I have the same question.. Signed alot of promising youth players, where the transfer where to be completed years later.. but now most of them Get rejected because of this limit... I dont know where to check this and what period this accounts for?

Per the GBE doc, but this refers to calculating the points totals for if the player qualifies for a work permit or not:

    image.png.5c7243506f71a7729af73118ddbd76d6.png

In regards to transfers and registration a season "should" be July 1 to June 30 the following year, based off how FIFA and general player reg's work. And in instances where the underage player is not yet 18, I would assume they do not count against the 6 u21 limit until they can finally sign and be registered. So you'd need to keep tabs on what the transfer date actually is in the Transfers screen.

For instance I have a kid (I'm in July 2023, who will not join until summer '24 at which point he will count against my 6 for the 24/25 season.

  2. Not sure what year you are in, in regards to squad building, but what looks like a nailed on Top 6 finish with an inside line for CL spot out of Stuttgart sure shows you've sorted things to this point :-)

So if you want a front foot formation to partner your counter, a couple simple changes to see what happens against lesser opposition (or save it till the preseason):

    • move the DM to the AM, change CM(a) to CM(s or d)
    • change DOE and line to 'Higher', and instead of more urgent across the board, split block with that front 3, maybe drop get stuck in
    • remove 'Run at defense'

PIs and traits notwithstanding, that's enough to have a more active, possessionish, higher up the pitch style vs the counter. See what movement you get and dig deeper into changes from there.

You could do loads of stuff obviously with the roles and TIs... DLF(s) instead of (a), depending on the AM and how they'd interact with the CWB change the BBM to a Mez so it doesn't bang into the AM... that's the "great" thing about FM you can fiddle to your heart's content and you've forgotten what you were trying to do in the first place.

Always interested in back 3/5 tactics, as that's what I've been messing about with here. Be keen to see how you evolve it and if there will be something neat I can nick (I mean inspiration) for my own tactic :brock:

The only thing that frusrates me with the game is the disparity of transfer fees. Whenever I want to buy a player I have to pay over the odds from their value but my best players can't command a fee that's above their value because when you negotiate the fee the teams pull out and the player gets unsettled and wants transfer listed. It makes it so frustrating.

Example: I bought Camavinga valued at £30mil had to pay £55mil, way over the valuation. Fine, he's totally worth it.

PSG come in for my player Tete, just won European player of the year etc, valued at £40mil. Tried to negotiate to £60mil and they withdrew. Player unsettled, wants to leave Ajax for PSG which is understandable, can't get anything above £45mil.

This happens with pretty much every transfer, to the point I don't actually want to make any transfers.

I feel your pain. Had one of my starting double-pivot's head turned during the winter window. Got a decent 50m offer against a 35m or so valuation but rejected it, we agreed if it got to 60m he could go. That offer never comes.

He eventually gives up the ghost and is happy to stay. Crocked player ratings + playing as a CM linchpin who doesn't take corners = value drop. Eventhough he's a key contributor on a team that finished 3rd, 3 points behind winners ManU.

Summer window we get a matches value 28m offer. Rejected. Player wants to leave... here we go again, yet with poor season rating (6.85 iirc) for a 23yr old who is better in June than Jan, we're not touching that 60m, so looks like we'll have to spend another 1/3 season with a key player having the hump.

I like the head-turned scenarios that arise, adds to the player management side of FM, but I don't like it one bit when the underlying bugs/unexpected behaviour that supports the immersion of that scenario, effectively ruins it.

  4. Right then, so for the 343 - 3412 - 32212 or whatever we want to call it for our wm. I've been way more successful with a two wingers + strike front 3 vs a two strikers + AM, but I had a think based on the last match and some of Potters other two up front efforts, which TBF seemed to get shelved when Lallana was out and instead it was Trossard/Maupay/Other across the front. Anyhoo, for the Newcastles of the world, something like this could work:

    2324_BHA_NewTac01.thumb.png.1ac609f9d4d03d53de6e93363f320cf7.png

The right-side FB could be S instead of D, but even with D, they are going to get higher up than BPDs as used in my tactics above. Strikers set to get wide + all of the front 3 set to roam should let the IWB-a and Vol get in and around the box as well.
Was thinking maybe to go DLP-D + Vol-s/a, but decided to go with a plainer DM-d with more speculative passing. Also thought maybe RPM instead of Vol or even a DM-s with a bunch of PIs. Gave it a test drive vs Bournemouth from the previous season in comp highlight mode and it seems OK, reckon a top side shreds the back 3 until I figure out better how to mitigate it.

Made the quick changes for matches against Spurs and Chelsea and again it looks OK in comp highlight mode, with a couple good goals. Having a proper back 3 of CBs does look more solid, but again I have no experience before tonight trying a one CB + two FBs. Other than that, didn't make any changes:

    image.png.382a3782342ab64936970af923f12af0.png

Not to patronize folks, as I'm sure it's already known what he's referring to or is googleable, but just to be sure 3yr old drawing lines added.

