Anybody who has to deal with IT sales calls in particular will love this. Just had an American cold caller leave a voicemail where they said that they'd first like to "express condolences for the loss of her Majesty the Queen". Like we're all personally impacted by it or something.

Then they should be allowing you the option to work. They've told you they're closing for the Bank Holiday. You're entitled to all bank holidays they recognise as additional leave per your contract. I'd get citizens advice on the blower tbh.

They're almost certainly in breach of employment law. If they're closing the office, that's their decision not the employee's and they need to accommodate that either by recognising it as an additional bank holiday, or providing the option to work.

It's an actual additional bank holiday. If they're closing the office, they need to put it in to your leave system to recognise it as a bank holiday. Otherwise, they need to provide you the option to work.

I think people are overreacting to the Prince Andrew thing. That's his daughter. I can see why people why people would feel it is inappropriate regardless of what we know about him. However, sometimes moments captured on camera can look worse than how they are in reality. Do people really think he's going to feel up his own daughter in front of the worlds cameras? What's more likely is that he's tried to keep hold of her, comforting her while he bends down and has not realised whats happening as he's doing so.

Also an example of irony being dead: Cadw cancelled events to celebrate Owain Glyndwr. I'm sure honouring the the English monarchy would have been what he would have wanted.

It's also an element of some countries had always held the view that they'd have this discussion when the Queen passed. So it's inevitable that those discussions will start up again as a direct result.

Some have been, others had decided to not do so out of respect of the Queen. It's those countries that may now be more likely to hold referenda on the subject too.
