[FM24] Boston United FC - Non League to Champions League

With the large amount of changes to the team and removing most of the better players, we were favourites for the drop and probably is a fair assessment of the youth academy/Lincolnshire player team. We have to hope we can stay up this year and keep using the facilities to improve our players. I guess if we went down, I should be safe from the sack and could properly rebuild and come back stronger. We shall see how the year goes!

Well, we are not bottom! We have lost the most games out of all the team, 6 from 9 League games but we have won the other 3 to sit outside the bottom 3! Conceded the most goals but we have a bright spark in Nicholas Adamu LC24 who has 6 goals to start the season strong. Struggling to get any formation to work at this point so it keeps changing every few games until we can try and get something that will maximise the points against the lower league teams. Let's keep picking up points and strive to stay outside the bottom 3!

A much better period, especially in December when we picked up 4 wins, all against teams that are close to us in the table. We have started to put a little distance between us and the bottom 3 by 7 points, but that can soon be eroded down with a run of playing the top sides. Nicholas Adamu LC24 is the star of the show as he has 14 goals to his name, which is almost half of the teams 31 goals this season. We will struggle to bring many players in to help in the transfer window as there are only 3 players who can improve the first team currently.

End of Season 6 Review - Championship - 16th Position

We survived!! I thought for a while we would really struggle to stay up, but Sheffield Wednesday got a 12 point deduction for going into administration and Cardiff and Millwall just struggled all season long. The team started to come together and we were able to play the youth players pretty consistently in the final 5 matches, with the last 2 securing 2 victories! We have plenty to work on for next year and hopefully we can look to move into the top half. There are not too many players for us to go after so most of the squad will be the same with a few players we may need to bring up from the youth teams.

Season 7 - Championship 3rd Season

We managed to survive last season with our youth only + Lincolnshire born/youth system we implemented at the start of season 6. After 5 season of winning at will, the challenge became real with struggling with form and getting results. I have a feeling, with the lack of players we can buy, that this season will probably be a struggle once more! We managed one loan signing of Yannick Nganza 26c, who had made a £12,500,000 move to Leeds and Ayden Hopewell B24d moved back the other way in a £5,750,000 deal from Leeds to us. We were due 50% of his next sell on, so we got half of that money back for a total spend of around £2,875,000. He does not seem to have developed as much as Leeds wanted when they parted with £10,250,000 only a few years ago. We are predicted to finish bottom once more so once again, we are going to have to work hard to get results and avoid the drop. Hopefully we start to see some real development of the players with the gametime this year which will help us over the next few years to be able to challenge for Premier League Football maybe for our 10th season.

We will also spend our second season in Lincoln at the LNER stadium as the board granted 2 more upgrades to The Jakemans Community Stadium, due to be completed by end of January 2030 and raise our capacity to 11,481. I think the stadium can go to 15,000ish before we need a new stadium so this might be needed in the next few seasons. Planned Youth and Training facilities upgrades are also happening to keep us moving forward!

October to December 2029 Update

This has been a real slog, ever win is a fight an the struggle to score goals is real. I genuinely feel that we could go down this season, especially seems our best two defenders are out of contract at the end of the season and wont sign a new deal. Just 2 points ahead of the bottom 3 and even with Sheffield United gaining a 12 point deduction for going into administration, we are going to need to go on a good run at some point.

At least it looks like we finally have some Youth Academy players who are defenders in this intake as we are short across all 3 teams.

January to March 2030

Looking back, I feel like we made it hard for teams to come to The Jakemans Community Stadium since we moved back in at the end of January as it now sits at 11,481 capacity, and I'm pleased to say we managed to fill that in the last 4 home games. The games against Lincoln City and Soke at the end of March were key battles, losing to Lincoln was not an option when we sat in 21st place. That huge win pushed us above Swansea and West Brom. We had a chance at the end of March to beat Stoke to really put some space between us and the bottom 3 but they would gain the win to keep the pressure on, but we had a 5 point gap.

7 games to go, 5 points from safety but we face the teams in our last games.

  • Sheffield United (Home) - 12th
  • Bristol City (Home) - 14th
  • Preston (Away) - 10th
  • Watford (Away) - 18th
  • West Brom (Home) - 20th
  • Nottingham Forest (Away) - 1st
  • Reading (Home) - 5th

Lets just say we need to be safe and not needing a result on the last 2 games of the season as both look to be games we will not be able to get anything from. I can see us getting a maximum of 4-5 points here, lets hope that is enough!!

Under 18 Premier Development League Success - Back to Back Winners

The first team struggled may not last for many more seasons as the under 18 team has won the Under 18 Professional Development League for the second year running, defeating Millwall Under 18's in the final. 15 from 20 victories saw Boston United U18 take the North title before defeating Watford in the Semi-Final. What a performance from the youngsters who have performed above all expectations to win this again. With the youth teams starting to take shape, we will add a focus for them once we start the new season!