With that promising quick test, time to watch some full match mode action and see what's obviously working or obviously a bit pants and take it from there. Unfortunately I'm not sure there's a lot of room for improvement from our previous season's league results, but trying to do it again with a new tactic would still be interesting.

  5. Between other things and waiting for the last patch to hopefully fix a bunch of things (which it looks like it actually did very little, yeah no competition in the market) I've not been playing as much, but have completed 3 seasons. Have finished 2nd the last two, getting pretty darn close in 22/23.

The main tactic has stayed largely the same as the one above, with the one main change being dropping the W-A to W-Su on the left to help feed the beast, that is Seb and going from FB back to a WB-Su on the right due to the somewhat improved crossing of the latest patches. We did end up going from a team that spread the goals amongst the front 3 to focusing on the striker, but it did work out with our best goal total and differential in club history.

Brighton's latest result IRL - against admittedly hapless opponents - has got me interested in moving onto the next season, so how about that w-m?

My favourite thing about this FM is watching my fullback take a throw in to their winger with none of my players within 10 yards of him, for that winger to then run the length of the pitch and square it across the box for a last min winner for the other side. Wouldn't mind if it was a one off, but these throw-ins happen 10 times a game and result in a goal like this every now and then.

I would really like - genuinely like, not taking the **** - to have an option to throw attacking zone throw ins out for a goal kick for the opposition. That would genuinely lead to better results for my team.

Maybe you can do it but I haven't looked hard enough. I'd also like to take short corners all day long the last 15 mins of a match when winning, to stop the 4 on 2 counters the opposition has off of them, regardless of how defensive I set them up.

I sent my assistant to a press conference and he said he's open to discuss an offer for one of my best players, these doesn't make sense at all to an assman say in a press conference.

I always pay attention to the presser preview before sending the assman, if it mentions a specific player or 'transfer policy' I attend it to make sure that scenario doesn't arise. It's a pain, but ya the last thing you want is the assman saying - ya sure I'm good with star midfielder going :idiot:

Problem for me is that he's my captain, he's the most influential leader and he's 32 years old.

I don't think there's an upside to Aubamayang in FM21, he just seems really inconsistent.... I play a 4-2-3-1 with him as a CF and IF's on support he's managed 9 goals (In 20 apps) this year... ESR, Saka, Nelson And Odegaard have outscored him (In all comps)

IIRC his contract is up is 2023? I remember thinking about signing him on a free, as a super sub but he didn't want that.

The 'best' thing to do is use a preseason to remove the captaincy from him. Do it right after the last match and if there is any residual bad feelings amongst the squad, it'll be water under the bridge before the next season starts. I did that with a diminishing Dunk, warned him first, gave the captaincy to the asst, and moved on.

Would do the same with playing time. Try setting him to regular starter or impact sub (assuming he is on star player or important player right now?) and let it play out during the offseason.

Player conversation histories being intentionally removed is a very disappointing answer as well, it was a feature I often used when praising/criticising training, because if you so much as dare speak to a player one time too many in a given month, the player then is "sTaRtInG tO dEvElOp CoNcErNs AbOuT hOw HiS mAnAgEr Is TrEaTiNg HiM". 🙄🙄🙄

Agreed. It's easily the worst change from a squad management POV IMHO. I've whinged about it before, but I don't interact nearly as much with the players now and with morale being sooooo key to on the pitch play, it's another item, along with all the broken analysis options, that make playing well more difficult, subsequently reducing the enjoyment of playing FM.

One 'plus' players almost never get annoyed when you praise their quality training now. I've only had it happen once in 3 seasons. Whereas before you could quite easily overpraise someone for their training.

    yes thats what I mean!

I mean if you are at a lower league, you won't have such a high reputation as a manager, even after several years, but it still works to choose your affiliated club on your own. So as I said, your manager reputation doesn't have a direct influence on that.  The amount of years managing at your club as well your status with your board are the main criterias.

Do you know roughly how many years that would be?

I've just completed my 3rd season as Brighton manager and have won back-to-back Manager of the Year awards while finishing 3rd in the league both those times, after finishing 6th in year 1. I want an English affiliate to send youngsters to, to get going on their 5 years to a British passport and so far I only get unloaded leagues in Eastern Europe. Really annoying.

  11. Anyone else seeing this really stupid devaluations happening? I get the Prem overvalues players, but this is ridiculous. These guys (Ajer and Karbo and a couple others) are key contributors to my overachieving Brighton side and their value is absolutely tanking. Including Ajer screenshots, but he's not alone and It's not like they have expiring contracts, Ajer is good till 2025, Karbo is good till 2027.

This makes it a PITA to fight off bids as you get super lowballed and then they might get annoyed. I'm guessing having sub 7.00 ratings are doing this to them? Since they are playing important roles, but ones that don't get them key passes?

