Playoff Semi Final

We finished 3rd and will play South Shields in the Semi Final. We have played each other twice this season with us beating them 2-1 at home and 3-0 away!

A very tight affair with few clear goal scoring opportunities. We managed to take one just after the hour mark with Morgan pouncing on a defensive mistake which has sent us into the playoff final were we will play...

Solihull shocked Exeter in the other game beating them 2-1 after finishing 17pts behind them in the league! In the league this season we lost 5-2 away from home after going down to 10 men early and at home we drew 1-1!

Well we beat them in the one game that mattered. Looking at the teams beforehand I was confident as they were missing 3 of their starting 4 defenders due to suspension and injuries and we really took advantage going in at the break at 3-0 up! We were comfortable in the 2nd half and run out 4-1 winners and up to the football league we go!

End Of Season

A fantastic season for us as our team has really steadily developed over the last 12 months or so! Culminating in the playoff final win against Solihull to send us into the football league!

League Table

3rd placed finish and playoff success!

FA Cup

This really helped us this year as it enabled training facility upgrades!

FA Trophy

A poor performance at Torquay as we were well below par.

Goalkeeper Watch

Gelacio (YP30A) scored 8 goals in 55 games this season and got 1 assist!

Player Review - Tyron Toms (YP30B)

Great improvement here from Toms who is turning into a very solid full back. Been capped 4 times at u21 level for Ireland. An impressive 7 assists this season as well!

Player Of The Season - Darren Ward-Cochrane (YP26F)

Limited in terms of top end potential but we are short up top and he was fantastic in this promotion season scoring an incredible 30 goals and getting 9 assists in 50 games this season!

Young Player Of The Season - Michalis Lavdarias (YP31C)

Our first 100 CA player was fantastic this season and can count himself a little unlucky to not have won the player of the season. 16 goals and 21 assists this season show you how important he has become. Managed to get an one year extension added to his latest contract which means unless the chairman steps in we should have him for another 3 seasons minimum!

We are definitely seeing some good development in the first team squad with consistent game time being a big factor. Nice to see our first 100 CA player with a few others not too far behind. A couple of players due to leave this su,,er due to lack of development recently in Leahy, Harney and Delaney.

Other News

As we are now in the football league we have turned professional! Be interesting to see how this affects our finances!

Something I didnt request but presume it is linked to the professional change!

Forgot to mention this in January we lost our biggest prospect from the previous intake with the Chairman accepting a pretty poor bid. Considering we had just got the money in for the Chelsea game I was surprised I couldnt protest it. We managed to get 30% profit of next sale so lets hope he hits his potential!

Well we managed to limit the big losses to 1 this year despite multiple offers for others first team players/ Toms (YP30B) was snapped up by Middlesbrough for 650k plus 40% of next sale. Lets hope he continues to develop like he has for us and gets a big move down the line. 3 other players have went out on loan for game times and Simpson, Harney and Benali all left for small fees as they were no longer required.

3 other players where released in Leahy, Delaney and McNamee as they simply were not developing.

Final Day Drama

League Table

We have a small chance of automatic promotion going into the last day.

We face top of the table Sutton hoping to ruin their title chances. Bristol Rovers who currently have the last automatic promotion spot travel to 19th place Salford. 4th place Wrexham travel to 21st place Notts County whilst outside chance Morecambe travel to 18th placed Stockport!

We did our part but unfortunately so did everyone else. At least we cost Sutton the title!

Final Table

Semi Final 1st Leg

The latest intake has really helped the depth in our squad with Sheehan stepping up in a big way in the first leg grabbing 2 goals!

Semi Final 2nd Leg

We are missing our best defender in Unsworth who is off to the u20 world cup with England currently and it showed. A ridiculous game were thankfully our attacking contingent turned up in an incredible 6-6 draw. Lavdarias with an impressive 4 assists and 10 rating!

We play Wrexham in the final a team we beat 3-1 at home and lost 2-0 away. All to play for!

In what was truly an awful match we managed to scrape through with a fairly undeserved 2-0 win to send us up! Nice to see Gelacio score in the playoff final as well!

End Of Season

We had some bad patches of form mainly in a 6 game winless streak between October and November but halfway through the season we really kicked into gear and forced out way into the playoffs and very nearly automatic promotion!

League Table

What a season for us as we go back to back promotions!

FA Cup

Not quite the money spinner this year as we were knocked out by an impressive Swansea side!

Carabao Cup

A tough draw against Millwall and I sent out the backup players for some game time and they did well although ultimately exited the competition!

EFL Trophy

No one really cares about this competition and we used it to really rotate the squad and give game time out. Bar the first game we didnt disgrace ourselves at all!

Goalkeeper Watch

Gelacio was in good form this season scoring 7 goals in 52 games and Okumura scored 1 goal in 3 games.

