  1. As we all like doing our own custom leagues , as i do , i was curious on what Research you ose and where you get it from and also what formats you settle on , be it your own styles or duplicating a Nation , City , league , club and players .

Thought this would help others when building leagues etc .

So as a start i always go to Wikipedia first to research the country . Populations , Town names etc . This is usually a great start but if you are doing lower leagues or countries that are not as well known it does become difficult to find the infomation especially if the sport isnt the first and foremost sport of that country . Generally football clubs have there own websites but the lower reputation of the club makes it harder again . This is also very hard to find the club logos and even harder to find Kit infomation . Ticket pricing , Attendance info , Player info etc etc . It can become very fustrating . Maybe others have more infomation on how to do this .

I have just completed my Canada file and have changed from it to a East West format like the USA . But finding infoamtion was quite easy which makes the whole experience great . Its also a great way to learn about other countrues .

Because my computer is 6 years old so i cant do big leagues because running it in the game when testing takes forever . Testing it in the editor also is very time consuming so i i generally go for the smaller formats . Something like Canada appealed to me for that reason . I have also done Guernsey , Jersey , Isle of Man , Australia , Cayman Islands , Monserrat . I created my own country with Western Australia which was a challenge due to the lack of infomation and the techical difficulties of the editor .

When starting a league in the editor i think we all start with the basic and then convert to advance rules . Does anyone actually start with Advance Rules ? . Once you have mastered the basic concept the advance rules is a bigger stepping stone and takes years to master . I think it came in at FM14 so thats how long i have been at it and im still learning new things so its not ever going to be mastered lol .

What i do generally though is load a nation or league in my FM23 editor to see how they are created and use it asa template for the league i am trying to create . If you have a previous version its a great tool .

Also downloading other created files is another way of finding infomation

So in finishing i was wondering if people would like to offer there experiences in building a nation or leagues structures they have created and the research areas they use . Something that can help others and make it less daunting edpecially when using advance rules because the advance rules is great once you have mastered it . Maybe share the countries and nations that you have done .

Think it would be a great benefit to others

We mods try to be transparent about our role, we are not paid by SI, we don't walk any company line or are being told what to do. We are just regular users who have been asked to help out keeping order here.

I would be all for an AMA. Not sure what we mods could bring to that table though. If you have questions for me, PM me and I'll answer as well as I can. :)

    Law and Order SIU 😊

I decided to give it a shot and see what the fuss is about, so I put my back-up goalkeeper (Roefs) in as my starting striker.

It's true. It works. Guy scored a screamer and had a beautiful assist too. Don't spend your cash on a back-up striker boys, just put your goalie up front.

What an absolute joke this series has become.

But one game doesn't prove anything . Allison scored a screamer for Liverpool once too . Maybe do a whole year and see

  4. Steam are a business that sells games . Of course they are going to talk it up as they have paid for them . The best revues are always on default . You have to search for the bad ones . Revues from other companies like IGN or PC Gamer types are done as soon as the game is released and then never heard from again . The Gaming world is corrupt like the Music Industry . Paid for revues are prevalent just like music . Its Mafia controlled from the USA . Ever wonder why music is the way it is now ( no rock n roll ) . As for this forum it's no wonder they don't come on here as the abuse some people give is disgusting.  But you do get passionate as I have done and regretted it . Unfortunately there are some good companies out there that get lost in the vast universe of corruption . SI is from my point of view a good company but they have lied at at times to the buyers . J -League for example ? Live and learn that you can't fool the public . But finishing this little rant is that not all games have forums that are as prolific as this . I bet this has got to be one of the biggest so to say they don't read it they would be idiotic not to . It's a great way to monitor the game out there in the public domain . Can't wait for FM25

If you sort by "average points" as the first tiebreaker it will actually use that before points. So when teams have played each other an uneven number of times they can be sorted by average points, although you may prefer not to. I managed to rescue the Cascadia Cup (inactive in the default rules) this way, some years one of the teams will play 2 more games than the other two, and this way they don't get the easy win

    Yes good idea thank you

Buffalo Cup could be something about the Prairies, or Western Canada, and include Manitoba clubs too. Edmonton and Calgary had the Wildrose Cup previously but that's because it's the Alberta provincial flower.

