  1. Missed FM20 altogether(couldn't put 18 down)but 21 has completely sucked me in.

First season down and overall a very successful one.

It took a while to finally settle with this tactic and its roles and duties, quite frustrating at times but now the football is really good.

Somehow we found a way yo fumble our way to the Champions League final where we(somehow)came up against Benfica

    image.png.1135d8539e12f6557ccc579be0bdd168.png

4 defeats:D including a 1-5 thrashing at Porto after going a goal up.Had to be complacency because we were in cruise control.

Transfer wise we did a fair bit of business

These were the ones that I made, Kessie was a great buy, he shored up the left side of midfield, covering for Telles/Shaw who both bomb foward.

I'm just approaching season 2 pre-season.Made a few transfers and sold one or two so i'll post an update once the season is about to kick off.

This is the 2nd season. After 3 transfer windows....

I am struggling to break down teams who sit deep though. Long shots after long shots. :seagull:

It helps if you train all forward, attacking midfielders to "refrain from taking long shots" and "look for pass rather shoot" also, although  O-Zil has gone back to very fluid, I find playing structured keeps my team playing to the system which helps to minimise the long shots.

@Ö-zil to the Arsenal! curious if you would be using shorter passing or much shorter passing for your benfica team if you were in fm 20?

I think if you were trying some form of possession based system then shorter passing(maybe much shorter),play out of defence and work ball in to box would be high on your list of TI's.

I have pass into space added to that as I do want a bit of attacking intent or at least train a couple of your better players with the PI of tries killer balls often.

Well I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping Chambers long term as he’s currently 6th choice and none of my other CBS are even in their 30s yet so chances are I’ll find a better regen before he makes the grade

Hubbard is already on quickness training and is being restrained at CB so his game time will come over both positions.

Also I’m almost at the wall in terms of frustration with the game itself at the moment, I think I’ve just hit the part of the season when your team goes through a bit of a lull and don’t play well but the last 4-5 matches I’ve played I’ve lost 3 of them drawn 1 and won the other but in all 3 games I’ve lost I’ve had more than 70% of my shots in the game on target and my players just don’t finish and it’s getting frustrating to constantly see your striker smash it straight at the keeper every time.

i didn’t rage quit the game I finished the match save and then turned off but played Chelsea last night and had 15 shots with 11 on target. Chelsea has 6 shots and 2 on target and they won 2-1, that got my annoyed but chelsea are still a good team in my save at the moment so I carried on but after that I played Bournemouth 25 shots, 17 on target and nothing Bournemouth has 9 shots and 3 on target and won 2-0 and I save turned off and I dunno it’s just getting a bit of a pain in the ass now

Well I just went to Anfield and out played them and lost 0-4 with a Maguire mistake,Dias gifting a penalty, a Salah deflected free kick and a Wiljnaldum 35 yard screamer, while I cut through them half a dozen times and missed everyone.:seagull:

I'm playing them both, but I have to lol. On my normal save I played them for till january then loaned them out I htink, Ching is still there after 6 seaosns, Gomes was sold

Update:- I am getting disappointed with Gomes, he's not really performing how I want, in the summer I am either going to sell him or loan him out, hes had a lot of chances and now Mejbri has overtaken him in the starting 11. Same with Chong, he's starting to fall behind James and Sotona and he doesn't fit my right sided role so don't know what to do with him, could retrain him for the AM spot but Mejbri is owning that

Have you tried him on the left as Inside forward(A)?His long range shooting should see a few belters going in the back of the net.

I was just curious about PIs although I don't actually use any other than 'close down more' on my front three. I hope nobody out there is telling Xhaka to tackle harder!

I think you should just join the darkside & begin playing FM20 ;) (although I'm sure somewhere there is an updated database for 18). I'm actually in December 2022 so my team is a little different although the majority of the current team still start. Major signings have been Lautaro Martinez to replace Firmino & Kai Havertz who plays as one of my midfield three.

I'm currently playing on 'attacking' but because of how many support roles I've assigned my 'team fluidity' is "very fluid". I think you mentioned it a few posts back but I think some of the top managers in the world today would actually fall under "very structured" (Guardiola; Klopp; Poch & probably even Bielsa) as everything they do is so automated. As you know in FM20 we don't have control over the 'team shape' & I'm not sure I've even seen highly structured come up when I've created a tactic. One possible way to move towards a more structured approach would possibly be to use "more disciplined" as a TI but I'm not sure what effect this has on individual players creative freedom.

I never got around to watching the Tifo video that you posted recently nor have I ever thought about the effect that having a playmaker would have on your team in transition.

If anyone knows where to find one, please point me in the right direction.

    I'm still playing 18.

  7. Been a long while since I posted anything, having an absolute blast playing this years version.

    First team tactics

    8ZuuNQM.jpg?1

Shamelessly taken from Rashidi, minus a fair few instructions.I prefer letting ppm's influence what happens during a game.

We don't score bucket loads but we don't concede either in fact just 4:eek: in 23 league games.

Although this game came out of nowhere.

    g7B8A1x.jpg?1

The Carabao Cup was won with an easy 3-0 win over Leicester, we've got Spurs next in the FA Cup 6th round and Juve at home in the 2nd leg of the Champions League 1st knockout round.

  8. First season finished and it was a close run thing between us and Arsenal

    First season transfers in

    fXfnYjv.jpg?2

Chiesa was a solid buy with 20 assists even with the (bug) of getting to the byline and shooting from crazy angles.

Ruben Dias in from Benfica was a no brainer as he is a beast as was Florentino Luis also from Benfica, a fantastic DM.

Haaland at £17.5m was a steal even though he hasn't set the world on fire with his goals return and Rolando Mandragora was a solid CM who came in from Udinese for a relatively low fee to bump up the numbers in midfield.

    Second season transfers in

    jUrNZb9.jpg?2

I am trying to go domestic with transfers so in comes Chilwell,Abraham,Godfrey and Rice all for silly money(instalments),Bruno Fernandes had to come in from Sporting because I wanted a hard working goal threat in the AMC position.

    Tactic

    DQ4LbrX.jpg?1

It took almost all season to tinker around with the formation/roles and duties but I feel like I have something solid to go into season 2 with.

On the trophy front, along with the Premier League we also beat Ajax 3-1 in the Europa League final.

My forward has 27 goals in 40 games in the season I'm in. Many of which have came via through balls. I play with two wingers (who I sometimes change to IWs or IFs depending on the opposition), so the majority of assists being from crosses is something I would expect.

You have wingers that cross:applause:impressive, so in your save they don't run to the byline and then stop dead and invariably either cut the ball back or(if they don't get robbed of the ball while standing still)play a square ball into the box.Let's have a few examples of your winger crossing the ball into the box.

Like I've said earlier absolutely immersed in this years game but work is most definitely needed on wing play.
