  1. Adam picked up his first international cap shortly after his 17th birthday. Let's see how he did. Oh!
  2. Which international goals can be counted? Friendlies? U21 etc?
  3. I thought I was old, but I didn't know it was ever called the Pele challenge. As I've alluded to, I'm not doing this organically, so it will be a lot less impressive than yours or Libbyshuss's and anyone else who's done it as part of challenges. My guy's something like the 6th best penalty taker, although he only misses penalties in important cup matches #GoodNewsBadNews
  4. I'd love for people to retrospectively join. Frankly if he hasn't been basing his whole team around him since the age of 15 it will be a considerably greater achievement than mine. I'm a bit worried about Adam. His personality has changed from F pro to F Sporting, which probably means his professionalism has dropped below 15. he is being mentored by a M Citizen, but there were a lot of others in his mentoring group, so hopefully now I've moved whoever it was messing up his professionalism. There was a perfectionist, so maybe he only had 14 professionalism. Anyway, the perfectionist has his own group now. No other problems with Adam though. current ability going up. I've sold the world class striker and Adam has 8 goals in 5.
  5. Adam Maitland - Season 1 - 16 years old So, here’s the problem with the challenge that I didn’t anticipate. It’s going to be too easy. 48 goals in 39 starts and 2 sub appearances. A goal every 61 minutes. At the moment, Maitland is 16, and still not very good. I only started him in the league matches, usually not the cups or Champions League. (We did win all 3 domestic trophies, but we went out in the group stage of the Champions League). The team is not very good. I’m slowly rebuilding it with young players because we don’t have much money due to building a new stadium. With all that, Maitland still scored 48 goals, and would probably have hit the half century if this hasn’t happened with 3 matches to go. This is just going to come down to him not getting injured or leaving. As I start playing Maitland in more cup and CL matches, and the team improves, his appearances and presumably goals will go up. At the moment, I plan to start Maitland in all the cup matches next season, but not Champions League. His ‘backup’ Moussa Ndayishimiye, a top level striker admittedly, scored 37 goals in his 16 starts, plus of course the 32 times my Assistant brought him on as a sub. However, his goals to minutes ratio was almost identical (60 minutes). An interesting side challenge will be to see how close Maitland gets to 100 goals in a season. Maitland obviously picked up some awards this season, including top spot in the NxGn and European Golden Boy. He also collected 4 U21 caps and 4 goals. 6. Adam Maitland - Season 0 - 15 years old I am indeed having a go at this challenge. it's something I've always wanted to try, but it's hard to make the pieces fall into place. I've temporarily abandoned my Ultimate challenge to have a go at it. Not sure how long my interest will keep up. This is my candidate at the end of the season after he came through the intake. The second screenshot was taken about a month after the first, just to show some extra info, such as his star rating and description. Background. I'd just led Celtic to a domestic treble, and the semifinals of the Champions League. Honestly, our finances and facilities aren't great, so hopefully i can develop them before Adam hits his peak. Obviously this challenge is kind of tricky to do, and my entire save from his emergence has been based around getting 1,000 goals from Adam. I started him in most matches from the start, even though at this point he's not really very good, and I was using him in place of a genuine world class striker. His extra training is penalties, and I have him as my main taker. I'm basically gaming the challenge is almost every possible way .Also using downloaded tactics, albeit with a slight added variation. I'll admit, it sort of feels like gaming the situation. The goals aren't coming organically, but the goals are the objective. It will take a few years for him to reach his peak. In 4 or 5 season's time, I really need him to be consistently scoring in excess of 50 goals a season. Obviously, he probably won't score that many for the next few years, although I'm halfway through his first full season, and he's not that far off. There's also a lot of things which could destroy the challenge; injuries and the player forcing an exit. And of course, in the end, retirement. I'm not sure this will be fun for the 20 odd seasons it might take. But I'll make a start, and hopefully beat my own personal record, which is really low, (about 300 goals, I think). I might at some point want to take the Scotland job, but no point applying even if it comes up, until Adam is at his peak, and frankly I'd like to do it just with club goals anyway. 7. Resurrecting this old challenge to see if it gathers any traction. In essence this challenge is to have a player score 1,000 goals for you. It's called the Danny Roberts challenge after a player that Dafuge did it with, maybe as much as 15 or even 20 years ago. there may be one other person who achieved it years ago. I'm not sure. The rule for the challenge are -Competitive club matches only -Player must score all his goals for you as his manager -International goals can be included, including friendlies, even if you're not the national manager. -Can be done in tandem with any other challenge, or just as a challenge in its own right. Frankly though, I imagine it's more fun as part of another challenge.