Season 7 - End of Season Summary

We survived, which was the only aim of the season! We never managed to leave the bottom half of the table, 1 week in 16th place and the rest of the time around 20th. But when the final game was done, we were not Lincoln, QPR or Stoke who are heading down to League One. Strangely our away form was better than the home form, but we did play half the season in Lincoln at the LNER stadium so not quite at home. It was probably the away form that actually kept us in the League compared to those around us. I am starting to feel like we have the players improving where this may be the last season of struggle in the Championship, but we will see if that is true or not.

CopyofSeason7(1).thumb.png.3cdc1464e13ddbb598f5162534296919.png

We would have been lost without the goals and assists from Nicholas Adamu LC24, who has proved a great signing from Lincoln City. The move to pay Matija Sarkic a high wage for a club of our size has paid off the keeper is in his prime and is helping develop the keepers of the future. We may now start to see players stepping up from the Under 21's and Under 18's as some of our players are at their potential and hopefully we are good enough next year to avoid that relegation battle.

Season 8 - 4th Season in the Championship

A 4th season in the Championship and we hope for a season not fighting at the bottom. I don't think we can challenge for the top spots, but I think we can finish comfortably in the middle of the pack and look to continue to develop our younger players over the next few seasons. We still have the smallest ground in the Championship so making money will always be a worry and the big boys are coming in to unsettle our top players, so it will be playing unhappy players most weeks. Most are on long term deals so I am not too worried at this point!

Loving the save. The graphics are really cool, and the pivot into a youth save is no mean feat so fairplay keeping Boston afloat in the championship in the last two seasons.

Thank you for checking in. It was going to be too easy if I didn't swerve the story and try something different with the youth focus! Last 2 seasons have been some of the toughest I have had in years which is refreshing!

I had to change the previous post, it wasn't the 3rd year in the Championship, it is the 4th! One of the best comeback games I have ever had came against Huddersfield, 0-2 down in the 80th minute to 3-2 winners by the end of the game, what a come-back!! We find ourselves performing above all expectations, October was perfect!

Not even close to anything manager wise, not major trophies or anything and that many years away! Maybe in another 8 years we may have a decent trophy!

I'll be honest, the transfer window was a PAIN IN THE ARSE!! Several of my top players were a constant target of bids and not even close to anything I would consider, think less than £5,000,000 plus add-ons. This did un-settle the players and many were unhappy but with them all tied to long term deals and money in the bank still, we do not need to sell. This really impacted our performances in February as we lost 5 from 6 and we drop down to 11th, the chances of any play-off football are slim to non now. But that is ok, we wanted to avoid a battle at the bottom and help improve out players, both we will achieve. The hard part now is keeping the gang together after this season.

As we can see, there are very few Lincolnshire born or Lincolnshire Academy players to pick from with the only two who would make an instant impact are way out of our range! We need either Grimsby or Scunthorpe to make some moves up the leagues and keep trying to buy Lincoln City players to see if they will improve their youth recruitment!

Didn't think I would have a wonderkid....

Well this was a shock, but that makes me even more angry of the low-ball £5,000,000 offers from the vultures. I have him signed until 2033 with a 3 year extension so unless the chairman is an idiot, he will be staying for the long term! Jamie-Luke Forsdick 28f, let's see how your career progresses now you are in the top 10 Wonderkid's list 2031!

We almost made the play-offs

I had counted the play-offs out and then we went on a run and just fell short at the final hurdle, 2 points from a play-off spot. It was not on the cards so we have performed above all expectations and if we can keep the team together, we have to be aiming for a play-off birth next season. What an last few games we had, scoring goals for fun and literally a goal or two away from play-off football. More pleasing was how some of the Boston born players performed and them becoming the back-bone of the team!

End of Season 8 - 2030-31 - Championship

A 7th place finish, above all expectations and our form at the end of the season was sensational. Our Boston born players played a huge part in the season as the top 4 players by minute were all from this group. We really are in a position now to keep pushing on but keeping players will get harder as the vultures keep putting crap bids in and unsettle them. Really glad they are mostly on long term deals with some extensions to activate if needed. I can't see many players in the transfer market and I don't want to waste money just buying when I need to keep as much as I can in the bank as we will need a new stadium at some point as we are almost at expansion capacity!

Season 9 - Championship Season 5

Our5th season in the championship and the strongest team we have had for the last few seasons, but we have some players wanting a move and fear the Chairman selling them for way under value! Let's hope we can keep the money coming in so we don't have to. I am personally aiming for a play-off spot this season but anything in the top half will be a winning season with this young squad!

