Don't agree. The AI should be able to consider using hot prospects for easier home games, sub them in when ahead or change things up whenever they are down (like real life managers would do). This does not happen enough, so all the amazing prospects do not get enough game time which hamper their development, which has an effect on the overall future landscape of players, international team selection, etc.

Clubs buy up hot prospects and refuse to use them, which is game breaking for me personally, as I enjoy dynamic game worlds. Where is the new regen/wonderkid Messi, Mbappe or Haaland who already has 100 games under his belt at a top team/competition and is 180 CA by the age of 20? This will never happen now, because these players don't get their chance to play.

Clubs are allowed to use 5 subs in most competitions, but often only use 1 or 2, even when they are ahead with 5-0 at half time or down 2-0 in the 60th minute. Fatigued players are kept on the pitch even though decent alternatives are held on the bench.

I couldn't care less now if competing teams buy up hot prospects, as they will not use them anyway while I should be afraid of them developing a monster team with these additions. It would create a far more challenging and fun game in the long term if they would actually use them.

FWIW  in FM23 the wonderkid players with high CA did still exist, however you will only see these players at smaller clubs. Barcelona, Man City youngsters developed much slower and the highest PA newgen in my current game has 170CA/190PA by age 20 playing for Mainz.

I almost guarantee if you were to holiday your save and start managing in the year 2040, the gameworld would be a lot more balanced, with squads being built properly because there's no real life players getting in the way.

And that's the biggest challenge SI have with this.

I also think this is a factor. Real life players have high CA/Natural fitness, very few weaknesses and at least average personalities compared to Newgens, who have much more variability.

I just had a player sold out from under me by the board accepting an offer for my best young player. The message at 22:57 gave me the opportunity to protest the transfer, however the messages at 23:05 and 23:11 confirming his exit were already in my inbox!

Is this a bug or does the board play proper hard ball this year? If so, why give me the option to protest when he is already a Monaco player? Some pretty weird stuff going on with interactions and logic.

Were you taking part in transfer deadline day? I think I've seen this happen before if you aren't participating due to the short timescales.

  3. In addition to a lot of good points above, the other issue I have is the lack of variety. The previous format meant you could play against unique teams every year at the group stage level, and then encounter the usual suspects at the later stages. You would think the league format would have more variety but in my current game I seem to play Real Madrid in the league stage every year without fail.

  4. I wonder if attribute changes for staff will come with other additions for developing staff. It's a nice addition though.

Fixture scheduling improvements are also welcome, hopefully that means an end to matches with only a day break between. I downloaded a club world cup db to move it to December and it has caused absolute chaos in my save.

Thanks for your input. My only doubt about this new role are the coach's traits. Does a coach really prefer "attack near post" or "prefer inswinging corners"? I would guess this has more to do with the type of players the squad has rather than a personal preference. Plus, these traits will be very difficult to scout and translate into the game.

As an example watching Newcastle this season, Howe definitely has a couple of favourites he likes, including playing a low ball to the edge of the area for a player to ghost in.

I'm interested to know how short corners and free kicks will work. Teams in real life love using runners to deliver a ball into the box rather than directly from the kick, I wonder if we'll get more of this variety in FM24.

I don't know if this idea has been discussed before. If yes please accept my apologies.

As you know, we play against AI in FM and things can get easy after a while. AI managers can't be competitive enough. But what if we played the game against real opponents, wouldn't it be more fun and challenging? I have an idea of what it could be like. Millions of real players are making individual careers in FM simultaneously. But to make multiplayer online careers, everyone has to take their time and be online at the same time, and it's not easy.

But can't AI imitate other FM players? I think it's not too hard to set. For example, when you start a career with Arsenal, AI can copy the tactics and transfer moves of FM players who have had successful City and Liverpool careers elsewhere in the world. Thus, a kind of offline multiplayer career will be possible.
Some of you may like this idea or some of you may seem ridiculous. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Transfers would be unsustainable once newgens become prominent (4-5 years in.), which is the exact time I would argue the AI begins to struggle against the human. Hopefully the new AI squad building resolves these issues.