Player Review - Calvin Wade (YP32A)

A big development year from last years biggest prospect. He played 39 (3) times this year scoring 3 goals and getting 2 assists and having a big jump in CA as you will see in the development below.

Player Of The Season - Michalis Lavdarias (YP31C)

He will be the man we struggle to keep this summer. Thankfully he has another couple off years to run on his contract and we have an option to extend for a year but our chairman has been known to accept poor bids for players! 26 assists this season is simply incredible as well as 6 goals to boot! Capped 15 times for Greece u21 and wont be too far away from a full international call up!

Young Player Of The Season - Rob Unsworth (YP31D)

Already off playing at the u20 world cup for England it is another player we may struggle to keep. I have offered another contract to him which is is willing to accept so hopefully that will help us from a negotiating stance! 4 goals and 1 assist as well as a very impressive 7.06 rating for a centre back!

I like this view each year as it really helps me see the development of the whole squad including those in the youth teams and those out on loan. It also really helps me see those players who simply arent developing who I can look to release in pre-season. This year the likes of Levi, Fredericks, Adarkwa, Boadu and Ural all havent increased at all despite being at the club for more than 2 seasons now!

Transfer Clause

Well hello there! He was always going to be a big prospect and he has developed really well over the past couple of years and he's off to the Premier League now although I presume he will be loaned out for a season or 2. This is huge money for us though!

Up until 8pm on deadline day I was happy with our dealings. All the players who left (including all time top scorer Ward-Cochrane) were no longer required as we had other players coming through or they simply havent developed at all in the years they have been here. That all changed when Wolves came in for Lavdarias with a 1.2m offer which the board accepted however I was able to protest it and renegotiate. 1.8m plus 40% of next transfers and a friendly was too good to turn down and we lose our best player.

A lot of first team fringe players going on loan as well as a couple of youth players to aid development.

We managed to get to the last day of the January transfer window before the Chairman accepted a bid for our best defender. Will be a big loss!

End Of Season

A very good season for us for our first season in League 1. Some very good performances mixed in with a few big losses. But a year of consolidation will do me just fine!

League Table

Mid table and only 6pts of the playoffs!

FA Cup

Out at the first hurdle this time!

Carabao Cup

The reserves got through the first round but were very poor away at Bristol Rovers.

EFL Trophy

A cup I dont really care about so the reserves got a run about for 3 games!

Goalkeeper Watch

Gelacio (YP30A) scored 6 goals and got 1 assist in 45 (1) appearances. Okumura (YP32I) scored 1 goal in 7 games.

Player Review - Tobi Sheehan (YP33D)

One of our best players now. Had a very good season scoring 22 goals and getting 7 assists in 44 (1) appearances.

Player Of The Season - Elliot Whyte (YP30C)

Was in great form this season 19 goals and getting 9 assists from the AMC role in 38 (4) appearances.

Young Player Of The Season - Matt Roberts (YP33E)

Another who was in top form this season with 14 goal from 28 (11) appearances.

Our better facilities seem to be really helping now and we are showing a lot of great development now!

And another one goes. At least I was able to protest to renegotiate the deal and get us more money.

At least we got this!

End Of Season

A very solid first half of the season but we really struggled in the 2nd half which dropped us down the table!

League Table

At one stage we were as high as 4th but we struggled after Xmas and eventually finished 11th!

FA Cup

We got through 2 rounds we were expected to but Norwich are too good for us currently!

Carabao Cup

The reserves gave a good account of themselves here and were unlucky not to send it to extra time!

EFL Trophy

The reserves again played in this tournament and again didnt qualify for the knockout stages!

Goalkeeper Watch

Gelacio scored 4 goals in 39 games. Okumuru didnt get off the mark this season but did get 1 assist in 11 games and Onoja only played 1 game!

Player Review - Rod Gordon (YP32C)

Gordon is developing really well and we now have 2 very good holding playmakers in him and Wade. He scored twice in 16 (14) appearances.

Player Of The Season - Michael Adebiyi (YP34A)

I only just noticed that he is 6'8''.That probably explains why he is quite a threat from set pieces scoring 5 times and getting 2 assists and a very impressive 7.20 average rating.

Young Player Of The Season - Thomas Alhassan (YP33G)

A really good season from Alhassan who got 8 goals and 11 assists in 31 (3) appearances.

Huge Money

Well well a huge income for us as Lavdarias moves to one of Portugal's big 3. £11m for us does a lot for us. It enables us to push more for facility improvements and also helps us stave off interest in some of our bigger players as the board wont override me and accept offers!

A very solid winger now with that pace, dribbling and flair. Spent last season on loan at Celtic averaging an impressive 7.19! Full Greek international also with 2 goals from 6 games!

The above got me thinking about other clauses we still have live. The 3 big ones being Bunn (YP32D), Unsworth (YP31D) and Toms (YP30B). Lets have a look at them!

