  1. Vikeologist's 2045/46 Bayer Leverkusen Report We challenged for the title, but in the end Dortmund put an end to Bayern’s run of 11 straight titles. Bayern finished 2nd, us 3rd. Hopefully the Bayern manager will be sacked, but I’ve managed to improve things at Leverkusen on and off the field, so I should have a decent shot at the title next season. Surprisingly the club have never won the league so kind if want to be the one to make that happen having invested a season and a half already. The really annoying thing was going out of the cup at the Q/F stage, as Bayern and Dortmund also crashed out at the same time. We were unlucky to lose that match, and would probably have won the cup otherwise. We’re moving into a new stadium over the summer, paying for which is not helping our financial situation, but hopefully will start to pay for itself a bit. As we weren’t in Europe at all, I slashed the size of the squad, but should have the money to bring in reinforcements over the summer. I’ve already secured a 35 year old left winger, Jose Gomez, but 15 years ago I signed him as a 20 year old for Pumas and we won league, cup, Champions league and (with Mexico) a Gold Cup together. It will be fun to link up with him again at the end of his career. Top Goalscorer – Kieran Rees – 28 I dropped Rees halfway through the season, but he still scored one more goal than his successor. He’s not a bad player at all. Averaged a goal every 62 minutes, but he’s a backup now. With no continental football we only played 38 matches anyway, so this was never going to be a massive total. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Maximiliano Páez – 7.63 My current starting striker. If he avoids injury he might score quite a few next season. Man of The Match – Robert Fichtelmann – 7 An attacking midfielder, or at least that’s where I play him out of position. MVP – Nobody really stands out. Edit- Turns out that Maximiliano Páez was the league top scorer, despite only starting 18 of the 24 matches, so I'll give it to him Next up is the World Cup. 2. Vikeologist's 2044/5 Bayer Leverkusen Report I took over midseason. After 20 matches Leverkusen were in 11th. With 4 matches to go we were in 7th and a Euro qualifying position. Unfortunately those last matches were against 4 of the top 5 sides including Bayern, and we ended up in only 9th. However, one of the reasons I took the job was because the club were still in the cup. We made it all the way to the final, where we were thrashed by Bayern. There’s a huge gulf between us and them, but unfortunately the Bayern manager will leave them only when he retires, or when I manage to wrestle the title off them. I’m not confident that will be next season. I hoped that getting to the final would mean that we got the Europa League slot as the runner up, but no. The financial situation is not great, and not helped by failing to qualify for Europe. Not going to do any ratings as I was in charge for less than half the season. I suppose if a top job came up in Portugal or Scotland I would jump ship. 3. Vikeologist's 2044 France Euro Report My break from the challenge didn’t last long. Still no new club job though. I have Germany, Scotland and Portugal loaded, but absolutely nothing suitable came up all 43/44 season. So France. Despite being ranked 3rd on the world, we only have to reach the QF for me to keep my job, which should be doable. We lost the Nations league final on penalties. Frustrating because Holland finished the match with only 9 players, but we couldn’t break them down. It shows that we have a chance of winning this though. Just to make myself miserable I counted up how many major tournaments this will make. 13, (of which I’ve won 3, hardly impressive). Group Stage Second Round Quarter Final Semi Final After The Tournament
  4. Glad you're going to keep going. It's possible you will get another chance with Brazil or Argentina. Don't count out the winners of the Gold cup who should be in the following Copa America, though that may not be the case in the iteration you're playing.
  5. It should take about 15-20 played seasons. (By which I mean you might holiday in between jobs to get decent ones especially at the start). Do you think you have time to play at least 15+ seasons-worth? Roughly a season a week. Obviously it might take you longer. I've seen people doing this challenge, for instance on YouTube, who make dumb choices that will add many season to the challenge, even if their win rate is good. Can it be done in less than 15 seasons? Probably the best and most sensible players could. They might also need luck. I really don't think there's an added league that would be a good idea, unless it's to pick up the African Champions League, but even then i doubt it would speed things upo much, and would probably be a hindrance. I could give you a sort of walkthrough of how to do it quickest, but I think part of the fun is to figure stuff out yourself. (Full confession. I've never done the Pentagon exactly. I've done the ultimate, which is slower because you need to pick up other trophies, but international management might help with reputation).
  6. Probably only taking a break for one season. Luckily you're going to finish soon, which saves me trying to be the first to complete on FM23. When i first did the challenge, i took a long break within the challenge, managing Newcastle for about 8 seasons until we won the league and cup. I mean, i wasn't trying to not win for 8 seasons, but I knew it was a long term project.
