My mother has decided to phone her mums old neighbour to see how she is. Probably because my mother can't go five minutes without being on the phone, so was close to going into withdrawal symptoms.

Mentioned it earlier, but it's because, when Queen Victoria died in 1901, the horses refused to be cooperative, so instead they had it pulled by the guards. It's then been done at every one since. This will be the 5th funeral its happened at including Victoria's.

The Prime Minister of the time will always give a reading. Just glad it wasn't Johnson with all his over the top flamboyance and out of place pregnant pauses. He's probably seething.

In what regard? I'm watching with the parents so can't exactly turn over now.

Always feel for really young kids being roped into funerals. I get why the future king would have to be involved, but still doesn't sit right with me.

I'm watching it today because I'm utterly fascinated by this kind of thing. I understand why people would rather not watch it for sure. I suspect some are surprised I'd be watching it. But just something about it all that I find so compelling in terms of the spectacle of it all.

Yep. Today will be very much the bookend I think. There'll still be ralk of it of course, but as with most deaths, i expect the funeral will be when the majority moves on.
