Most DoFs will have a bit of their own network, so them coming up with suggestions outside of your scouting network isn't that strange. They definitely should come with at least some scouting knowledge though.

I feel like most of their signings come strictly from their own network. They never pull from the pool of scouted players. At least that have been my experience. They probably do use their attributes but if their network is full of crap players then i guess that is what you get.

Something that I find very challenging is to make "invisible" (through the color palette) the player attributes. Basically you need to use stats, staff reports, comparison between players and the octagonal diagram of ability. After 15 years of FM I finally had some difficulties in achieving board objectives

Yes, I use the star attribute skin. I'm a little OCD, so seeing missing info puts me off. I know there was an invincible attributes skin last year, but It just had too much information on the screen for my liking. This is another feature I wish SI provided.

Delegating transfer responsibilities (either player or staff) is totally pointless imo, even though I'd love to be able to do it for the youth and B-teams especially, and give the DOF and relevant managers more responsibility and control over what they would do irl. In FM23, they couldn't even get it accidentally right. Doesn't matter how high their Judging Current Ability/Potential Ability/Staff Ability is.

According to some (Myself included), it is the only way to get a challenge from the game. However, I negate the braindead player transfers using the transfer target feature. I wish we had something similar for staff.

I do think the "lack of depth" issue connects to the squad planner somehow.

I played 4-4-2 with no complaints, then set it up as 4-4-2 DM on the tactics screen during the winter break, with just one of my CMs being natural at DM and on the squad depth screen, and aftee a few weeks lacking defensive midfielders was a huge issue for the squad.

Might try to recreate that situation, then change tactics away from DMs again and see if the problem vanishes itself.

Possibly, I never had the squad depth problem but I also use the squad planner. However, the squad planner is supposed to be a private thing, so maybe that is the bug.

I mean, you only have to look at this very thread's title as evidence that people on here are completely insane at times :D

The game is broken by definition when you have headline features that aren't working because of previous broken code. Subs and squad rotation isn't a new issue, hence the headline feature...

EA, despite releasing a broken Madden game for over 20 years and allegedly using new code, fans still play.

I’m overachieving because the AI is not working as it should be. Subs not being used correctly for example! Seriously man, no need to back SI to the hilt, people can experience bugs you know!

The game is fine. Don't use subs yourself until the 85th-90th minute or not at all to match the AI...

There are tons of ways to not play the game like it was meant to be played to get a fun challenge.

I swear some of you guys sound like y'all are in a cult lol.

The AI can only use preset tactics, therefore it's more of an even playing field. If I create a completely new tactic, there's always the risk the AI can't keep up with it. Although I don't agree with difficulty levels, one thing SI could introduce as an option to tick at the start is whether to allow the user to be able to create their own tactic or have to stick to one of the presets.

That's false. They use default formations.  They use different player role and some team instructions based on their preferences.

Apart from the exceeded amount of goals problem, IMO this has been indeed the best match engine that we've played. Altough it's unplayabe for now.

Which is kinda funny, it's unplayable but it's one fix away for beeing the best ME of all time

I mean, it isn’t like there is something that was great to compare it to. The animation alone makes it the best as the prior years made the players look robotic.

Honestly SI should just remove entirely the 'squad depth' complaints. They can't get it to work well. Most importantly, if they keep it, they really need to add an option to tell the players that the club is not in a financial position to improve the squad depth. If you can have that option for a player requesting a new contract it makes no sense to not have it here. Fact is, 99% of the time players making demands like this is outrageously unprofessional, like we're a non-league side do you think we have tons of cash to spare? Maybe if you all take a paycut I can bring in another player.

To play devils advocate, it doesn’t matter if the club has the money or not to meet my demands. I can’t imagine myself staying at a job and being told that I not getting a raise because they don’t have the money. I’m going to take my talents elsewhere lol.

Yes I know that, but that is a flag to indicate he is on the shortlist. It has no affect on the player or his club.

Or at least it shouldn't - because as I said shortlists should be private. If they are not then that is really bad game design, because how are you supposed to organise your transfer targets? Does SI expect us to use pen and paper?

This year, they made interest clear. Rumored interest doesn’t make it a fact that you are actively looking to sign him. You only become listed as interest if publicly declare interest or it’s leaked that you are interested in the player.

  11. 1 hour ago, Kickballz said:

Does anyone know for sure what interest this generates? In my experience it seems to be a player only thing. - I have never seen a player being on a shortlist affect anything. It really shouldn't do so anyway because the shortlist should be private- if it does have any affect I would consider that a bug.

