carrick777
As above, are they one and the same? Which organisation hands out either award?
Lung
They're not the same. I don't think FM uses the real names of the awards in the game due to licensing. I THINK Player of the Year is probably the FIFA award and the Footballer of the Year is the Ballon d'Or. Not quite sure because I don't have the game open atm. craigy18181
not sure what you mean. Do you mean the Players Player of the year and the Football Writers Player of the year? One voted by the press and the other by their fellow professionals? At least that's how it works in scotland
carrick777
i understand the licensing issue. These 2 awards in-game are known as World Player of the Year and World Footballer of the Year. I looked at the winners of FIFA World Player of the Year irl and found that it refers to the in-game World Footballer of the Year. But i'm clueless abt the World Player of the Year award. Lung
FIFA has 2 World ____ of the Year awards. One is FIFPRO Player of the Year(I think players from every FIFA confederation vote on this one) and the regular one is voted on by national team managers and captains. If it helps, these are the last few winners of the FIFPRO WPOTY award... 2004-2005 Ronaldinho FC Barcelona 2005-2006 Ronaldinho FC Barcelona 2006-2007 Kaka AC Milan 2007-2008 Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United
Micado
As far as I know it is that the Fifa self ahs a award (all national team coaches can vote for players on a shortlist made by the fifa) and one award is from the French soccer/football magazine, which I believe is the Ballon d'Or (here the international press who are assiciated with the French magazine have a vote). I assume that in the game they are not mentioned by the official names because of license.
carrick777
Alright, I copied this from within the game. World Footballer of the Year 2007: Kaka 2006: F. Cannavaro 2005: Ronaldinho 2004: Ronaldinho 2003: Zidane 2002: Ronaldo 2001: Luis Figo 2000: Zidane 1999: Rivaldo 1998: Zidane World Player of the Year 2007: Kaka 2006: F. Cannavaro 2005: Ronaldinho 2004: Ronaldinho 2003: NEDVED 2002: Ronaldo 2001: MICHAEL OWEN 2000: FIGO 1999: Rivaldo 1998: Zidane European Football of the Year 2007: Kaka 2006: F. Cannavaro 2005: Ronaldinho 2004: SHEVCHENKO 2003: NEDVED 2002: Ronaldo 2001: MICHAEL OWEN 2000: FIGO 1999: Rivaldo 1998: Zidane One word to sum up: Confusing. glamdring
Why is it confusing? They are 3 different awards so obviously different players can win each. Equally obviously if a player wins one then he has obviously had an exceptional year so it is not at all unlikely for him to sweep the board and win the others too. carrick777
Confusing because I have only found real evidence of there being a FIFA World Player of the Year award, and not a FIFA Footballer of the Year award.
108
Looking at the past winners its not that confusing. World Footballer of the Year = FIFA World Player of the year World Player of the Year = Ballon D'or European Footballer of the Year = European Footballer of the Year Simple. Ainu
Looking at the past winners its not that confusing.World Footballer of the Year = FIFA World Player of the year World Player of the Year = Ballon D'or European Footballer of the Year = European Footballer of the Year Simple. Incorrect, European Footballer of the Year in the game is clearly the real life Ballon d'Or, as it's the only trophy Ronaldinho hasn't won twice. The real life Ballon d'Or is also alternatively named "European Footballer of the Year", so it's obvious.
TeeWee
Compared to the list of winners on Wiki about various awards. World footballer of the year == FIFA World player of the year World player of the year == World Soccer Magazine World Player of the year European Footballer of the year == Ballon d'Or HTH!
