FM10: Mazz's Guide to Africa

Mazz

Recommended Posts

I thought he moved to Vojvodina (correct spelling?),

Mazz,

Should I get Demba Ba, Chinedu Obasi, or Khouma Babacar,

Ive put in a bid for Obasi.

Apparently he does play for Vojvodina, just checked myself. I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said it  Just goes to show how you can't measure potential, seeing as just 3 years ago, World Soccer rated him as one of the "50 most exciting teenagers on the Planet" (Thanks Wikipedia).

From personal experience I'd go with Obasi too, as I've never had either of the other two. He'd probably cost the most out of the 3 though.

Time for another batch, and due to my lack of commitment recently I've decided to make this one a sort of "bumper edition" :p

1) Name: Ahmed Gaafar

Nationality: Egyptian

Position: Striker

Current Age: 25

Current Club: ES Sétif

Signed from: Zamalek

Signed for: £2.8m

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/eddd9869300486/

Opinion: Superb striker. Gaafar was signed before I arrived at Sétif and, due to the fact that my scouting so far has been focussed on Sub-Saharan Africa (and due to his his large transfer fee), I doubt I would’ve spotted/signed him if I’d been in charge at that time. I am extremely grateful to my predecessor for discovering him though, as he was one of the players that drove the team to my incredible record of 10 consecutive wins and 1 draw (out of 11 league matches that I was in charge of). To be honest, I’m quite surprised that he decided to leave Egypt’s second biggest team to come to Algeria in the first place, but what’s Zamalek’s loss is Sétif’s gain.

2) Name: Alexis Enam

Nationality: Cameroonian

Position: Central Defence

Current Age: 24

Current Club: ES Sétif

Signed from: Club Africain

Signed for: £900K

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/45722a69300604/

Opinion: Another player signed before my arrival, however I had already encountered him in my scouting of Tunisia. I therefore know that Enam is on the original SI database, and hasn’t been added by FuryG. I believe he is one of the best Cameroonians you are going to find still playing in Africa as, in my experience, the country is lacking quality players in the game (disregarding regens, because I don’t sign them). He’s slotted perfectly into my first team, and was another top performer in our run from 7th to 2nd.

3) Name: Lammouri Djediat

Nationality: Algerian

Position: Attacking Midfield (Centre)

Current Age: 30

Current Club: ES Sétif

Signed from: N/A

Signed for: N/A

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/ad117569300396/

Opinion: A Sétif original, Lammouri is one of my key players. Experienced, consistent, but also technically gifted, Djediat is clearly one of the best Algerians left in the country. He will be a fixture in my team for a while yet, and hopefully he’ll decide to continue in football after retirement in some sort of role at the club.

4) Name: Salieu Yaffa

Nationality: Gambian

Position: Central Defence

Current Age: 20

Current Club: Hearts of Oak

Signed from: Starlight/Gunners FC (Gambia)

Signed for: Free

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/c6135969300741/

Opinion: I have really high hopes for Salieu, as I believe he has great potential, and I’m having to resist my urge to sign him to Le Havre, because I think he will continue to improve in Ghana. He’s been the subject of many bids, mainly from Brazil (), but there’s no way I’m letting him go. A rock at the back and a superb addition, without spending a penny.

5) Name: Philemon McCarthy

Nationality: Ghanaian

Position: Goalkeeper

Current Age: 27

Current Club: Hearts of Oak

Signed from: N/A

Signed for: N/A

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/b4732c69300686/

Opinion: Based on just his stats, McCarthy might not look too impressive, and I’d probably agree with you. He looks more solid than spectacular, and this is exactly what he is. Philemon is one of those players that perhaps you don’t notice during the game, but without them in your side you realise how important they are to your team. With good goalkeepers being thin on the ground in Africa anyway, having McCarthy between the posts makes the difference. In real life Ghana’s third choice goalkeeper in the recent African Cup of Nations, he may not have played any games but it just shows you that there is a lack of quality Ghanaian keepers around, and we’re lucky to have him.

6) Name: Mohammed Haruna

Nationality: Ghanaian

Position: Attacking Midfield (Centre)

Current Age: 23

Current Club: Hearts of Oak

Signed from: N/A

Signed for: N/A

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/7624d369300644/

Opinion: Originally out on loan at the time of my arrival in Ghana, it wasn’t until the start of this season that I knew anything about Haruna. At first, I wasn’t impressed and was considering putting him on the transfer list. Thankfully I didn’t, as now I see him as one of the brightest prospects at the club, especially after the recent sale of Charles Taylor (see last post) to Reggina :(.

