wouldn't really be a good look for the game. Bit of squaring up and arguing, I don't know, that's more fun than anything but still maybe something SI don't want to simulate in game

Even bad tackles in FM aren't that bad really, no high boots or anything like that, it's all at ground level

Despite that, Haaland can elbow Ronaldo in FM and get sent off. Weird how that still remains in the game.

I feel there has to be a little bit more to this than just being sued by Insert Footballer Here. You don't get dissent from players towards the referee at any point of the match. Players don't surround the ref for a decision. Managers can slag off the ref and get a touch line ban but you don't see managers get yellow cards from the touchline. Maybe they don't want to present this content to younger users.

It seems to me from my own game and from comments in various places that there is still an issue with youth development. The main symptoms seem to be older players never getting replaced, and teams struggling to meet their home grown registration requirements. Before I go off trying to prove there is still an issues, has SI confirmed this is still a problem, or is there a bug report already? I looked through the bug tracker for about 10 minutes but it's really sprawling and I'm worried I might have missed an existing topic.

It has been acknowledged as an issue, but from research from Davidincid and others on the form is now isolated to the top five leagues. He has created a custom database which resolves the problem.

  3. What's the simplest way to add conditions where the viewport is too small for the screen?

Tato's skin is fantastic but on laptop screens there is some minor issues with scale, although reducing screen scaling helps a little:

A change i would like to see is that staff(manager + coaches) in the under 18s affect the players personalities the same way Squad personalities affect players when they're reach the senior team. From what i know personalities on coaches other than HOY have no effect.

Mentoring was also nerfed in FM22 and I definitely think a gap has been left for players personalities to be improved, especially at under 18 level.

  5. After 18 players improve more from match experience than training, so that might explain the improvement. I don't know how CA growth works exactly under the hood, it might be that gaining CA from match experience is easier than match experience from training.

My coaches (first team special roles) are also training reserve team + under 18s. Could that affect the training? Should staff only be tasked with the team they're hired for?

It could also be that the potential of my example just have really bad PA, and that's why it's little-to-none improvement, hard to tell without using editor. However the scout report says that they can improve a lot.

I think it would only be a problem if their training workload is heavy.

If their PA was really bad, I would imagine that your coaching reports would say that. Star ratings are not exact and are occasionally misleading but they are not designed to be wildly wrong to that extent.

  6. This is worth raising in the bug tracker. Youth development was slowed significantly in FM22 but you should still see improvements from players over the course of the year. That said, just because they are 5 star youth prospects shouldn't mean they develop automatically. The two players you have shown have balanced and fairly sporting personalities, which aren't great indicators of players who will grow quickly. Injuries will also effect development if they have had any serious ones.

FM 22 nerfed early growth for youth players. Honestly even in FM 23, I wish player development was a bit more faster.  I believe it could also be related to this bug ->

That is more an issue of AI not playing youngsters and not giving them enough game time.

  7. Peak PA has been discussed before and I believe it's simply their previous highest PA from previous editions of FM and has no influence.

Another thing to note is that a players transfer value is also dictated by factors outside of a players CA growth. Reputation and the league they are playing in also effect this. I don't know the Eredivisie well but this might explain why players are still low valued even after a good season, although if it's particularly low that could indicate a bug. Also, youth intake can be misleading. I had a 5 star and a 3 star player in my youth intake and it turned out that one had a PA of 160 and the other 164.

As for development, it has slowed significantly but seems to allow more growth after 24. It's a tricky balance because it was a little too easy in the past to create an army of 21 year old model citizens with maxed out CA, but FM22 mentoring seemed insignificant and seeing a player not grow after a year was frustrating.

At least, it would be better if they dont make fun of us. If I go to my boss to say "I need several hours of testing" for an issue in an app that has been there for a year I would be fired in a second.

Sounds like you have a boss that doesn't know much about software development

Not being able to fix it for FM22 and then FM23 shows that it's not something SI cares about, else they would at least have looked at what Daveincid did in his realism pack and improve on it

To be fair to SI, this was brought up pretty late in FM22's dev cycle, long after the final patch.

Do you guys also take a look at teams average age? I believe most of them are in 30's?

I still play FM21 and some of the best teams are on 26-27's (long term save)

FM21 doesn't have this issue because older players CA decays more sharply and younger players CA growth is more rapid.

  10. Personally, I would rather have press conferences/pre and post-match interviews be boiled down to one or two key questions, and make each answer more impactful. Apart from occasional bumps in player morale, it only impacts your relationship with the other managers.

The game does occasionally ask some interesting questions, like being unable to beat a certain manager or team or things like a change in formation, things that tell a narrative. It would also be nice to see these questions have an impact on your relationship with the board or fans also.

I get what SI are going for but the reality is that press conferences are boring in real life except for the odd sound bite.

    Two questions on this.

    1. Why would AI team building ‘ruin’ the game for you? Just scout and sign young players yourself, develop them and sell them off for profit or play them. That being said, I take your point that realism should be strived for, I just wouldn’t call it a game-breaking bug any more than Morocco winning the 2022 World Cup in my beta save.

    2. How certain are you that your results are not driven by your game set up? Seeing you’re quite a lot of seasons along, do you have a multi-country multi-league setup? I.e if you don’t load neighbouring countries or lower divisions of your countries of interest, it may affect the loan opportunities of youngsters. Also, which countries are producing regens in your set up? If it’s only England for instance, how realistic is it to expect only English youngsters to fill the boots of wonderkids from across the globe?

    1. If the AI over prioritise older players then the argument is that the game becomes easier as teams become stocked with slower aging players.

    2. It has been acknowledged by SI.

Seems odd to highlight the positive review score when it's down from FM22.

For a game that barely changes from year to year and drives sales with annual incremental improvements, any drop in review score should surely be very damning?

It's only down 4% though, from beta reviews only.

I doubt SI would concern themselves unless it took a drastic plunge.

Loaded league players do develop better, but I'd hesistate to call it well, as they're still on average 6.6 points behind at 25 vs 12.6 with non-loaded. The worst is actually -10.4 at 21, whereas with non-loaded league players it was -13.94 at 26

Are view only leagues identical to playable in this regard? If you were to load a view only league and the players for it, would there be a significant difference in attribute growth compared to loading the playable league instead?

I'm convinced that it's (at least partly) related to player reputations not growing fast enough. On FM22, there were very few high-reputation youngsters in 2030 compared to at the start of the game, but the reduction of high-CA youngsters wasn't quite as bad.

Indeed it was. Davidincid created a db file that added huge amount of reputation boosts for younger players in an attempt to get them competitive with older players. Not sure how successful it was though.

This has always been an issue, the only reason it effected FM22 is because of older players now lose CA slower causing the imbalance.
