players get so tired

What pre-season schedule did you use? Did you have a heavy stamina training period. If 2009 is anything like recent versions then you need to include specific training in pre-season in order to build up players fitness for the following season. If you didn't then players will struggle for fitness until they have played a few games.

How many friendlies did you play? Five or six is a good number to build up some pre-season fitness.