  8. Dortmund did eventually get around to offering me the job, but having started the season with Celtic, I think I'm more interested in pursuing the 1,000 goal thing, and maybe come back to this point later to continue this challenge. I will accept the job though just to see what I make of the Dortmund squad.
  9. Vikeologist's 2050 Italy World Cup Report I left France after 6 years without winning any silverware with them, and feeling as though I never would, so of course they immediately won the Nations League. I had a decision to make between Argentina and Italy. I chose the latter because I need both the World Cup and the Euros. We did win every WC qualifying match, but only achieved a draw and defeat against England in the nations league. That was a couple of years ago though. I wouldn’t say I’m confident, but winning this is a possibility, I suppose. I’ve just seen that I’m expected to make the semifinals, so this could be a short stay at Italy. Group Stage Italy 3-0 Tunisia Italy 2-0 U.A.E. Safely topped the group without picking up any new injuries. Bosnia & Herzegovina next, which we’ll obviously be expected to win. Second Round Third Round Quarter Final Semi Final Final / 3rd Place Playoff After The Tournament
  10. Vikeologist's 2048/49 Celtic (and Italy) Report So much to talk about. I left Leverkusen, deciding that they were never going to win the Bundesliga. (They led the Bundesliga all season without me, until throwing it away by losing their last 2 matches of the season). The Celtic manager took the Leverkusen job, so I took the Celtic job. I assumed it would be easy to win what I needed to, and it was pretty easy. I won the league and both domestic cups. We also reached the Champions league semifinal, losing in extra time, which is better than I ever did with Leverkusen. I set new personal records for goals scored and goal difference for a 38 match season; 159 and 132 respectively. (If I’d played my strongest striker to the end I might have beaten _JHTB_’s record of 107, if I’d won all 3 of the matches I drew near the end. Bear in mind though that would involve dropping 6 or less points the entire season. (I think I equalled it once). Dortmund won the Bundesliga, meaning that the Bayern manager’s job was shaky. Unfortunately they reached the Champions League final, and it looks as though they’re not making a change. Top Goalscorer – Moussa Ndayishimiye – 55 This seems impressive, but Moussa was injured for 2 months at the start of the season, thus missing a lot of easy matches, and didn’t start for the final matches of the season because I was starting a 15 year-old striker. If he’d played the whole season he could probably have challenged my personal record of 75. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Moussa Ndayishimiye – 7.92 Actually I also had a veteran striker who equalled this mark despite only starting 7 of the 16 matches he played in. Man of The Match – 9. Moussa Ndayishimiye – 11 MVP – Moussa Ndayishimiye With a promising young striker, I am a bit tempted to steer away from the challenge and see if I can achieve the 1,000 goal challenge with him at hibs. This is basically where a player scores 1,00 goals for you, and can include international goals, if you’re the international manager. The youngster in question is Adam Maitland 50a. I started him in league matches as soon as he came through, and he did score 7 in those 8 starts, (with 4 sub appearances in the cup and Champions league). 2 were penalties. He’s obviously not that good yet, but we played 67 matches this season. If he could score say 30 goals a season while developing over the next couple of years, then maybe he could be the one. I know the maths, but as I’ve said above, in this system a top level striker can score 70 odd goals a season if they avoid injury. The question is, do I want to abandon the challenge and spend more than 20 years at Celtic churning out trophies. There would have to be other objectives, such as prioritising Scottish players and winning the Champions League. Anyway, it’s the World cup with Italy next, and there are no available top jobs in Germany or Portugal, the two other leagues I have loaded, so I’ll just see how I feel at the end of the summer. Maybe I won’t put too much effort into Celtic until the end of June when players are released. I don’t have any transfer funds anyway. 11. Vikeologist's 2048/49 Bayer Leverkusen Report We came close to winning the league. At one point we were 7 points behind leaders Dortmund in a 3-horse race, but with 3 matches to go we faced new leaders Bayern who were only 2 points ahead of us. Beat them and our win our last 2 matches, we’d be champions. We were much the better side, but bad luck and inability to take chances led to a 2-1 defeat. Eventually we finished 3rd because I played young players in the remaining 2 matches. The question is do I stick around for another season with Leverkusen? There’s no guarantee we’ll be better or able to compete again next season. It’s just my pride keeping me here at this point. This is my biggest failure in FM for years. Top Goalscorer – Maximiliano Páez – 30 This really explain our struggles this season. He usually scores between 40 and 50 goals a season, and he didn’t miss a lot of matches through injury. Just stopped scoring near the end. He only scored in 4 out of his last 15 matches, and some of those were penalties. Not just poor from. At the age of 30 he really has declined a bit, but I don’t plan to make a panic change, (if I stay). Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Bart Hanssen – 7.25 Another massive step backwards from my players’ usual best score. Hanssen is my left winger. Man of The Match – Bart Hanssen – 8 MVP – Bart Hanssen Going through these stats, and their decline since last season, has really made me want to quit Leverkusen. The last 2 seasons have been out lowest points totals (full seasons) of my reign. We’re going backwards. 12. Vikeologist's 2048 Euros France Report France are ranked 3RD in the world. We should be one of the favourites, but I don’t think we have enough good players. Certainly our lack of players in the top 50 footballers in the world (2 in the last one, I think) and NxGn 50 (1) is disheartening. A tough group as well, although I actually think it’s better to have a tough group with possibly 3 teams going through. Let’s just hope that we don’t go out at the semifinal stage because of a sending off (which has happened 3 times at international tournaments so far). 13. Vikeologist's 2047/48 Bayer Leverkusen (and France) Report We kept up with Bayern until Christmas, but dropped out of contention after the break. Even more annoyingly, we only reached the German Cup semifinal. Bayern weren’t unbeatable. We just weren’t good enough. Will we be better next season? Our new stadium now has even more seats. We have a bit more money. Probably not enough to bring in the quality of players necessary to win the league, but you never know. Trying to bring in a few promising youngsters rather than blow my entire budget on one aging superstar as I normally do. I think my first team is pretty good. I just need better cover in a couple of positions. Next up is the euros with France. Our results have been good, but I don’t think I have as many good players as other major nations, so if we don’t win I will probably look for something better. Top Goalscorer – Maximiliano Páez – 43 He missed the start of the season, and I gave a young striker some chances later on. 77 minutes played per goal. However, I am bringing in an equally good striker over the summer, so I may rotate a bit to keep the new guy fit. 14. @SkiIIs I am finding it equally hard to dethrone Bayern. I did not expect to still be at Leverkusen after three and a half seasons, and it's gong to be at least four and a half. Annoyingly, Dortmund did dethrone them my first full season, and we were close to doing it ourselves, but it was too soon, and that's the only time Bayern have faltered. I knocked Dortmund out of the cup this season, and with their bad league position, i thought they might sack their manager. I wasn't going to apply for it. I'm determined to win with Leverkusen now, and Dortmund haven't sacked their manager. But i could be here a while.
  15. Vikeologist's 2046/47 Bayer Leverkusen (and France) Report About a quarter of the way into the season Bayern had already opened up a 10 point lead, and we had crashed out of the cup in an early round. This caused me to take a break from the save. Eventually I skulked back and we inflicted Bayern’s only league defeat (we thrashed them) and basically maintained the gap finishing 2nd, but 14 points adrift. We reached the Champions league Q/F and finally have some transfer funds, but I’m probably going to spend the whole £45 million on a left winger we had on loan for the second half of the season. We also have a free transfer left back coming in on a team high salary. It probably won’t be enough to see us overtake Bayern. I’ve spent more than 2 seasons here with at least one more to come. If a better job came up over the summer, I’m not sure what I’d do. If it was the Bayern job of course I know exactly what I’d do, but Julian Nagelsmann is never leaving. Top Goalscorer – Maximiliano Páez – 53 We set a league record for number of team goals with 100 in the 34 matches. Man of The Match – Maximiliano Páez - 12 MVP – César Tedeschi Difficult choice between the two. Nothing much happening with the French national team. Not many wonderkids coming through. 16. Sure. I might be in the same boat, although I'm not sure how I'll feel about being close to completion and having my tactics suddenly stop working with a new version. The announcement has actually spurred me into resuming the challenge, although it hasn't taken me long to remember why the situation with both club and country made me want to take a break.

