History

group of 22 young individuals gathered on certain days of the week and did bodily exercises in the Serencebey neighborhood of Beşiktaş in the fall of 1902 in the garden of the mansion of Osman Paşa, who was then the Medine Guard. The sports branches that these youths, who included the sons of Osman Pasha, Mehmet Şamil and Hüseyin Bereket and the youths of the neighborhood, Ahmet Fetgeri, Mehmet Ali Fetgeri, Nazımnazif, Cemil Feti and Şevket, were horizontal bar, parallel bar, wrestling, weight lifting and gymnastics. When the men of Abdülhamit the Second, who had secret agents go around fearing any gathering activities because of political actions, heard about this; the exercising youths were taken to the police station after a raid. The tense situation was relaxed as some of these youths were close to palace officers and as they did not play soccer, which was in disfavor in those days, and as it was realized that they only did bodily exercises. In fact, Şeyhzade Abdülhalim, who had relations with the Palace, supported these youths and started to watch the practices frequently. Famous boxer and Wrestler Kenan Bey came to the practices and started to show wrestling and boxing tricks.

Bereket Gymnastic Club was founded under a special permission in 1903. The sporting activities gained some more freedom with the declaration of Constitutional Monarchy in 1908. After the political events of March 31, 1909, Fuat Balkan and Mazhar Kazancı, who were in Edirne, came to Istanbul with the Movement Army. After the political events settled down, Fuat Balkan, who was a good fencing coach and Mazhar Kazancı, who was a good wrestler and weight lifter, found the youths involved in gymnastics in Serencebey and got them to agree to doing sports together. Fuat Balkan made the space under his home in Ihlamur the Club’s headquarters and the title of Bereket Gymnastics Club was changed to Beşiktaş Ottoman Gymnastics Club. Thus, a strong sports club; where gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, fencing and athletics were emphasized, was formed. Refik and Şerafettin Beys, friends of Fuat Bey, were too good fencers.

In the meantime, Beşiktaş Ottoman Gymnastics Club became the first registered Turkish sports club on January 13, 1910 with the encouragement of Beyoğlu Governor Muhittin Bey. The interest among the youths of the neighborhood in the sports club grew and the number of members involved in sports suddenly went up to 150. The headquarters of the club was moved from Ihlamur to the building no. 49 in Akaretler. When this building was too small after a while; the building no. 84, again in Akaretler, became headquarters. The yard behind this building was turned into a sports pitch.

BEŞİKTAŞ’S COLORS

Since individual sports were done at the beginning in the Osman Pasha Mansion, there was no need for any colors for a uniform. However, as the number of sportsmen increased with new youths who joined each passing day; Mehmet Şamil Bey, who had graduated from the French school gathered the Founders Committee. He removed the pin he used in his school days bearing the colors of his school from his lapel and showed it around. He said “We must have a pin just like this one made and we must force all members who attend sports in our Club to bear this pin”. Those attending the meeting eagerly agreed to Mehmet Şamil Bey’s proposal. At the end of the meeting, the colors of the Club to be shown on the pin were decided. The two principal colors of nature in full contrast to each other were chosen as the Club colors: Black and White…

BEŞİKTAŞ’S FIRST PIN

The date Beşiktaş’s first pin was made was written as “1906” in Latin years inspired by the pins in the French school. On top, it said “Beşiktaş” in Arabic letters, the letter “J” was placed on the rights and letter “K” was placed on the left. At the back of the pin, there is a script saying it was made in “Konstantinopolis” and there is the seal of the craftsmen who made the pin on the inside. It is interesting that the star on the crest on the pin has 6 points. This 6-pointed star was used until the 2nd Constitutional Monarchy (1908). This pin was donated by Iskender Yakak to our Honorary President Süleyman Seba.

BEŞİKTAŞ AND SOCCER

Although soccer was overshadowed by others in the first period when the Club accelerated its activities, the athletes and the gymnasts in the Club felt more interest in soccer and started to have games between themselves, starting from late 1910s. In those years, the interest of the youth was about to shift to soccer and two powerful soccer teams like Valideçeşme and Basiret were founded not too far away from Beşiktaş Club. In August 1911, Ahmet Şerafettin Bey (Şeref Bey), the president and founder of Valideçeşme Soccer Team joined Beşiktaş Club with his players. As a result of the attempts by Şeref Bey, who strived to bring together the soccer teams founded by youths from Beşiktaş under a single roof, Basiret Club joined Beşiktaş as well. Thus, the Soccer Branch started to operate officially as part of the Club.

