What's the difference between Wide Midfielder and Winger?
Wide Midfielders have no individual instructions. They also start from a deeper position than a winger so they can provide defensive cover whereas a winger is more aggressive.

I use a similar set up with my current save and have found the following quite helpful:
For your IW, try asking him to sit narrower. I find it helps pin the opposing fb closer to the box and helps free up space for the WB.
It has been mentioned that playing more direct would help, but I would actually consider just upping the tempo instead, especially if you find your dominating possession. Playing more direct might make it more difficult for your wide players and wing backs to keep up with the play when you go forward.
Another trick to consider is focusing play down one side of the pitch, this helps draw the opposing players to one side and one well hit cross field ball will give the attacker more space to put in a cross.

not really a tactical question, but what do Performance Analysts and Recruitment Analysts do?
Performance Analysts can provide reports on the tactics upcoming opposition will use as well as providing analysis on your own team's performance throughout the season.
Recruitment analysts can provide stats for players you are scouting and will also provide scouting suggestions based on high performing players from various leagues.

If you are playing compact like you are you could try adding a split block (putting your advanced players on high pressing) or flank pressing (high pressing on your wide players and forwards, tighter marking in the middle).
Secondly, how are you doing in possession? If your players are getting extremely wide and knocking the ball into space, you might find you are losing possession in areas where your players are finding it hard to get back into position, or keep losing possession and putting themselves under pressure.
I'm intrigued to know what kind of football you are trying to play. Your possession instructions seem counter attack focused but your in transition seems to contradict this.

Well man marking is not a magic instruction that stops City from being able to play well. Perhaps your defenders just aren't good enough to mark City out of the game.
If you could post a screenshot of your tactic we can see what settings you are using and what might be causing you to ship goals.

You need to post the whole tactic (roles, duties and instructions including the mentality). Because 2-3 roles in isolation mean nothing. The whole context matters. Without that, any potential "advice" will be pure speculation, rather than really useful.
Yep. For example, if your inside towards are supported by overlapping wing backs, a DLF of PF on support may help to give you five players across the width of the pitch.
If you've got an attacking player in the CM role determined to get in the box, you might want to use an advanced forward to pin the defence down. With the supporting Inside Forward on the same side as your attacking cm.

There are exploit tactics for most years of FM. I remember FM18 having a particularly broken 3-4-3 for example.
I would think which edition of FM you want to play and then Google. That said, since FM19 the tactics system is a bit more robust even if high press tactics are OP.

wouldn't using overlap just be overkill, since the WB role will naturally overlap the IW anyway? The focus play tip seems interesting, i'll give it a go!!
It depends on the teams ability to counter, and it's not completely necessary so I would suggest trying both support and attack and seeing how it goes . Overlap reduces the mentality of the IW and increases the mentality of the WB, although if the IW is on attack with a team mentality of positive of higher their individual mentality should stay at very attacking. having both on attack could allow those two players to overload a single full back, or the IW can pin the centre half on that side of the pitch giving more opportunity for your ST to find an opening.
Focus play on one side and overlap on the other is from a good article I recommend here: https://dictatethegame.com/the-beauty-of-focus-play-creating-overloads-in-fm21/. The idea is to overload one side of the pitch to open up space for a right-sided attacking player (such as your IW) to be open to a cross field ball. One thing I might suggest is try removing pass into space if it's not working. I've found this approach works better when you give your players time to get bodies to the left side of the pitch to create that overload and they might jump the gun too early otherwise.

@CARRERA i have attached my tactic here, any thoughts or suggestions you have in mind?
Since your two wide players are cutting inside I would consider changing your FB to a WB and putting both full backs on attack duty and/or using overlap on one or both sides. This would put more pressure on the defence as they will have to deal with potentially six players in the final third.
Alternatively, What I like to do is have focus play on one side of the pitch and overlap on the side with the attacking wide player so that the fullback also bombs forward. It makes the opposition defence move away from the attacking wide player as your possession is focused on the opposite side leaving them open to a deadly cross field ball.
If you are facing a side parking the bus, considering moving the AM to ST, it's not the most sophisticated method but it works!