Hasnt really developed much since he left stuck in the u23 squad at Birmingham. Valued around roughly what we sold him for so not much to see here in terms of potential big money in. We can sell his clause for 126k currently.

This looks more promising. Toms played 15 times last season as Boro where promoted to the Premier League. Valued now at between 3.7-5.8m we have potential here! Cant sell the clause currently!

Wow was not expecting this. Hes turned into a very solid centre back who is now capped at u21 level. Spent last season on loan at Sunderland playing 27 times. Valued between 30-46m which is incredible. Cant sell the clause currently but potential money here!

Another One Gone

Again we held on to deadline day when the chairman came over my head. I was able to renegotiate and this is a pretty good deal but he will be a huge miss.

Rinse & Repeat

Every year on deadline day! Our best player is gone. Another decent deal for us but we dont need the money currently so it is incredibly frustrating!

End Of Season

We showed glimpses of this potential last year and this year it really took flight. A smaller first team with 5 or 6 out on loan but it stopped me doing a lot of rotation compared to previous seasons. We were scoring goals for fun including a frankly ridiculous 10-1 win over Bolton who at the time were sitting 1 place behind us.

League Table

Ipswich pushed us a lot of the way but we pulled clear and only required 1 win from our last 5 games to confirm the title which duly came! Championship here we come!

FA Cup

A decent run to the 4th round here was ended by Premier League Brighton in a very entertaining game!

Carabao Cup

The team was largely rotated for both rounds. We thumped Forest Green but West Ham are just far too much for our reserves!

EFL Trophy

For the first time (and hopefully only time) we made it out of the group stage with out reserves doing us proud. We won 1 knockout round against Oxford before eventually falling to Swindon!

Goalkeeper Watch

Gelacio scored 13 goals in 46 games whilst Onoja scored 4 in 12!

Player Review - Scott Gayle (YP34C)

He has been developing very well and being utilised mainly in our AMC role. He scored 11 goals and got 5 assists in 35 (4) appearances!

Player Of The Season - Tobi Sheehan (YP33D)

I think Sheehan will be the player we will struggle to keep this summer. Top goalscorer in the league and scoring an impressive 31 goals in all competitions as well as providing 17 assists show the quality he has!

Young Player Of The Season - John Stephenson (YP33B)

Another we may struggle to keep a hold off. He really took off this season and scored 10 goals and got 15 assists from the left wing position!

Those highlighted in blu were out on loan just so you can see their improvement! There will be an addition 3 or 4 players ready for first team football next season in the form of Chavez, Ozornwafor, Boylan and potentially Young!

This one I sold. Toms has stagnated a bit and I think we wouldnt have got anything above this.

A big one here. A huge move for Unsworth as he joins Spurs for a huge £46m. We get £9m of that due to an agreed clause for the profit of sale!

Surprise Clubs

Conscious that we are quite a few years in now so was flicking through the leagues to see if anyone has went up the leagues a fair bit!

Grimsby have went up from the National League all the way up to the Championship!

Woking have went up from National League to League 1.

Hadley who we played quite a bit on our rise up the league have went from Spartan South Midlands League all the way up to the National League, an impressive 4 promotions!

Outside of the above there hasnt been much movement really that includes abroad!

For the 4th year in a row on deadline day in January we lose a huge player. Adebiyi was comfortably our best defender. At 6''8' he was an absolute beast. Yes its big money for us but its money we dont really need now.

End Of Season

I was expecting this to be a big step-up but it wasnt. Our gelled team played fantastically well as well as developing together. The loss of Adebiyi only brought the group closer together. What a performance!

League Table

Well I think this is a season or 2 too early but somehow we have won the league. Our front 2 were frightening scoring 66 goals between them!

FA Cup

A tough draw and a rotated team knocked us out!

Carabao Cup

A great run got us to the quarter final where Spurs where our nemesis again!

Goalkeeper Watch

Gelacio scored 5 goals in 43 games whilst Onoja didnt get off the mark in 9!

Player Review - Carl Parker (YP35B)

Player Of The Season - Matt Roberts (YP33E)

Young Player Of The Season - Aidan Kearney (YP36A)

First Team Squad Review - Part 1

Gelacio is a very solid keeper and we have had many bids for him over the years. He has scored an impressive 64 goals for us thus far in his career!

Onoja I am trying to give as many minutes as possible to try and develop them. Still a lot of potential but a bit raw currently!

Full Backs

We have 5 full backs at the club. Currently our starting 2 are Ozornwafor at left back and Parker at right back. Parker is a big prospect for us and will be a starter for a number of years to come. Milton will be in his last season for the club. He has made over 400 appearances for the club and his our record appearance maker but this level is just a step too far for him. Brook is our backup left back and Ricardo our backup right back. Both are some way of PL standard but can continue to develop!