SI could certainly look at the tactical meta and adapt the AI in updates. I think that would add some challenge but then you run into the danger of every team in the league playing 4-2-3-1 gegenpress. I would love to see tactical trends implemented into football manager though. Fluid Counter becomes the popular style, and then other teams adapt to compensate, then as a result gegenpress becomes more popular, or the 4-4-2, and so on.

So it doesn't lower their ceiling at all then?  Maybe it "morphs" their ceiling and they end up becoming a bit of a different player than before?

It would depend on what you would define as a ceiling. If you mean attributes then there is a difference in the ceiling between two players with the same PA depending on their two footedness/positional ability, so a one footed ST will likely have a small advantage in attributes compared to at AMRLC/ST with two good feet.

That said, I don't think it has much of an actual impact on the game.

Fair point. Still curious how the transfer market change is reflected in the game even if you cant play the league.

I imagine the clubs will be made to be extremely rich and able to make huge bids. A couple of Saudi clubs go for older players on decent money in FM23, so I don't think it would be hard for SI to implement despite no league.

Again they didnt separate with ball and without tactic and they talk about real thing, tactic is most important thing they do wrong and dont care. I talk about this 4 years..look City with and without ball tactic... this in FM is not possible

SI clearly don't like micro tweaking of a tactic, which is why we also lost sliders, position arrows, and player roles were locked down. I'm sure realism comes into their thinking but it's also noticeable how FM doesn't really suffer from outright broken tactics as much these days, even if there still a meta.

The blog outlines a new role designed to make City's tactic possible in FM. Player roles and mentalities are now supposed to be the on the ball/off the ball instructions

So I have shortlisted 2 HOYD to replace my current one once his contract expires next month. One has Park The Bus as tactical style, and 4-2-3-1 DM-AM Wide as favorite formation with a direct play-style. The other one has Tiki-Taka, 4-3-1-2, standard. I'm playing with either 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-3 DM, and try to play a positive short passing game with high pressing. In terms of style I guess Control Possesion, Tiki-Taka, Vertical Tiki-Taka and Gegenpressung are all fine. Park the bus is however the opposite of what I want. However, the one with a preferred tactical style that fits my philosophy has a preferred  formation without wingers and two strikers. I'm a bit worried that if I choose that one I will get a shortage of winger and a abundance of strikers through my academy. Is that justified, or won't that really matter? Will have tactical style an influence of the type of players I get? Does a Park The Bus guy is more like to produce Anchor Man and BWM as DM, while vertical tiki-taka guy is more like to get produce a regista for example?

If you don't have a U18/Reserves manager you can make him manage one of those teams, and make sure he uses your default tactic. They tend to change their formation preference to yours over time.

  11. Excited to see Japan back in the game. Haven't been able to do a J-League save since all they way back in CM4! That will be my beta save for sure.

So far I feel quite positive about the changes, seems like there is a good focus on the match engine.

  12. The unity news feels like a play. Announce an egregious policy change that has everyone up in arms for a few days and then backpedal to a smaller change that might still be bad, but now looks reasonable compared to the original one.

Unity will probably shoehorn in some kind of royalty system, but their is no way they can get away with an install fee.

  13. More direct passing is asking your players to move the ball to the final third as quickly as possible, eschewing build up. It doesn't necessarily mean they will hoof it or attempt to play the striker in from centre half.

Pass into space and the PI take more risks would make playing in the striker more likely.

Tempo is allowing set amount of time on the ball before making a decision. So combining the two your players would be more likely to hoof it long or play riskier balls since they don't have much time to assess passing options.

As a big team, let's say Man Utd after winning the title a season or two, can you play a direct passing game?

I understand that when teams sit back and defend for a draw, you are supposed to play on a lower tempo with a formation that exploits the wings to stretch the play.

I've found the opposite. I've maxed out the tempo in order to blitz the opposition.

Direct passing can also be good because it makes it harder for opposing players to get back into position after a transition, especially if you have players decent physicals.