I hoped that Fleetwood who also had a lot of points during the regular season, would fail, but they made it to the final on penalties. Final Bradford 3-3p Fleetwood 3-1 up I took off some of my best players who were on yellow cards and likely to be sent off. It wasn’t an unfounded fear. Richie Smallwood, my defensive midfielder, picked up 27 yellows and a red this season. Last season he picked up 16 yellows and 5 reds. He spends more time suspended than playing matches in the second half of seasons. They pulled a goal back, and then our striker who I had to keep on in case of penalties was sent off. 91 minutes – They equalise, it’s ruled out. 94 minutes- They’re awarded a penalty. We save it. 96 minutes – Their relentless pressure pays off and they equalise. We’re down to 10 men. Nonetheless, nothing happens on extra time, and it goes to penalties. Which we lose. Obviously, a disappointing season in the end. I probably would have succeeded if I’d had a larger squad. I had a couple of spaces and wage room, and still had some deadwood in the squad, but I was being conservative. I also want to give chances to and develop younger players. It does mean that we made some money. We should be capable of promotion next season. I only had 4 loan players, and none of them were really fixed first teamers. Squad Screenshots Top Goalscorer – Jamie Walker – 21 An attacking midfielder. I play with one striker and none of them really inspire confidence in me. I used 3 this season. Joe Hugill (loanee)– 18 goals. Minutes on pitch per goal – 155 Charlie Wyke (loanee) – 6 goals. Moppg – 190 I brought him in at the end of the season to replace Hugill and take us over the line. Given his stats and the fact that he was the guy sent off in the playoff final, that didn’t work. Jaden Williams – 13 goals. Moppg – 108 A 19 year old I bought at the start of the season. He did ok, but is rated much lower than the 2 loanees, and I didn’t really have faith in him. However, he has improved, and it’s possible I’ll run with him next season. I don’t think he has anywhere near the quality or personality to be my Danny Roberts though. That will have to wait. Given this is a 1,000 goal challenge, you might at this point think I’m going to struggle to get 100 goals out of a striker in his career, but I’m confident the right guy will be able to put up big numbers in the Premier League. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Jamie Walker – 7.20 31 next month but should have a couple more productive seasons in him. Man of The Match – Jamie Walker – 12 MVP – Jamie Walker Current / All time Danny Roberts Jamie Walker – 35 goals, 30 years old Domestic Season Division Position MVP Notes 22/23 League 2 6th Harry Lewis Luckily promoted via playoffs (with rubbish squad). 23/24 league 1 3rd Jamie Walker Lost in playoff final on penalties. 18. 23/24 Season Report With 4 matches to go we were in 3rd place, out of the automatic promotion places on (considerable) goal difference, but it was in our hands because the top 2 had to play each other. We were at least guaranteed a playoff spot. Barrow 1-0 Up to 2nd place. Wigan 3-1, still in 2nd, but still only 2 points between 1st and 4th. In the penultimate matches, we play Stoke in 3rd place, and the teams in 1st and 4th play each other. So the automatic promotion places could be decided right there. Stoke 0-1 That was a disaster, and with the top team winning as well, it means we need a miracle in the last match to be promoted automatically. Stoke need to not win at home against the 3rd from bottom side, (and obviously we would need to win as well). Lincoln 2-1 Managed to turn the match around with the winning goal in the dying minutes, but it was all for nothing as Stoke won. I mean, really unlucky not to get promoted with 91 points. So, playoffs, which I’ll do tomorrow. So this is just part 1 of the season report. Oh, we won the Pizza Cup. Hoo bloody ray!
  19. Slightly modified downloaded tactic from FM22 Beta times. 22BETAME21.7PILGRIMAGEKnapLordIWB41230P259(41221P98ALLCUPS.fmf Is using downloaded tactics (even modified ones)against house rules? Understand if people don't want to follow based on that, but it's not the tactical side of the game that I'm interested in, as much as player development.
  20. Oh no, I didn't think it was pooping. It's just that I've settled on a tactic this year that seems to be producing results that make this viable for the first and only time. But I don't expect to succeed, and really this is mostly just a straightforward make my club the best in the world thing.
