bolulu
In all my time playing FM, the only players I get notified about being "eligible for a professional contract" they are all absolute dross; one star potential, max. usually half a star. How come I never ever get notified about a great youngster becoming eligible? Is it the same with you chaps?
K-oTiC
Available for a contract just means that they have reached an age where they can be offered a professional deal, and you didn't pre-sign one with them beforehand.
dSquib
Is your youth team manager assigned to handling contracts? If so great youngsters have may already been signed up for future contract, and the dross left with youth contracts until they come of age.

I find that my assistant automatically signs up the the better ones, and the not so good ones I'm notified they are eligible, so I cut them. At least it shows he isnt automatically signing up dross. bolulu
Oh! That's what is probably happening with me. I only get shown the dross the Youth chappie is not interested in. Would prefer to not see anyone that he doesn't consider good enough to sign, it's a complete waste of time.

Sometimes I notice that I have a player with one or two exceptional attributes that mean he is suitable for a very specialised role. For example, I once had a goalkeeper come through with 1 star PA, but something like 15-17 in reflexes when I was a struggling Serie B team. I thought that made him a great cheap third choice goalkeeper, so I kept him.