Iirc it refers to what the player does when one on one with an opposing player. Rather than trying to dribble past them he is more likely to knock it past them and rely on athleticism rather than technique.
I don't think it would conflict.

Depends on the version. If it had access to downloading android apps via Google play it can download FM Touch but this will be the version for tablets.
You can also play it via Google Stadia

You can also try playing more direct passes so the opposition have less time to get back into their defensive shape. Sometimes works well with hit early crosses.
Also consider lowering you LOE to encourage the opposition to move higher up the pitch.
Finally, when all else fails you can always deploy the 4-2-4, with four players in the most advanced portion of the pitch it makes it easier to get players into goal scoring opportunities.

I was using a 4-4-1-1 at first as well, but I had a similar issue, can I ask what you tweak game to game, do you ever counter press or regroup and do you ever change the passing to direct?
So counter press was a recent addition and I've kept it in as it seems to be really working so far. I've never tried regrouping, mostly because I occasionally like to win the ball higher up the field in transition and start a counter attack as we have the pace. Against bigger teams I will occasionally tell my GK to distribute to centrebacks in order to retain possession and encourage Ajer to try a cheeky ball over the top for my WMs or Joelinton to run onto.
Against smaller teams I have tried increasing the width and focusing play through the middle to try and create holes for Olmo and Longstaff to run into. Olmo has started to shine since I moved him to SS from a AM(a)
I also sometimes change to a 4-4-2 with Gayle at AF as he seems to score for fun. Carroll is also really useful especially when teams are sitting deep.

Hey dude, can I gatecrash your topic? I'm also doing a fluid counter with Newcastle. My defensive is rock solid thanks to your thread on defending (2nd best in the league!) and on the hunt for Europe and I'm but I'm having trouble when playing teams at home where I am clear favourites.
Only PIs are on my WMs. I originally used wingers but wanted them to be more narrow so made them WMs with all the PIs of wingers but sit narrower.

After playing 15-20 more matches, I also feel that the long passes are a bit too accurate and the defence reaction time to these long balls also looks a bit low. Only slight tweak is required in both these areas imo. Nothing too drastic.
This. It's quite clear the reason why the devs are so reluctant to buff one-on-ones is because defenders reaction times to balls over the top is consistently slow. I'm not even playing with a high line gegenpress.
This is the only problem I have with the game as everything else works really well now.

Newcastle don't have the players to play a convincing gegenpress without being hit on the break constantly so thanks to Experienced Defender's thread on defending I settled on this which has worked wonders for me so far defensively and 8th best defensive record in the league. Still a fair number of one-on-ones though.
Had a ton of issues with wingers and full backs firing into the side netting and after looking at my team and not seeing much from crossing in the wide areas decided to swap my wingers after Almiron came back from injury. I think it worked...

So I got an in game broadcast in my tavern saying there was a new version of the game with a 300 MB patch to download. Steam only downloaded a 1.9 MB patch (I downloaded something yesterday so I think I might have gotten through a backend download). However I don't see anything different and there aren't any new posts in the patches section. Did anyone else get this?
You need to opt-in to the public beta.
They seem to be using an updated ME so I think the size might be replacing that code.

What is the training like? Does it incorporate the training from full fat FM or is it the same as FM19 Touch?
My only bug bear with last year was seeing players complain about training that was performed under the hood without my input!

I would suggest making a separate thread with your full tactic, in case there is something glaring that's causing an issue.
When I play a DLP, I tend to think about where he is aiming his passes, such as to an AF or W on the opposite side of the pitch on attack to stretch the play. A DLP will make risky passes so having someone to get on the end of them is important.
BPD don't operate the same as DLPs. They will potentially bring the ball out of defence and look to play killer balls. They are actually less likely to pass to each other because they are both looking for opportunities to make risky passes.
