This is interesting. So, you found that a player may accept a lower salary if his agreed playing time is higher?... Does this always work? Thank you.

I could have setup that screenshot better - typically what happens to my players is they want higher wages, I refuse, they get angry, I transfer list them, and then they go to another team and accept lower wages than I had offered. It seems to be a fairly common person managed vs AI managed team scenario.

Here I finally had the reverse happen! The player took a huge wage cut of 125k/pw and a reduction in playing time from star to important.

Hope that makes it clearer :-)

4-3-3, which I see is impossible to create a back 3 according to the experts earlier in this thread!  Tomiyasu is a FB(S) instructed to hold position and sit narrow, Gabriel on the other side instructed to stay wider.

Who said that? Was it one of the posts that got deleted?

Isn't a 4123 even easier to get a 3-1 out of? ;) Kidding aside, cool stuff.

Is this funny?  I find being labelled the 'Croatian Benteke' really funny.  I can't work out which player he is otherwise I'd make point of trying to sign him, anyone know?

They're missing an Oxford coma there, as it sounds like there is some magnificent striker who is both the Croatian Benteke and Miroslav Klose rolled into one! Now that's a heckuva player

  4. Ended up d i c k i n g about and made the following changes:

    image.png.d89b3e78253d6da769a06afd789223cc.png

    Back 4 stayed the same

PF/DLF/F9... honestly not sure it's a huge impact, but I like what the PF/Su gets me and can even drop to PF/De when need be. Have him going wide when we're in possession to help with the IW and BBM.

Changing to the BBM did require changing the wide guy to a WM/At, it means the leftside width doesn't hang back as much as seems to more easily pinch far post goals. While the BBM does hang back a bit now to provide a bit more cover on that side compared to the previous MEZ/At.

The CM/De is really just to avoid the ball-hogging of the DLP. Play still goes through him as often as not in the buildup, but just not to the same obvious degree it does when explicitly tagged as a playmaker.

In matches it does seem to be more attacking than previous and the 3-1-6 is set up the same as before, with the same vcaveat that the opposite side wide guy will take his time getting up the pitch. For the WB I am hoping to help mitigate that with the winger from Marseille I just bought who doesn't realise he's going to be turned into a WB :-)

Haha yeah, that is very much a Kevin Keegan score one more than you set up. I sometimes alternate between BBMs and BWMs against the bigger teams to provide that same kind of cover. I wanted that role to almost be a floater between the 3-1 and the other 5. Ahh right that makes sense with the FM21 vs 22 thing, I was finding that my DLPd was sitting very centrally on FM22 but again haven't tried it on 21.

I won't lie I used to Lurk quite a bit on your old Graham Potter thread a while back. Was a good read

In FM21 the DLP is central as well and will move with the ball (typically between the width of the 18yd box). So if the RWB gets deep that likely means the ball is on that side, so the DLP will be shaded over there and can provide some cover if we lose possession. I did try an RPM but that was overkill and was too far forward from the 3. If you could trust the central MFs to know who should drop and who shouldn't like IRL, I thought of trying two CMs... ach maybe I should just to prove it won't work.

I'd not thought much about additional cover, due to my less attacking style, but I think I will defo try a BBM for a run of matches (I have a Liverpool/Milan/Fulham/Milan run from my previous season I am using to test) and see what he does in buildup. Although then I think I would need a more attacking left W guy to offset that.

Thanks :-) Ya I find it easier to do tactics when I can visualise it in real life so potterball made sense to try. We'll see what he's playing come next Feb/March, when I get '22 and see how it fits in.

I love how without any communication we've managed to come up with two completely differing ways of achieving the same principles from very similar starting points within FM22. Do you not find that having the DLP on the opposite side to your back 3 that you sometimes find a gap in between the 3 and the 1? I noticed personally when I played with the DLP on the side of the Wing Back that I was getting swamped down the other side of the pitch?

    That's cool! Small world :-)

Ya you're definitely a bit more up and at 'em then me, but roles/formation is pretty much a mirror image.

Interestingly I went DLP opposite the FB so that he would provide some additional cover when the CWB/WB goes on the attack. I felt if the DLP and the FB were on the same side it would be too defensive. And I wanted the FB to cover the Mez and W when they pushed deep.

I have played around with a BBM/CM instead of a Mez, but I felt those 2 roles were dropping deeper more than I'd like.

I'd been using a 4132 or 343 for so long, I'm still trying to figure out how to improve this. I am going to have to try you CM pairing and see what happens.

Edit: forgot to mention I am still on FM21 so not sure how much different the 21v22 ME would react.

  7. Been looking for something different for my upcoming season and have been playing around with this, for another way of getting a 316:

    image.png.e465efa413a1e63afcbb860301836952.png

Position wise: I've been trying different striker roles on the right, changing the CWB to WB, and the DLP between De and Su.

TIs: playing with the width, adding overlap right to try and prod the WB to move up sooner

PIs: FB get narrow, right BPD get wide, W stay wide... otherwise nothing too much

Getting the shape from the build up:

    image.png.886d368e88610ce742beb13174339e47.png

    image.png.942193077f78c3e2c6406a3543626f80.png

The trickiest bit is getting the WB to push wide of the IW, when the ball isn't on the right side of the pitch. But once the ball shifts he will do that job and the key thing regardless of depth is that the width is maintained.

