Do you think Vidic would be as good as he is on Football Manager if United hadn't signed him?

Potential wise, seeing as United made him into the player he is if you get me

anyway it was SAF that saw the potential in him and signed him. he repay SAF faith by putting some solid performance beside Rio Ferdinand thus making him one of the best DC in the world now. how often we saw players with huge potential but fail to impress after signing on for a big club, it still depend very much on individual.

It's hard to gauge how good a player is until they are playing against the best every week. A weaker league doesn't necessarily allow this.

Vidic is probably fergies best EVER defensive signing and on of his best signings overall. He is absolutely immense!

You could ask this about any number of players at top clubs. It's wholly irrelevant, though.

Incidentally, Vidic is up there with Bruce and Irwin, for me. Evra too.

If you're going on purely value for money, then Irwin and Bruce can't be beaten.

For impact, Vidic and Evra are comparable with any of Fergie's best signings, apart from Keane and Cantona who are in a class of their own.

I didn't realise value for money was a consideration, but if it is, fair enough. Having said that, it's not like we overpaid for Vidic and Evra (they're about the only players we haven't overpaid for lately) and times are different now. The only players you'll ever get for what we paid for Bruce and Irwin are 16 year-olds with a bit of potential.

Except Vidic can play in europe as well, Cantona was never good on the european stage.

I rate him IRL but not in FM. I go for pace throughout my side, especially in defence so I can play a high D-line. The likes of Vidic and Terry are too slow to work in my system, whereas technically less-gifted but pacier DCs work a treat.
