  1. I have had thousands of hours watching full matches on FM and I can assure you that there is no perfect solution to this until they name a new role that attacks as winger while defends as a central player. I have been wanting things like this for years. Right now the AP, Carrilero, or Mezzala would be your best option if you want a solid defensive shape and an effective high-press. Otherwise you can use all kinds of asymmetrical/weird-looking shapes.
  2. My impression of him as a manager came from the Valencia Barça match last year, when he utilised Foulquier to allow the team to switch to a 5212 system defensively. He might be doing things ‘modern’ coaches all do, but he definitely tries Italian ways of achieving defensive solidity.
  3. Generally APs have a bigger area to roam than Mezzala or carillero, yet still nothing near the expected Valverde movement. If you use a WM instead, he won’t come narrow enough, also the defensive shape is nasty. My alternative is to always use asymmetrical formations. Actually I never used symmetrical formations these years. This is never going to change if SI doesn’t kill the barrier between MC and ML/R, AMC and AML/R.
  4. No, they just don’t. It’s absolutely necessary for the No.10 player or the mezzala to support/overlap/overload the flanks during build ups. Sitting in the half spaces is different from actively supporting the flanks. Think about how Kaka or Valverde plays. Currently you only see the striker on the same side come offer support on the flanks very reluctantly, before moving to central areas again. And yes, the striker is not moving enough either.
  5. Player traits are often overlooked. You might want to bestow traits like Crosses Early or Tries Long Passes with IGE on your fullbacks.
  6. Very true. Long ball needs an overhaul in this game. When using a long ball tactic, player behaviour should be more distinctive, how the target man signals for a long ball, how players move in clusters to compete for header and loose ball, etc.
  7. 4312 or any narrow systems are intrinsically flawed in this game. I am a fan of Italian football legacies. These asymmetrical narrow formations have been the pearls of football tactics. No winger means everyone can appear on the flanks, especially the number 10 player. In this game, however, a narrow formation means that wingbacks take care of everything on the flanks, which is ugly.
  8. I don't know if this is the right place to let this out, but I feel I should. I have had 100+ hours simply watching full matches now on 24 like I did every year, and I can confirm nothing has changed. I bought this game learning from the feature showcasing articles that players would be 'less likely to run with the ball all the way down the flanks'. Yet during my time playing full match, somewhere like 80% of the opponent threats come from when a wingback receives the ball from deep, runs all the way to the byline, and threatens my goal with a throw-in or a corner. If any fullback is capable of doing this regularly in real life, he must be GOATed. This is just as frustrating as the similar scenes from any past FM titles. I was excited at first to learn about the new positional play feature. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it's also very limited in terms of representing dynamics in real-life football. The IFB is cool but I'd use a WB(D) all day. The rotation feature that allows players to occupy half spaces in the AM strata? It looks decent on paper, but when you play full-match you will notice it becomes rigid and locks player movement rather than allowing for the free-flow of player rotation we see in real life. I have been saying this for years, and every year ended up a disappointment. It's really the dynamics of football rather than the authenticity of player animation that needs to be worked on. If this game is to reflect what happens on a football pitch, a real one, we will need a full separation between offensive and defensive formations. We need free and respective command over how the players act with and without the ball. I fully understand the technical difficulties that you might have to overcome in achieving this, and I'd say the least you can do is to allow central players to operate on the flanks and wide players in central areas. For example, the CAM in a 4312 system should roam freely and actively support the wingplays when a fullback receives the ball or even play as a winger when needed; other cases in a 442 system with a compact 4 midfielders setup would see a wide mid come in central or even arrive at the other flank to create an overload. I'm glad that some roles in this game, like the IWB, already offer a certain degree of rotation. I'd assume the same can be done for other roles in different strata. I hope you understand my frustration. I love this game. I love the experience of telling the team what to do on the pitch versus the direct control over everyone as in FIFA. And given the hours I have spent these years on watching full matches, I can safely say this game does really well in representing every aspect of the football world, except for what happens on the pitch. This game is getting increasingly expensive each year, and I don't want to blame anyone. But the frustration is real. I don't know if the new engine next year is going to change the situation. I think I'll have to wait and see.
  9. I am afraid this is no use. To send you a save I would need to save the game first, and when you load it, everything worthy of attention would be gone (since the banned players would be cleared). As an example: I was about to play the Copa America semi-final, and Di Maria in the opponent squad had been banned (straight red the the 1/4s, so it can't be the semi-final clearance thing). I thought let's call it today and save for tomorrow, by which I only saw Di Maria on the pitch when I loaded the game the other day. Like I said, this happened multiple times in multiple competitions for my and opponent players.
  10. I was managing a national team. Normally players would get banned for the next game through accumulated yellow cards or a straight red. Now both mine and opponent players would see their ban lifted if you save and reload the game. This occured multiple times in multiple competitions.
  11. As the title implies, I have reproduced this issue in several saves of mine, and when you manage national teams it won’t show all the players. In the case of the attached photo, my save contains 100k+ players.
  12. That's why I am never a fan of the mentalities in this game. Yes they have reworked mentalities this year but it doesn’t make it less confusing and counterintuitive. And I don’t think mentalities relate to risk/reward that well this game, because it’s more of a style of play or football philosophy type of thing. If you want to play the Barcelona style you use the positive; if you want to play like Ancelotti you use the cautious; Like Mourinho probably use the defensive and like Klopp or some German-influenced football you use attacking. I really want to see the mentalities as the ‘risk gauge’ but it’s not. Because in real life the risk is at least divided into two parts: offensive and defensive risks. Risks in football is never a single package. Coaches should be able to set their own offensive and defensive risks. For example, if I want my team to go as aggressive in the attack and as conservative defensively, I should be able to do that. But in this game it’s more like I need to use attacking when I attack and defensive when I defend, which is not possible. The separation of offensive and defensive mentalities might be the least SI could do to make this game more ‘realistic’ if the separation of offensive and defensive formations is too complex technically to achieve.
  13. If you just want more possession, you should probably look at things like your attacking width, tempo, having more support duties, the way your team wins the ball back.
  14. I don’t know too much about the FM logic of wide and narrow. I will just relate it with real life: Valencia 02/03 plays that wide 4-1-2-1-2 diamond with Aimar playing that No.10 and two wingers on the flanks against Arsenal in Champions League. It basically operates upon Aimar’s ability to link the four attacking players. It’s a tactic relies heavily on player strength so if you’re not sure if your players are capable maybe you should stick with the narrow. Especially when fm23 has improved player movement for narrow formations.
  15. Hello Match Team, Do we have a thread for reporting match engine related issues or offering suggestions? Thanks.