  8. 31 minutes ago, Fieldsy said:

Thanks ok so the issue with being underpowered and not cutting in seems to be isolated to inside forwards?

Anecdotally vs an IW: yes. Vs other outside options IDK.

Of course YMMV, but if you do a test and run through 3 or 4 matches with the same tactic once with an IW and once with an IF you should be able to see a difference in the contribution of that player.

  9. 24 minutes ago, Fieldsy said:

I know there is a bug with inside forwards cutting in effectively but does this also apply to inverted wingers as well? If the answer is yes, has anyone found a difference if they are started further back in the formation a la right midfielder

In FM21 (and it appears carrying over to 22) IWs are the clear winner over IFs.

I currently use an IW(A) right midfield and he scored as many goals as he did as an IW(A) in the attacking tier and contributes more all round from midfield as opposed to further up

I am in the year 2030 with brighton, I have won 2 premier leagues and 1 champions (also 2 conference league, 3 carabao cup and 2 FA cup), I think I am a legend in the team, I have a balance in the bank of 500 million and I have verified in the calendar that since 2022 (second year of my career) in all my home games I have 31,800 fans, which is the maximum.

I have never had the option of expanding the stadium but I always had the option of building a new one and always at the beginning and end of the season I asked to build one, and they always answered me the same thing "we believe we can achieve our ambitions without having to go away current home "

Really? We are a top team from England, regular in the Champions League and with a lot of money (with which I no longer know what to do) and we have a stadium of 30k spectators that in number of spectators is in rank 15 in the premier, I'm starting to dislike long term saves because something like this always happens to me, whether with a large or small club I cannot build a new stadium.

I don't know what kind of programming is behind this but it should be simple, if you have money, enough fans and a good reputation (you are a team of champions) you should be able to build a new stadium without restrictions, but well I hope someone enlightens me and explains me in depth and detail how this works.

    Thanks.

Also Brighton here (2033/34 season right now) with a shedload of trophies and a 1 Billion pound transfer kitty, #1 ranked club in Europe, and they always say no and Tony sold to a consortium many moons ago.

As the one poster above says, the board sees everything being achieved so they are not interested. I did get capacity raised to 32500 back in the mid 2020s and always sellout but that's been it.

It would be cool to see another expansion in the 35k to 40k range, but so far nothing. Apart from what is hardcoded into a club/owner, I always look at away fan totals and assume those would always need to be maxed to show the interest in the club and we don't always take up our whole alotment.

do not know if this is  the correct place  to ask but how do I see  what position are picked in this picture  I know it is a 4231 but I wanna see each position picked in the  match highlights

Assuming '22 is the same as '21, when you watching the match from the tablet there is an option to view the opposition's formation and after you're 15 or so mins into the match you should see their positions display:

Does anyone know why my Scouting Centre isn't showing asking price when sorted by List rather than Cards?

For example, this player is available for €575K. However, if you switch to List view, there's no MAX AP shown, as if the club was unwilling to sell. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Seems quite inconvenient for people that prefer List view.

    rfXkKsD.png

    HwLeSvl.png

I thought Max Ap was only for players that had a known value cost (whether that be some kind of clause or an explicit value they were transfer listed for).

Estimates from your scout, wouldn't be included, unless that 575k is for some kind of clause/listing value.

I don't think tenure at the club has a whole lot to do with it. Just board approval. I asked for an affiliate as one of my first acts taking over Rennes and was able to give my recommendation from that first one onward. I've been granted four affiliates, all with loan out and first option on their players. I'd say that's fairly standard. Only downside is I've yet to be offered a domestic option.

Previously, with Konyaspur, they were completely unwilling to even consider adding an additional affiliate (start with a lower tier club in Konya), regardless of how long I'd been there or successes along the way. It seemed like the board was just coded to be completely opposed to adding any additional affiliates. I've encountered similar in previous saves, although, it seems uncommon.

Interesting, so ya that is the same as me then - no domestic options, which is a real pain when I don't want to lose the accumulated days for a British passport and/or the home grown options.

  14. 5 minutes ago, michaeltmurrayuk said:

Have you been accepting any of their offers? As the game generally moves onto the next type of affiliate once you have one of the existing types, so rejecting the options means your board is more likely to next time offer you different teams of that type rather than different types of affiliates.

Though from the achievement stats it does look like it's harder to get the option to pick a club in FM21.

Interesting. Being Brighton we come with Union SG and then I accept a Romanian team and then picked Brondby IF as the best of a bad lot. All attempts since they have been equally rubbish so I have always declined. I may try the accepting bit and see if it improves as such.

    Thanks for the tip!

  15. 10 years in - club legend - 5 league titles... and I still get absolutely rubbish affiliate options from Eastern Europe and Scandinavia - I don't even have the leagues loaded.

Just so frickin stupid, still cannot choose and get actual useful clubs to loan players to... obviously offering up nothing useful here just having a whinge.

I'm glad you guys have input here... But still no one answered my question whether the game identifies that my club has growth potential as metro or as a single city, which is six time smaller than metro.

We are talking about Rouen here. I think I will delete towns in the surroundings and enlarge Rouen population in return...

Rouen in Normandie? The city is 100k+ with a metropolitan area of 600k+

In FM money, that's more than large enough to be a top reputation club and appear near or at the top of the club lists over time.