London in the Golden Horseshoe is a stretch, could be something about the 401 Corridor or Southern Ontario/Great Lakes. The West Coast one could just be BC-themed, or something about the Pacific/Strait of Georgia, but actually the Juan de Fuca Plate is awarded by fans right now and used to be a similar rivalry cup between TSS and Highlanders.

Ottawa-Ville de Québec corridor I don't know much about, there's gotta be a suitable French name though

Thank you for replying . Forgot to mention though that each conference plays each other twice and only playes the other once . For this reason the teams do have to stay in there own conferences say like Valour who is from Manitoba otherwise they will only play the others once

  7. Hi

I have nearly finished my Canada file and have done some research ( As i am not from Canada )

I have basically turned Canada into and Eastern and Western Conference modelled on the USA format . The USa format has rivalry league to which i have implemented but i am a bit stuck on what to name these leagues .

As an example Portland , Seattle and Vancouver play in the Cascadia Cup in the USA which uses the results from the main league which are transfered to the Cascadia Cup .

So these are the names and teams i have at present

St Lawrence Cup ----- ----------De Quebec , Atletico Ottowa , FC Laval                                                ( 2 from Quebec and 1 from Ontario )

Buffalo Cup ---------------------- Calgary Colts , Cavalry FC , Edmonton 1795 , Regal FC                      (  3 from Alberta and 1 from Saskatchwen )

Golden Horseshoe Cup ----- Forge FC , FC London , York United , Windsor FC                                ( All from lower Ontario )

West Coast Cup ---------------- Vancouver FC , Victoria FC , Kelowna FC , Pacific FC , TSS Rovers     ( All from British Columbia )

Via Rail Classic ----------------- Valour FC , Halifax FC                                                                                ( 1 from Manitoba and 1 from Nova Scotia )

So 18 teams in 2 conferences of 9 teams with rivarly cups

So looking for some good naming suggestions for those regions that would be great as i am not to familiar with Canadas economic areas etc

So I got myself into fiddling with an editor and learned about nations being split into 3 groups - developed, developing and 3rd world. So western world in developed, plenty of 3rd world countries where you'd expect them too, nothing weird so far. So then I check Europe beyond "the west" - Hungary, Croatia, Czechia etc. They are labeled as "developing." Ok, this leads me to believe that "developing" is used as "not western." Alright, fair enough.

..except. WHY THE HELL IS TURKEY AND POLAND "DEVELOPED" WHEN NATION LIKE CZECHIA AND SLOVENIA ARE "DEVELOPING?" WTF?! Is this made by some ignorant American who goes "ugh, never heard of those places, must be poors, haha." Like really, WTF?! Either make them all "developing" or you are due to make a whole lot of them developed, if Turkey and Poland are supposed to have "developed" label. Both of them are significantly behind in both GDP per capita (SLO=27000€; CZE=25500€; POL=17380€; TUR=9800€)(2022 numbers) and Human Development Index (SLO=0.918; CZE=0.889; POL=0.880; TUR=0.838)(2021 numbers). Neither Poland nor (especially) Turkey have any business being above Slovenia and Czechia in development, and while Poland rates amongst top between other Slavic countries, there's probably whole bunch of them that would be above Turkey.

So what the hell SI? Are you just lazy? Are you trying to push an agenda? Why are Poland and Turkey receiving this preferential treatment above other countries that you labeled as "developing?"

    You have an editor "Right"

I have no doubt before you go into a match the result is already made and this is what plays out in the game My tactics, team instructions training don't have much impact on the game  my team can look good for 2 games win them then the next game away against a smaller team unable to score any goals. this game is unplayable

Often wandered how much the match is influenced by the changes we do . Tactic changes , opposition marking and Subs at crucial times seems to be the only options. Not sure Shouts have any influence to be honest . In real life a manager can yell as much as he wants but if a player or team are not playing well then shouting won't change much . But then that depends on how well you are respected as a manager .

Maybe someone from SI can tell us more