2031/32 - August and September Update

I'll be honest, I was expecting to be nearer the top of the table and challenging but we would go 6 games without a win and were looking much closer to the bottom 3. Paul Tomlinson B28a would be out for several weeks and missing him seemed to have a big negative affect on the team and we just really struggled, even against the teams fighting at the bottom. We maintain our position in the Cup competitions but right now, it looks like another season of mid-table is what the Boston fans can hope for.

2031/32 - Championship Season Update

On the 1st November we lost to Luton Town 0-2 and were sitting in 19th place. We started our rise back up and find ourselves now in 13th place, 6 points behind the play-off spots (1 game more played) and 21 above the drop spots. I am confident we won't be heading for the drop but will we make it much higher than we are now? I genuinely don't know. We look great in some games, terrible in others, so I don't think the pre-season aim of play-offs will be achieved at this point. Back into the Transfer window and I can see players becoming unsettled again so we may see form in January dip once more.

2031/32 - Championship - Season Update Jan & Feb 2032

We have moved just below the play-off spots thanks to a good run of games, mainly against those at the bottom of the table. The win against Preston was pleasing as that helped to close the gap on them from 7 points to just 3. Sheffield United, Wolves and Sunderland are miles away from the rest and we are fighting with teams from 4th to 9th, separated by just 3 points for the remaining 3 play-off spots. It will be a great end to the season, every game at this stage really counts.

Youth Intake 2032

A Boston born player heads up the list this year which is great to see and hopefully he can move into the first team ranks over the next 2 or 3 seasons. In Ian Barton B32a, he has a chance as we always need centre backs. There are 3 or 4 plyers who currently look like the have the ability to play for the club in the long term but all will be signed and see how they develop in the next few years. The other Boston born player is keeper Oli Highers B32k.

Under 18 Professional Development League Victory

For the 3rd time in 4 seasons, Boston United Under 18's secured the title, getting revenge on Millwall who beat them in last years final. It has been 3 Boston bs Millwall finals for the last 3 years and this new rivalry, at least at this age group, looks set to continue into the future.

2031-32 Championship Season - March to May Update

Well, what a run that was to end the season with just a loss to Stoke followed by 5 good wins, both at home and on the road. What looked unlikely earlier on in the season has turned into what dreams are made of as Boston United will face Bristol City in the Play-off Semi-Final. Almost catching Sheffield United up, who collapsed only picking up 4 points in 9 games to go from top of the pile to 3rd. Huddersfield, Luton Town and Stoke all ended on 79 points for the final play-off spot.

The drama on the final day of the season was when Stoke City lost 0-7 to Coventry and would miss out when they only needed a point. Luton won but Huddersfield had the best goal difference and played relegated Barnsley, winning 2-0 and into the play-offs. Poor Stoke fans, they have had a nightmare.

2031/32 Championship Play-Off Semi-Final

A close and tight set of matches that came down to Paul Tomlinson B28a winning a penalty late on in the second leg, which Callum McMahon 27c put home to tie the game up and send Boston United to the final. It was not a classic game with both teams trying not to lose rather than aiming to win, but the away leg victory, goal by Joao Miguel 27b, for Boston United really aided coming back to The Jakemans Community Stadium and getting the result that was needed.

2031/32 Championship - Play Off Final Preview

Sheffield United were heading for automatic promotion before they stumbled in the final 9 games of the season after spending 19 weeks on the top spot. They would beat Huddersfield 4-0 (over two legs to reach the final. Boston United climbed up from 19th to 4th and ended the season in totally the opposite form to Sheffield United, but the head to head record is all in favour of Sheffield United. Boston have really struggled to get anything from them apart from the 2-2 draw this season. Playing in a 4-4-2, Boston United will revert back to that to try and hold their shape, frustrate them and grab a goal or two when they can.

I think they will come out of this with the win and we may just be too young and weak in key areas compared to the strength of their team. I am delighted to say 5 of the starters are Boston born and 8 have come through the Academy ranks. Is this just too much of a challenge or will the Sheffield United team that crumbled show up at Wembley?

Boston United have had the best of the game and probably should be at least 2-0 up with Sheffield United showing nothing so far. Just 1 shot on goal for them with no cutting edge attacks at the minute. If they come out fighting in the second half they will be dangerous and can always score but for Boston, they have to keep doing what they are doing and try and take a second goal before Sheffield United get back into the game.

2031/32 Championship Play-Off Final - Second Half

Goal - Sheffield United - 88:45 - Ben Romdhane

Heartbreak at the depth as a scrappy goal in the dying minutes puts Sheffield United up 2-1. Boston United have been the better team but they didn't put the ball in the back of the net when it counted. Is there any time left to salvage something?

Season 9 - Championship Play-Off Final - Defeat at the Death

It was not mean to be. We had enough about us to score at least 2 but we didn't and they did. I really thought at half time we was going up, but as they say, it's a game of two halves and we lost the second one. With very few players to buy and players wanting to leave, next year may be a fight just to get back to the play-offs once more.