  7. Vikeologist's 2042/43 PSG Season Report It was bound to happen eventually, but although I won the league fairly comfortably, I failed to win the cup (going out in the S/F to our inexplicably close rival Nice). That means I am now 2 cups behind my league total. I brought back a couple of old (in both senses of the word) faces for my campaign; Fabão from my successes at Flamengo, Man Utd and Brazil, and Stefan Schwarz from last season at Real Madrid. Fabão depressingly is in steep decline, even though he’s only 33. He also missed a lot of penalties. He only scored 6 out of 11 before I relieved him of that duty. On the national stage, France under me have limped their way to the Nations league S/F taking place this summer. I now really do intend to take a break from the challenge. Last summer I took over PSG in the middle of the World cup, and then took over France afterwards, and having put in all the initial work on those teams / squads, wanted to see at least one season through. Top Goalscorer – Bruno Le Bris – 42 Not a bad total as I didn’t play him in every match. I used him as a striker for PSG, but as an attacking midfielder for the national team. If I was staying longer, I’d replace him. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Luís Ferro / Bruno Le Bris – 7.57 Ferro is a right winger I brought in. Man of The Match – Bruno Le Bris - 9 MVP – Luís Ferro Ferro is basically our best player, in both attack and the wing, along with the defensive midfielder I brought in, Stefan Schwarz. This was not a great PSG team though. I knew that when I took over, and their mediocrity cost me the cup. Mostly they were brilliant. Sometimes rubbish. It kind of sucks that I waited so long to manage such a rubbish PSG team. 8. The advantage of Malaysia is that one of the cups takes place outside the league schedule, so you only have to play the cup if you take over at the right time.
  9. I can't find the post where I listed them (maybe I never did). I think this is a complete list; Malaysia Scotland Finland Northern Ireland Portugal Republic of Ireland Wales If anybody thinks this list is wrong / incomplete, let me know because I'll put it at the start of the thread soon.
  10. @leyrtj Might be useful to have a list of which nations have 2 cups. Malaysia and Scotland obviously. England and South Africa don't count because we have to manage there anyway. I'm sure I've done a list sometime, but unfortunately the search terms, two/2 domestic and cups all basically turn up every post in this thread.
  11. halfway through the French season. Nice are pushing us all the way. In fact they're probably in 1st with their game in hand. But guess who their top scorer (and only decent striker) is on loan from. Just a matter of whether I recall Theo Salter at the start or the end of the transfer window.
  12. I did quite a long build a nation, but my top striker didn't get that high. That nation was Scotland though. If I was going to give it a proper go, you'd want it to be one of the big nations and be able to bring in whatever supporting cast you want.
  13. I guess it's quite an old challenge. Here's one example of it, but I think the 'Danny Roberts' in question was even further back, Dafuge doing his challenge in about FM06 So it's all goals , leagues, cups, international, under your control.
  14. I think it is indeed going to have to be France, but it's a bit of a risk, because they don't have a great goalie. (There's an old guy I can try to tempt out of international retirement, but I have to look as much as 4 year down the line). The first team is a bit long in the tooth, but I think it's still a better bet than Italy or Portugal. It's a pity none of the Asian national jobs were vacant as the Asian Nations is in less than a year
  15. Vikeologist's 2042 Spain World Cup Report My 4th World cup in a row. I reached the semi-final with Brazil 4 years ago. Then I had to reach the Q/F to preserve my job. This time with Spain I’m expected to win it. That’s what I came here for, but so far the sum of the Spain team has proven to less than it’s world class parts. However, we are injury free, and teams do sometimes come together in tournaments. Group Stage Second Round Third Round Quarter Final Semi Final Final / 3rd Place Playoff After The Tournament
  16. Vikeologist's 2041/42 Real Madrid Season Report When I quit Inter at the end of last season, the Real Madrid manager took the job; which was convenient. Real’s wage bill was crazy, and I had almost no money to bring in new players because I had to reduce the transfer fund down to almost zero to free up any wages. So, success wasn’t guaranteed. By the halfway point we had a 7 point lead in the league, but then in the second half of the season Sevilla gained 52 points from the next 18 matches. That’s 17 wins (including against us) and a draw. Fortunately we still managed to keep our neck in front and wrap it up in our penultimate match. We also won the cup. We went out in the Champions league Q/F 7-6 on aggregate to (cough, thanks to me) defending champs Inter in a crazy second leg. But honestly, that was probably a good thing as we’d have had a crazy schedule otherwise, where thanks to Sevilla we had to (almost) win every match. Top Goalscorer – Luke Gillam – 59 I intended to have a bit more rotation of my striker, but Gillam maintained a good strike rate and started 43 matches in all competitions. He was rested quite a lot though. Given the goal tallies my strikers are netting, it would be interesting if I took over a side with an 18 year old striker who can start, as I might abandon the challenge in the hope of achieving the 1,000 goal challenge. Even in the Youth challenge I never came close to that number. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Luke Gillam – 7.87 Man of The Match – Luke Gillam – 10 MVP – José Antonio Palacios I had 4 exceptional players (none of whom are Gillam) who were the engine of the team, especially my attacking midfield pair of Palacios and Hugo Gonçalves. Palacios played a lot more though and is in my Spain squad for the upcoming World Cup, so he’s my man. I’m at the stage of the challenge where it’s becoming a bit of a drag, so it’s possible that after the World Cup I’ll do a season or two of something else. However, France and Germany might be more difficult if jobs at PSG and Bayern don’t become available. I particularly want to manage PSG, as in all the years of this challenge and other saves I’ve never managed them. I’ve been turned down a few times, and there was at least one time when I really wanted to manage them because my favourite player in all challenge attempts played for them. 17. 1. Any 10 domestic cups, where all top division teams compete, so no, doesnt have to be the big 5, but 2. Has to be 10 different nations, so can only count 1 of the SCOTTISH cups.