7) Name: Simon Tshimpangila

Nationality: Ugandan

Position: Right-Back

Current Age: 20

Current Club: Havre AC

Signed from: Kabasha (DR Congo)

Signed for: £275K

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/6f040e69300455/

Opinion: Very promising right-back, and subject to a recent bid from Lyon. I’m not too keen on him being my first choice right back at the moment however, I’m not quite sure why, I just think he sometimes lets people get passed him too easily. Other than that though, a very solid player and, seeing as he’s only 20 years old, we can forgive him for not yet being the complete package. Definitely one of Uganda’s brightest prospects.

8) Name: Moussa Bamba

Nationality: Ivorian

Position: Striker

Current Age: 20

Current Club: Havre AC

Signed from: Jeunesse Abidjan

Signed for: 75K

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/34837c69300508/

Opinion: I singed Bamba in the very first transfer window, so he’s been with me since the start of my African sojourn, and I hold him in high regard. I started to bring him into the first team towards the end of the first season (in Ligue 2) and he repaid me by netting important goals in a handful of games. Since our promotion to Ligue 1, he’s gone down in the pecking order somewhat, but I see him as leading the line in a few years. Therefore, I am currently negotiating a loan deal to fellow Ligue 1-ers Lorient, which will hopefully give him vital experience in the top division.

9) Name: Ass N’Doye

Nationality: Senegalese

Position: Attacking Midfield (Centre)

Current Age: 22

Current Club: Havre AC

Signed from: AS Douanes

Signed for: £100K

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/5f0fbc69300377/

Opinion: Another of my original signings, and another who aided our promotion to Ligue 1. Currently deputising for Alexandre Bonnet, and former captain of the Senegal Under-21 side. He has the ability to be a top player, he just needs time.

10) Name: Koffi Stevens Foba

Nationality: Ivorian

Position: Striker

Current Age: 21

Current Club: ASEC

Signed from: N/A

Signed for: N/A

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/b938f869300541/

Opinion: Yes, I am now also in charge of ASEC! Unfortunately, the previous manager insisted on selling all of the best players, and replacing them with mediocre foreigners. Luckily, he kept Foba and he’s been on fire recently. His stats speak for themselves in my opinion.

11) Name: Tiézan Koné

Nationality: Ivorian

Position: Striker

Current Age: 22

Current Club: ASEC

Signed from: NA Hussein-Dey

Signed for: £240k

Screenshot: http://www.imagebam.com/image/2cff8e69300422/

Opinion: One of the promising players that my predecessor decided was only worth a meagre £65K when he sold him. In order to register my team in the second half of the season, I needed at least 5 players trained at the club, and I only had 4. I therefore had to tempt somebody back to Sol Beni, and Koné looks like the best player to have chosen, especially judging by his return of 2 goals on his “debut”.

Nice to see that this thread still gets views, I thought it had been forgotten about.

There are soo many names there can anyone tell me the top 5?

I don't really think that's possible to be honest mate. This is mostly because I, and the other people who have listed players here, are using FuryG's African Db which adds thousands of players. Therefore it is more than likely that a lot of these will have either a random CA/PA or random stats, so the players that I name here might not turn out exactly the same in your game or vice versa, making it very hard to do a top 5. I could only do you a top 5 of the players in my game, but couldn't guarentee that they'd definitely be worth buying in yours.

could some 1 do a shortlist and upload it please

I'm not really too sure on how to do that, plus I have exams next week so wouldn't be overly keen on doing it myself. Maybe if someone like Polska feels like it?

Are there any teams similar to ASEC Mimosas in the sense that they have good youth players, in Africa?

Apart from ASEC I myself would look towards Ghana, as it produces very good youngsters. I'd look particularly at AshantiGold, Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

Maybe also clubs such as Centre Salif Keita (Mali), AS Douanes and ASC Diaraf (both Senegal) too.

Edit: Just remembered the Kadji sports Academy in Cameroon. Famous for producing players such as Samuel Eto'o, Carlos Kameni, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Stephane Mbia etc. Don't know if it's already in game, but it's definitely included in O'Leary's Trainee's Cameroon Update.