I believe it’s rumored interest. I don’t think it actually improves the player’s actual interest in signing but I could be wrong. Maybe it’s indirectly. If it’s rumored interest, you may become on his radar. Idk.

The opposite of "scripted" is not "easy". Two different terms.

I know Gegenpress is one of the reasons that makes game easy against AI, but I have also done the opposite of that. I've been playing 5-4-1 since FM 23, with putting my defense back and not counter-pressing after losing the ball. But there is nothing new with it. You can still dominate because the AI has bad squad building and bad player preferences, or bad tactic preferences. The problem is not only about Gegenpress being too OP, its about the AI being bad at responding to it.

Also, a game does not have to be scripted to be competitive. I remember people saying that but its definetly not the same I'm talking about. Those people were like "Oh i won my first 20 matches in the league and i start losing because game wants my enemy to win the league, prevents me from succeeding" bla bla bla. This is what those who believe the game is scripted say.

My point, and the point of most people here are actually different. We want smarter AI, not scripted game.

As I mentioned in another thread, Gegenpress has become synonymous with a set of instructions that encourage your team to be active and aggressive on the field. Although it's not just about pressing the opposing team, as the players do not really press correctly at times, it's a combination of instructions that are often included in the default tactic. The problem with these instructions is that they don't always come with the appropriate level of risk. "Gegenpress" often provides a much greater reward without requiring much risk-taking which is a flaw in the game.

Gotcha. I saw that someone said by shortlisting them u can keep up with their form game to game, but u can see that anyway long as the player is scouted right? Thought I was missing something by not shortlisting players.

to answer the op then; I barely if ever use them. Only during a window at the exact moment and time that im ready to make an offer/signing, I put the 3-4 players I want on the shortlist to do a thorough comparison of all of them and rank them based on priority 1 being the guy I most want and will make an offer to now, 2 being the next guy I’ll offer if 1 doesnt come through. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yes, you're able to see form from games, it generates interest in players (not sure how much), and it keeps scouting reports updated (if you have that option selected), meaning your scout will go back and scout them again without you assigning scouts it if the reports get old.

It also depends on how people want to play the game. If you want to use a reactive system then I think you really should react to what the AI are doing.

I do think other stuff work. And also true that aggressive instructions can help you get results

Yes, the rewards far outweigh the risks, especially when you are in charge of lesser teams.

Yes I brought it up because I said you've been complaining about the game for years, which you refuted.  If you say you're not complaining about the game then that's great, I'm really happy you're enjoying it.  That's what it's there for.  It does look a bit like it's complaining about the same thing as this thread to me though.

So, if you're not saying something good about the game, you're considered a complainer. That's okay, but why are you still here complaining about people who complain? Why aren't you just enjoying the game instead?

OK a very, very quick look at your post history bring me to this (please forgive me if it's out of context):

To me shows that you've had this perception of the game being too easy for quite some time.  Now that's fair enough, but do you really think that if it's been so easy for you for years it's going to change any time soon.  Surely at this point complaining on this forum about gegenpress making the game too easy must feel like shouting into the void.  Wouldn't it be a more enjoyable use of your time to find a way of playing FM that you find enjoyable or play one of those other strategy games with its better game design.

You bring up a post from 3 years ago that is not even a complaint...

And since you are digging up old posts, I am sure you can find tons of posts mentioning that I actively handicap myself. I'm at the point where I ask ChatGPT to suggest tactics based on my team's strengths and weaknesses.

Mars, you've been complaining about this game for years.  Maybe you need to accept it's never to meet your standards.

Please indicate where I have made any complaints.

I play the game for what it is, but that doesn't mean it doesn't need improvements, as this version was hyped as the most complete and a love letter to fans.

AI is still so bad at and weak at transfers. You dominate easily in the leagues like Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey.
I check the transfers of AI, and they are buying few players, and those who buy plenty, most of them are useless players. I dont want to have to play in England or Germany to have a competitive and fun career anymore.

In middle level leagues, you're still dominating the league because the AI is still so bad at transfers. In Turkey for example, clubs except Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, they are so bad at transfers. I really want to enjoy playing in small leagues but this prevents me from doing so.

I've been testing with the recent update and previous version.

I noticed the lack of transfer activity as well. There are definitely still some dumb transfers but I also think it is a combination of a lack of subs and rotations (new signing not playing) and a database issue (database not optimized to take full advantage of transfer activity)

The realism mod should help some.
