ArcticMonkey
I currently have 1gb(2x512) of ram on my laptop. I have done a scan on crucial.com and have ordered a 1gb stick and a 2gb stick which will give me a total of 3gb ram. I did not get 2x2gb because i am only on a 32 bit processor which would not recognize this ram. So my question is, is it ok to mix 2 different speeds (2gb+1gb) in my 2 memory stick slots? Thanks in advance.
davidnio_42
It is, although every source I have looked at says it is better to get matching pairs of modules- I need more RAM as well!
Wee Aja
It is, although every source I have looked at says it is better to get matching pairs of modules- I need more RAM as well! I think we all need more RAM! As for the OP - yeah it would be beneficial to have matching pairs.
Mojby
I have a desktop with a 2gb and a 1gb and I have no problems
ArcticMonkey
So you guys think it will be better to have 2x1gb rather than 2gb+1gb even though the latter equals more ram?
Carl87
So you guys think it will be better to have 2x1gb rather than 2gb+1gb even though the latter equals more ram? It won't matter, go for 2GB + 1GB. The more the merrier.
ArcticMonkey
Thanks mate, do you actually know your stuff or was that just a guess?
Carl87
Thanks mate, do you actually know your stuff or was that just a guess? Well I know a little about computer hardware. 3GB would be a good amount, I have 3GB and I have endless amounts of programs running and still everything runs fine. Note: That's with Vista, too. Mojby
There is some info going around that 32 bit systems do not recognise 4gb of Ram. it will only recognise 3gb so it would be a waste of money to get 4gb anyway - that is my understanding anyway!