THE LEGEND OF BLACK EAGLES

Beşiktaş, the title holder the last two seasons started the 1940-41 season with a young and renewed team. Beşiktaş, which opened up its lead as weeks went by, was the leader in the league. Five weeks remaining to the end, the opponent was Süleymaniye. Beşiktaş had started the game in Şeref Stadium refereed by Semih Turansoy on Sunday January 19, 1941 with the following players: Faruk, Yavuz, İbrahim, Rıfat, Halil, Hüseyin, Şakir, Hakkı, Şükrü, Şeref, Eşref. As in all games of that season, our team played magnificently. Half way through the second half of the game, Beşiktaş attacked endlessly although it is way in front. Just then, a voice was heard from Şeref Stadı stands towards which Beşiktaş was attacking where there was an Atatürk panel. “Come on Black Eagles. Attack Black Eagles. Thousands of fans and journalists following the game that filled Şeref Stadium were frozen by the echoing sound. What was done was an extremely correct observation. It was not possible to describe the Beşiktaş players who crushed over their opponents that season as nothing other than “Black Eagles” and the soccer they played as nothing other than “Attacking like Black Eagles”. The owner of the voice coming from the stands was a fisherman called Mehmet Galin.

Beşiktaş closed the game with a 6-0 lead with 3 magnificent goals volleyed in by Şeref Görkey, who was known as volleyer Şeref and one goal each by Captain Hakkı, Şakir and Şükrü.

After this game, Beşiktaş’s symbol has become “Black Eagles”.

What is Carsi (Çarşı) ?

Carsi is Besiktas’s independent supporter group which was established in 1982. Carsi are Besiktas fanatics. Not only the football team, but they support any sport or recreation where the Besiktas emblem is represented. Carsı’s love for the emblem and black & white colours of the club is unexplainable. They are proud of the team representing the working class/public(Publics Team) as many of the groups members come from a working class backround.

Carsi are a rebellious and independant group originally formed to prevent the expansion of rival team support in the suburb of Besiktas.

The commonly used phrase ‘Casiı is against everything’ is a term which hard to understand by others. What makes is more complicated is another commonly used phrase which is ‘Carsi' against itself’. These phrases are used to bring forward the fact that Carsi is a group which speaks out and against things thats it dislikes and if any mistakes are made, it can also be against itself.

Over the years Carsi has become a soul for Beşiktaş. Carsi’s great support for Besiktas starts at Istanbul Inonu Stadium and spreads all across the country. Passion for the team is as it has never been seen before!

Why Carsi is different

As Beşiktas is the first club in Turkey, Carsi is one of the oldest established groups in Turkey, celebrating its 25th year in 2007. Growing attention and intrest towards Carsi throughout the country is due to the groups passion and creativity. Çarşı is known as being a fired up and very creative group. This is evident through the new banners and chants the group constantly produces. Carsi is one of the few groups in Turkey who are constantly in a fight against the industrlialisation of football, which is another reason why they are always under the spot light.

Carsi, also has a socially responsible group. This is proved through banners such as: ‘CARSI AGAINST NUCLEER’- ‘CARSI AGAINST GLOBAL WARMING’-… The group is also against racism, wars and immoral acts proven through banners like: ‘ÇARŞI AGAINST RACISM’- ‘WE ARE ALL BLACK (After Eto'o event)’-CARSI AGAINST WAR etc...

Support

After many European games it is evident that european players and supporters couldnt get over the fact of what great supporters Besiktas has! The chants begin in the home terrace of Carsi (Kapali) and reach the extent to where players knees weaken. Carsi also holds the world sound record of 132 decibels recorded by EUROSPORT. 90 minutes non-stop chanting is proof of the passion the group feels towards the club.

Carsi’s Love For Besiktas

‘Without Besiktas there would be no Carsi’- ‘Everything is for Besiktas’, are the common phrases used by Carsi leaders. The group has accepted Besiktas equaling life and that life is equal to Besiktas (Besiktas = Life). Banners refering to Carsi’s love of the club are also very popular and identifiable banners at stadiums.