  18. Unless somebody can think of a reason why not, i am saying that it counts. Are they Completely separate leagues ? I'll have a look at the league this weekend if i have time, but i am saying yes to you.
  19. Landed straight on my feet. They approached me before I even noticed the job had become available. As they Flaming Well Should given my 2 UEFA Champion Leagues in a row.
  20. Vikeologist's 2040/41 Inter Milan (and Spain) Season Report Luckily after leaving Man Utd, a suitable job came up in one of the other 4 big nations. We won the league easily, but that still left the cup. Lose in the final and I’d probably have had to stay another season, but we won that easily. That just left the champions league final against my old Man Utd team. Don’t need to win it again, but we did, which was nice. 2 in a row. (For me). Obviously looking for a big job in Spain, Germany or France next. Will be progressively fewer suitable jobs. Top Goalscorer – Federico Nocera – 37 A bit of a misleading total. I use 1 striker and rotated two of them. Between them they scored 72 goals despite rarely if ever being on the pitch at the same time. Nocera was 32 when I signed him and has well over 100 caps for Italy, but had never previously played in the country at all, having presumably grown up in Australia. He had quite the homecoming. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) – Dániel Kis – 7.94 Not sure if this is a record for my save. Attacking midfielder. Man of The Match – Dániel Kis – 11 MVP – Dániel Kis Going perfectly at club level which is more than can be said for my International career. Left Brazil (who thanks to Copa America success with me are now ranked 1 in the world) for Spain who seemingly have much better players, but it’s not translating to results. We finished second to a not particularly good Belgium in the nations League and we’ve already managed to draw against 59th ranked Romania in World Cup qualification. Worried I made a big mistake. 21. Incidentally, on the subject of taking over Spain, I'd like to take you back to my FM18 Ultimate challenge. Every thing was going swimmingly. It was 2041. I had won everything except the Euros and Asian Cup. Completion was in my sights. To be clear, I'd already won both the World Cup and Confederations Cup with Brazil. Didn't need them. 42-44 Holland Euro Q/F Sacked 46-47 China Asian Cup S/F Sacked 50-58 Spain Won 3 Nations Leagues. the Confederations Cup and the World Cup (and was runner up in all 3). But lost 2 Euros Finals. Pretty sure the second one was on penalties. 58- 59 Australia Asian Cup R/U This is the closest I've ever come to FM breaking me. I was seriously really depressed, so I have a lot of sympathy for people who need to step away from the game / challenge, and would never try to talk someone out of stepping away. That's how my challenge ended that year.

The only thing remaining was a Champions League final against Bayern. We’d already got past our main competition, Manchester City, in the semi-final. Therein lies the problem. English sides are dominant in Europe, so if we don’t win this final I’ll have a choice between staying for another season just to win the CL, or hoping I can do it at some point in one of the other big 4 Euro leagues. Let’s hope that decision is academic. Champions League Final Top Goalscorer – Diego Esedin – 59 Not quite Endrick’s 75 goals at Flamengo, but pretty sure he played a lot less matches. (Yes, 47 starts as opposed to 61). It’s unusual for me to have strikers score this many, even though I only play 1 striker. Unfortunately he’s Argentinian, so he may come back to haunt me soon. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) – Diego Esedin - 7.63 Man of The Match – Diego Esedin - 14 MVP – Diego Esedin He’s not actually close to being my best player, but obviously, he was helpful, and did score a hat trick in the Champions league final - which was nice.