  21. It probably is impossible, but I just want to see how close i can get. However, for the first 3 seasons it's just about getting promoted. It seems my tactics work better at the top level than lower leagues, and certainly I've had players scoring more at that level. I reckon that once we're in the Champions League and the dominant club I can get 60-70 goals a season from my striker at their peak. We'll also need to be one of the top clubs in the world to stop them wanting to leave. But it would mean finding someone who I can start by about 18 at the latest, and then I need them to be able to take penalties, have the stamina to play every match and not be injury prone. And I need a lot of luck. In reality I won't be doing the DR bit for a few seasons.
  22. 22/23 Season Report My squad really didn’t fit my preferred tactics. In particular I basically had no wingers. I brought in a couple on loan, but this meant that I had 8 loan players, only 5 of whom I could use in any league match. It looked for a while that we stood a decent chance of automatic promotion but injuries caused a bad run of results. In the end we had to settle for the playoffs. We won all 3 matches and were promoted. Honestly, all the matches were close and we were lucky, but it doesn’t matter. With half the first team leaving at the end of their loan spells plus most of the backups, I’ll have to completely rebuild the team for L1, but at least I’ll be able to bring in some players I want. As for the 1,000 goal challenge, we had a promising youngster come through the youth intake, and he did score a fantastic goal in his first match, but he’s really not good enough yet. However, all our strikers are leaving, so I might give him a chance next season to learn on the job. I doubt he’s the guy for the challenge though. Too soon. Top Goalscorer – Dara Costelloe – 24 One of my loan players. Wasn’t anything special. I’m not particularly interested in trying to get him back. Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) Scott Banks – 7.06 Another loanee who played on the left wing and was the only player in the entire squad to average more than 7. We really weren’t very good. Not sure how we were promoted. Man of The Match – Harry Lewis – 6 Not a loanee. Not as good as in real life, (in fact he made some absolute howlers) but in the playoff final he was amazing. MVP – Harry Lewis Just for that final match really. Current / All time Danny Roberts Dara Costelloe – 24 goals, 20 years old (and leaving at end of loan). Domestic Season Division Position MVP Notes 22/23 League 2 6th Harry Lewis Luckily promoted via playoffs (with rubbish squad).
  23. As I usually do challenges (from the CSE forum), I’ve never actually done a full save with my favourite team, Bradford City. I’m not sure I’ve ever even taken them to the Premier League or even completed 1 full season. So that’s what I’m going to try to do now, plus the Champions League and all the rest. To be honest, I’m pretty confident I’ll be able to do this fairly easily, so I’m going to combine it with a challenge I’ve always wanted to do, which is to have a player score 1,000 goals. This is generally called the ‘Danny Roberts Challenge’ named after a player that Dafuge did it with, maybe as much as 15 or even 20 years ago. This will make the challenge more difficult, as I will have to find (or have fall in my lap through youth intake) a suitable young striker. I have never even come close to having a player score 1,000 goals for me. I think my personal record might be about 400. However, I’ve never specifically based an entire save around doing it. The ‘rule’ for the challenge is that the player must score all his goals for me in competitive matches. This might include international goals if I’m the international manager, but I’ve probably made international management (at least of England) more difficult by having my manager be Icelandic. I’m not necessarily going to prioritise finding the young striker immediately, as the priority will be to get to the Premier League first, and then find a good enough young striker. I’m also starting off with no qualifications or badges to make it more difficult. I’m not sure if my manager being a woman will also add difficulty. AFAIK it doesn’t.
  24. What leagues do you have loaded? In previous versions it's more difficult to get interviews when you also have an international job.
  25. Vikeologist's 2046 France World Cup Report So World Cup attempt number 5. We only topped our qualifying group on goal difference, although it wasn’t that worrying. Romania were somewhat lucky to get 2 draws against us, and we won all the other matches. We’ve also lost in the final of the last 2 Nations Leagues finals on penalties, which is a bit more worrying. I have 2 strikers in my squad who are just there in the event of penalties, but only 2 of my still poor crop of top 7 penalty takers are starters. The squad is quite inexperienced as I’ve had to bring in younger players to replace those who’ve gone over the hill. We have very few out and out stars. We also have nobody in the latest NxGn, no one labelled a wonderkid and only 10 players labelled promising. Easy group, including one of my old teams, Morocco. Oh, and we have to reach the Q/F to save my job, which given that we’re ranked 3 in the world seems generous of the France FA. We might not be the best team in the world, but the humility of the FA is quite helpful. Group Stage Second Round Third Round Quarter Final Semi Final Final / 3rd Place Playoff After The Tournament