Where is Carsi?

Before matches, Carsi members meet up in locations throughout Besiktas. The most famous pre-match drinks location however is the ‘Kazan Bar’. After a few drinks and chants, the group march through the suburb and enter the legendary ‘Kapali terrace’. Carsi also travells to all away games.

Nower days Besiktas Fans gather under the name CARSI. It is as though an umbrella for Besiktas fans thorugh the world. It quıte common to come across representatıves such as Carsi Ankara, Carsi İzmir, Carsi Berlin etc...

As Turkis leauge you can have 8 foreign players in the squad but only 6 of them can be in main squad. That doesnt mean you cant have any other, you can still add forein players but cant play with them in the leaugue.

For the first season goalkeeper is enough for you as Rustu has a 170 potential but after second season you can have a new goalkeeper.

You should have a new add for left of defence because the players there really week. For the centre of the defence its good enoug though there are new adds as Zapatochny and Sivok. Moreover Toraman and Zan are tough players. Right of defence Serdar Kurtulus is a promising youngstar you can use him there.

For the midfield you can use Sivok and Cisse as defensive mildfielder but a better player can be transfered to this position.

Matias Delgado is pretty creative and flairy player that can organize your mildfield and feed the forward well and Rodrigo Tello good at freekicks, shoots and corner kicks. Serdar Ozkan is fairly pacey player dribble is good.

Forward area is the strongest area of the team as you have skillfull Bobo, strong Nobre and pacey Holosko here. Moreover Batuhan is the promising striker at Turkey who is really tall and strong for his age and ambitious.

Formations

Formations depends on what tactic you want to play but at FM 2008 the well known tactics,

such as Kimz, were working excellent with the team. Nowadays i prefer 4-4-2 with FM2009.

The weakest part of the team are the staffs you have, you need to send them all and get new ones.

It's a good thread, but there is a mistake in the information part. BJK is not only club that is allowed to have a Turkish flag in their amblem. If you check the amblems for Karsiyaka SK, Bursaspor SK, Elazigspor SK, Istanbulspor SK and Kasimpasa SK you will see that they have Turkish flags in their amblems, too. Thnx fgu, and i fixed the problem but the thing is, at the time they didnt allow teams to have flag in emblem so they let besiktas to use it, other teams got in the emblem without an allow.

ny new transfers for 1.1.2009

Hey there, I just started up a Besiktas save so I'll try to keep this thread alive. After looking at the Gabriel Torje thread I decided I would buy him, since I've always wanted to, but never been at a club where he could start a lot. I also grabbed Razvan Ochiosii and that just about concluded my first window transfers. I'm 6-1-0 right now and Torje and Holosko are a huge part of that, so I'm very pleased with them. Not much else to note right now, but I'll be posting as much as I can. Oh yeah I've only allowed 3 goals too, so the defense has been extremely solid.

I have also just started as Besiktas.

Any transfer rules + budget info ?

I wanted to discuss Besiktas here.

I`ve started a career to see how far they can go in Europe.

In Turkey a team can have at most 8 foreign players at most 6 of whom can play in Turkey`s competitions. Besiktas already have 8 foreign players.

I think the main formation without transfers for the team should be 3412 since there are 4 good DCs, maybe sometimes with wing backs. Team needs 1 more MC as they lack in number for this formation.

Since good enough Turkish players are hard to transfer one should get rid of foreigners to strengthen the squad. All of them can make enough money with some negotiation to transfer better players but they need to find wanting clubs. Adaptation time make me think on how many players can be changed in first 11.

Club has about $5m transfer budget and 100K wage budget.

Ramires, Jeremy Mathieu, Magrao, Richarlyson are interested in joining the club and I think I`ll buy 2 of them after sending Eduard Cisse and Tello out. Delgado and Bobo are other players that can find a club with an offering but Delgado has a 100% sell on clause and I couldn`t find a quality player as good as Bobo in the air.

Maybe I buy 3 of them, send Bobo and play with Nobre but it still needs one more forward. Tomas Zapotocny, Tomas Sivok, Anthony Seric and Filip Holosko can`t find a club with an offering.

Holosko to go round the keeper because he`s good at dribbling, agility, acceleration, pace and balance but not so good at finishing

Bobo to try to beat the offside trap because his positioning sucks
