But how do we know exactly what combinations of tactics and instructions are broken?

If I have a good season, do I enjoy it and try to repeat it the next season, or do I say 'broken tactics' and restart the game?

You don't know, but the developer does if the save is uploaded. If you think it is unrealistically easy, upload the save. If you think you've just had a good season, don't.

I managed to be unbeatean with real madrid in my first season. Yeah sure managing real is not that hard but if it is that easy, than managing top clubs will be a suffering. It should be harder

    What tactic did you use?

Positive Gegenpress with lots of PI's by any chance?

Upload your save to the bugs forum if it's too easy and then it will be reviewed :)

You do know that Fulham are allowed to TRY to play attacking football, don't you?

There have been some poor teams in the past, like Norwich last season, that TRY to play attacking football.

The problem is, this game lets you massively overachieve when you do.

You can't be suggesting that we're only allowed to play a certain way depending on the team you pick.

Why even play at all then? Should we just pick a team to 'follow', let the game choose their tactics, and sim the whole game unemployed?

    I don't think anyone is suggesting this at all.  I think people are saying two things;

1- Unrealistic input is more likely to result in an unrealistic output

2- It is clear that overly attacking tactics allow you to massively overachieve as you have said.  This doesn't mean that the game should be made easier, it means the people posting entire seasons of holiday mode and everyone else complaining about it should upload evidence/saves in the bugs forum so that it can be fixed and then playing attacking football with a poor team won't see you winning the league every year.

No one is arguing that overly attacking tactics result in overachievement.  We are just encouraging people who have evidence via a save to upload it, and in the meantime stop playing that way until it is fixed so they can get some enjoyment from their games.

The foreign player limits are fine, the lack of ability to get a work permit for anybody other than a decent Prem player is completely wrong and unrealistic.

Why?  This is exactly how it was in the 90's before EU employment law forced the English league to change.  The first Italian to play in England was in 1995, not long after the rules had changed.

That was the last time England didn't operate in line with full EU employment law/free movement rules.  I'm not sure it's as unrealistic as you think?

Yes, having a simulation of future trade under the various options has certainly allowed the penny to drop for some.
Those without an interest in that PC game genre get their chance to see how good an idea Brexit was for real in a month.

If "Remain" had just gone with "Brexit will make it harder for your football club to sign decent foreign footballers", I reckon we would still be in the EU tbh

Lol I'm not even sure what is even being argued.

Nothing constructive to this conversation, mate.

Basically someone has gone on holiday after setting up an unrealistically attacking tactic and done well a couple of times.  They are then saying that this proves the entire game is "easy" and needs to be made harder instead of just posting evidence of what is clearly an overpowered tactic in the bugs forum.

It takes away from the entire argument/discussion that has been happening for the last few days.

It's like someone sitting in a near inaccessible/buggy area of a map on an FPS game, killing everyone, then demanding that they still be allowed to sit there but everyone else should be harder to kill.

It wouldn’t be fair in the grand scheme of things, but football always seems to be given “allowances”, for example playing again in Lockdown. Money speaks

It hasn't always been like this though. There were foreign player quotas here 25 years ago. We had to change because it was against EU employment law.

The 17 homegrown players rule exists and is in use now.

Football seems to be hoping to get around these things by asking for footballers to be considered as "entertainers", which will mean far less restriction compared to your average Joe when it comes to work permits.

I honestly can't understand why SI have decided to flog the Brexit dead horse again this year and attempt to predict various possible outcomes. Especially considering it is less than 2 months to the real decision.

Because it is unlikely to stay as it is and the actual outcome won't be known for a couple of months*. Once it's known, they will change it and that'll be that.

*Would be stunned if the actual impacts are known the second we leave.

I have never changed detail level, effectively running whatever the default settings are to the 13 nations and 28 playable leagues that I normally run. In terms of game speed, how much impact does changing more of the top playable leagues to full detail have? Are there any benchmark threads that cover this?

I am upping a nation a week to full detail in my save in preference order, and am going to stop when it gets anything like slow. Upped 5 nations to full so far and not noticed any difference. Will depend on your computer though.

  8. I personally play using LLM rules, always have. You do a lot of these things anyway, such as making your own tactics and only signing players your scouts have suggested, but the whole point is playing as realistically as possible.

I think there also has to be an element of self control. For example, you mentioned that you "don't do manual training so I can't just exploit days off" - I find this a bit strange. Why not just do manual training and not use an exploit? Ie, just set up logical training regimes and see what happens, tweaking them as you go? Honestly, I've been playing since Champ Manager on the Amiga, and before I read you saying that just then, I not only had no idea that it was an exploit at all, but would never have thought of doing that because in the real world it would be silly.

You were talking to people in the other thread earlier about the fact that you are excellent at the game. Maybe you are mate, fair play to you. If you are though, I don't really understand why you are expecting Liverpool - a team that has just won the league with a record points total - to offer you any challenge at all. I'm awful at the game but reckon I could do ok with Liverpool.

I know it's not the answer you wanted, but the challenges tend to be found playing as realistically as possible starting properly from scratch. For someone actually good a the game, the best team in one of the best leagues in the world is going to be a bit of a breeze.

I very much doubt the number of folk playing FM who never ever have the Steam connected to the internet is even worth mentioning, however, even if it is, if you have even a passing understanding of statistics and the sample sizes needed for accurate extrapolation, then you'll know the figures would largely stay the same.

    Fair.

Generally I expect the arguments come from folks mostly setting their rep high, using good teams with downloaded tactics and signing the FOTM players and wonder kids.

    Also fair.

This is the whole point of difficulty levels.

Person A finds normal mode enjoyable.

Person B finds harder mode enjoyable.

Yes to improved AI which means transfers, tactics and squad building are improved from an AI perspective.

No to making things arbitrarily harder by boosting stats or fitness or what have you for the opposition.

Pretty certain that literally everyone in this thread agrees tbh. Feel like we are all arguing in the same direction.

Orrrrrrrr, maybe SI improve the already goodME so that it is harder to exploit in simple ways

If everyone who is saying it is too easy are just exploiting the match engine then this whole thread is a waste of time.

And this is my fear. What I will say is that if high pressing tactics are OP, then that needs tweeking. I don't use them. But I should be able to without feeling like it is an exploit.

  12. Surprised anyone thinks he is "too good". He's clearly an unbelievable talent in real life already at 20 and is likely to be amongst the top strikers in the world for the foreseeable.

Also think it's unlikely he will be at Dortmund beyond this season tbh. The release clause exists IRL for that very reason.

Yeah i heard it's based on the touch version, which is fine.  Would like to know if it's releasing next week. One article said it was, but for a game releasing next week, there is no information about the game.

The PC version of touch has been delayed until 1st December I think. Would be surprised if the Xbox version came out on 24th November.

This is completely the attitude of those that don't want anything to make the game harder...I don't find it easy, so you can't either.

Any other game where so many people find it so boringly easy would introduce some form of difficulty but people on here take it as a personal insult to them, rather than just an assessment of their FM skills.

I think almost everyone wants the game to be realistically challenging.  I think the overall concern from those of us that aren't convinced that it is too easy is how things would be made more difficult.  If we're talking about improvements to AI tactics, squad building, etc, then fair enough.  My concern is that things would be inflated against the player which would not only kill the simulation/realism aspect but also result in people kicking off that the game is "unfair" - which happens just as much on the forum as anything else.

Also, these forums are quite a small sample size of the most dedicated FM players in the world.  If the casual gamer is picking the game up & getting hammered every week, they'll stop buying it and then SI won't be able to keep making it.  It is quite a difficult balance.
