I have done it before, but I can't remember the files or which line of code. What do I need to change so that the scoreboard uses the full team name as opposed to a 3 or 6 letter abbreviation?

I guess it was a bit of both in that respect.

Would the preferred formation of your HoYD have any effect on the sort of players that would appear in the youth intake?

Let's just say you prefer to play a 4-3-3 DM Wide. In an ideal world, you would have top level coaches with the same preferred formation. But... What would you do if you played a formation that wasn't a typical formation? Like, a strikerless formation, an asymmetrical formation or a Total Voetbol recreation. What formation would you look for in your coaches in that scenario?

Let's say, for example, you play a 4-3-3 formation, but have different playing styles for different scenarios: More attacking for going behind More defensive when ahead More possession based How would you go about training these in order to raise familiarity and cohesion?

I'm not currently at my computer but I have an idea for a tactic and would like some help with something. What I would like to know is, what roles are, essentially, a "blank slate"? And, by "blank slate", I mean similar to the CM(s) in that it has no hard coded instructions.

Is there a limit to the number of changes you can make to kits? One of the teams I've created keeps getting given a third kit and the home and away keep getting changed back to blue and white respectively. This is becoming annoying as verifying the file takes ages.

Ideally, I want to have a similar setup to the MLS in that there is an East/West conference setup for the CPL. But, 2 conferences of 8 teams isn't enough and I don't want to go around sticking random teams in there just to make up the numbers. I would like to bring the likes of Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Thunder Bay and FC Manitoba "home" though, but I doubt Thunder Bay and FC Manitoba would be at a CPL level and, given how the CanChamp plays out, the 3 MLS sides "should" walk the league. There are definitely enough teams to use in order to replicate an MLS style pyramid, I mean, the MMSL has over 70 teams and both Vancouver leagues (VMSL and VISL) are pretty full Maybe that is a project for down the line?

The issue with the MLS is going to be the draft. If I recall, unlike the CPL draft, there is a degree of hard coding involved with the MLS drafts.

I gave them a transfer embargo until January 1st (season starts in April and they still take part in the draft) of their first season.

I got it sorted now. I took what you said about the UIDs, remade Windsor, Kelowna and Bridge City to give them higher IDs than Vancouver and, with a bit of tweaking in the registered teams tab, it now works how it should.

To a league without hard coding (like the MLS), it is kinda easy. I've just added 8 teams to the CPL over a 4 year period. You just have to duplicate the league rules and remember to do the rankings as well.

I'm not trying to replicate the MLS expansion, I've done this with the CPL in previous versions of FM but this season, it just won't work (so far). Yes, Vancouver have a higher UID. I will try that fix and see if it makes any difference. What I did notice is, when I registered Vancouver for 2023, it replaced Ottawa with Windsor. I even went as far as registering every team for every year, but then, even when telling the league to pick "all teams registered for comp and year", I got an error in 2025 about not finding rules for a league with 16 teams when there is only 12 there.

I am having trouble adding expansion teams to the CPL. I have been able to get the league to expand from 8 teams in 2023 to 10 teams in 2024. But that is as far as I can get. When testing, the league jumps from 10 teams in 2024 to 16 in 2025, yet I am trying to increase it by 2 teams a year. At present, I am getting an error reading "Canadian Premier League: could not find rules for division with 16 teams". However, there are only 12 teams registered for the competition in 2025. Other times when testing, it plays 2025 with only 10 teams. I have registered teams in the appropriate tab in the database section and again in advanced rules. When I have done the same for 2024 and 10 teams, it works as it is supposed to. But after 10 teams, it just wont work. What am I doing wrong?

I have tried a couple of different things, and I can get it to work correctly for the first season (2023) with the original 8 CPL teams. However, for the 2024 season, Vancouver again get replaced by an expansion side that are due to join in 2025. I can't see why it is always Vancouver that get replaced. I also had to register the original 8 teams for 2023 in order to prevent any of them from being replaced.

Ok, this is a weird one. I have expanded the Canadian Premier League to go from 8 to 10 teams in 2024, and from 10 to 12 teams in 2025. However, in 2023, Vancouver are replaced by Windsor who aren't even registered until 2024: Vancouver don't actually join until 2025. What am I doing wrong? I haven't even touched Vancouver and they are in the database from the start.

Starting this year, Canada have introduced League2 Ontario. This league is for '2' or 'B' sides and potential expansion sides. The format is 3 conferences with the top team from each, and the best 2nd placed side, going on to play each other in a knockout to determine the champion and promotion. All teams will face each other team in their conference twice, once at home and once away. The winners of the three conferences plus the best 2nd placed team will qualify for the League2 play-offs, made up by two semi.finals and the final. The winner of the play-offs will be crowned as League2 winner and will be automatically promoted to the 2025 League1 Ontario Championship alongside the losing finalist as the Championship division will expand to 12 teams for the next season. The losing semi-finalists will play each other in the promotion play-offs and the winner will finally face the last placed club of the Championship division to eventually replace it in the 2nd division. However, my understanding is that '2' or 'B' teams can't be promoted. What would happen if all the teams that qualify for the playoff are either '2' or 'B' sides? Can this even be done within the editor? I am still trying to confirm whether or not the '2' teams cannot be promoted, but I will tag @yellowsweatygorilla as he may be able to confirm this either way.

What do you mean "reducing the number of matches"? I'm only trying to test 1 level that has 8 games.

I originally asked this in the "Simple questions" thread, but after looking on Google, this may not be a simple question. When I try to test some competitions in the editor, I get an error which crashes the editor and creates a crash dump. I looked on Google, but I could only find information on crash dumps for the game and not the editor. I still tried the possible solutions, but I am still getting the error. This is now the 6th time in a row this error has occurred. Has anyone else experienced this?