  12. Bumping this thread. In FM20 I took his teammate Eddie Salcedo instead and got a few decent seasons out of him before selling him on.

In FM21 I bought Sebastiano in the first Winter window and he did not disappoint in his first season going 18g 12a in 33 Premier League matches and winning some young player awards along the way.

Now in 2022/23 he's become an absolute sensation with 20g 4a in the first 17 matches, including this incredible stretch I've never seen a player have before:

    image.thumb.png.0c04b7267085dc9870b2c0fb371ed182.png

I managed to tie him down to a 5 year deal at 44k GBP week. Eventhough that runs until 2026 I reckon he might be due a new one long before the typical 18-24 months before expiration.

He does speak fluent English(He knew language before he came to my club) He did come in January 2031 so he is over 1.5 season(it will be 2 in January).

Do you think he can still get to his best?

Low aggression, bravery, jumping, heading, middling concentration, and fairly determined point to maybe a flat track bully (although determination and work rate are high). I could be wrong, but I remember reading something about 'fairly' types not being the greatest. Especially if you expect an IF to be getting inside the 6yd yard box to finish off far post crosses and the like.

What are his 5 cons in the coaching summary?

All that aside, his attributes are awesome pretty much across the board, bar those few I mentioned above. With first touch, passing, technique, off the ball, vision, work rate, I'd stick him in midfield and see what he can do. If he can be on the ball and be creative, without needing to get stuck in, maybe he can thrive as an AP/Mez/RPM/CM(s)? Anyways YMMV, but that's what I'd try to do to unlock his talent.

  14. Too late for FM21 I assume, but something that will get into FM22...

I don't know about others, but Chinese Super League teams have been a great way to cash out on good but not great players over the years and maybe reality will come crashing down on the football simulation world next year and a new destination for those players will be needed.

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/mar/02/china-crisis-jiangsu-demise-wider-football-struggle

  15. Burnley were relegated after 20/21 and I bought him for my Brighton side - 42m GBP and 80k/week with a 99m release clause.

He was worth it IMHO. 15G 5A 31 league matches as an AML winger. Helped us seriously overachieve with 77pts (78 goals scored) and a 3rd place finish in 21/22.

This season his goals are down, as we're feeding the beast (Seb Esposito) instead of being more spread out amongst the AML- ST - AMR, but he's still contributing with a 7+ rating.

Funny how it’s like we’re all playing a different game. Perhaps that’s why SI has so many unhappy customers, more than maybe they should.

Since the patch, my winger with many PoM, assists and goals, has gone completely cold, producing nothing, but only hits the ball against the defenders legs over and over again.

my striker with 30 goals in 22 games has 0 in the next 10. His positioning has tanked and he doesn’t get into good position anymore, just lags behind everyone else. And I even threw him in a couple friendlies to boost his confidence.

players can’t string passes together, get caught standing around and tackled by players two leagues below them. It’s atrocious what’s happened.

These were never issues before this patch. Is it caused by the patch? Who knows! One person says one thing, the other says the opposite.

we can only play our saves as they happen to play out.

Ya I was just speaking to the crosses which for me is not the 99% blockfest it previously was, not that things are super terrific.

My defenders - the same back 3 as the previous season, yet improved both individually and working as a group - stand around with the thumbs up their backsides watching give and go's pass them bye they'd have snuffed out the season before.

Like you I see different match behaviour, but I am loath to be too whingey about it, lest I'm told I have a crap tactic ;-) Which may or may not be true, but it still shouldn't account for obvious match play behaviour changes.

  17. 1 hour ago, amazarashi said:

    It was worse before?!

I'm having an average of 10 per game (there were games where I had 15 and 17 lol) and I don't even focus on wingplay.

My RB has 11 crossing but he is like this and my RW are this and this.  It happens less on the left side, don't know why.

    Good players :-)

But yes, getting 20/game was not uncommon and I play through the middle theoretically. I mitigated it some by using FB-S, but with this latest update I have been able to return to WB-S. And since I used an IWB on the opposite side, those corners were largely a result of just my DRL and AML.

  18. 2 minutes ago, amazarashi said:

I apologize if this was already talked about, but I'm getting desperate seeing how almost every single time one of my players is going to cross to the box only to wait until an opponent is upon him to cut the ball out.

I don't know if this was already an issue or if i'm noticing only now because I'm seeing more of the highlights but it's really taking my enjoyment of the game.

It's not as bad as it was - seriously this latest patch has it at its least bad state. For good players/crossers of the ball they are actually able to carve it around defenders now, whereas before everything was blocked and also the average # of corners has come down indicating less of that behaviour.

That said, yes you will see more crosses blocked than in FM20 for instance. They have to mitigate ME behaviour somehow to keep goals/chances down, like in FM20 where 1:1s were missed way more than you'd except.
